I was opening files and autocad was telling me that some xrefs were missing from the drawing, did I want to locate the xrefs or ignore (I hit ignore and accidentally checked the always do this to these types of files). Now, when I load a drawing I can not get the building to load into the drawings.
How to turn the locate feature back on for xrefs?
I regularly recieve files from Architects and of course they have several xrefs. I have all of particular files that are referenced, however i cannot open the main file and have them load in 2013. I also cannot click reload or even detach and then reattach them. Nothing happens. However if i open the file in 2012 it opens just fine then i can bind everything into one. is there a setting i need to change?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently run into a problem that involves xrefs. Basically, I cannot open files that are being xrefed in other drawings when those drawings are currently open. AutoCAD Architecture will only allow me to open the xrefed file as a read-only version. For example:
I have 1ST FLOOR PLAN (drawing file) xrefed into A-201.00 FIRST FLOOR PLAN (sheet file). If one of my team members has the sheet file open with the drawing file loaded, then AutoCAD will only let me open the drawing file as a read-only file. But if my team member has the sheet file open with the drawing file unloaded, then I can open the drawing file without any problems.
I have never had this type of problem with xrefs before and so I'm wondering if it's an AutoCAD Architecture 2012 bug.
I have an issue with opening my old drawing files (.dwg). I usually make a backup copy of all the drawings I have done and save them according to the project numbers. The drawings I have difficulty opening were done ages ago and backed up on a CD.
When I was trying to open the drawings from the CD, I received error messages saying "cannot find the specified drawing file. Please verify that the file exists". I also noticed that all of those drawing files are of size between 30Mb and 35Mb. So clearly, there is some data in them.
I also tried to do copy and paste from the CD to my local machine but to no avail. It said the file may be corrupted or something. I do not know if this is to do with losing path or what.

Is there any way to reset plot files in publish without opening each drawing indvidually and resetting the plot file?
I'm having an issue with my 2013LT. Everytime I open a new drawing I get a dialog box that says "One or more SHX files are missing. What do you want to do?" The options they give me are "Specify a replacement for each SHX file" or "Ignore and continue".

I put a check mark in the "always perform current choice" item and select the "Specify a replacement for each shx file". I assume this replaces the missing shx file with the default shx file. But if I send the drawing to someone else they get the same message. Did the shx file not get replaced or do I need to do something further?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with adding xrefs to drawings. The way I have this setup is the user inputs information and the number of sheets. This then sets up a sheet set with the information and then for each value for the number of sheets the user gets a dialog askign for a number, name, and description for that sheet.
so if the user puts in 5 as the number of sheets, the user gets that dialog 5 times.
also I have a dialog that asks the user if they are adding xrefs to the sheets, if they answer yes then it adds the xrefs to each sheet that is created (this is where I have an issue).
This works perfect for the first sheet that is added, how ever after you fill in the information and submit for the second sheet autocad gives a fatal exception error and closes. not sure if I am missing on turning something off, closing, or stoping something before the next sheet is created.

If it makes a difference, I did move the Host Job Folder into an Archive. So normally my XRef links are broken but still they show up in my Xref Manager and not in the Drawing until I re-path to the new location. This is because I didn't use Relative Paths, which I am starting to use now.
I have a blank drawing. I XREF another drawing, it looks good, everything makes sense... Then as soon as I save my drawing, the XREF disappears, and is no longer listed in the XREF manager!

I´ve been using eTransmit command in previous versions, now that I´ve switched to v2012 there´s no longer support to save all dwg xrefs as dwg references in the eTransmit popup window. My dwg xrefs are instead attached as blocks.
I need to change colour to a drawing with several viewports and xrefs. I suggested to my co-worker that I could fix this via plot manager, but he insists that I change all colours in the xref to one and the same, so everyone can plot it black and white and so we don't have to set up new plot styles on every computer. (we've got the drawing file from another company btw).
I've had a look and it seems like I have to do refedit to be able to edit any parts of the xref. Most of the drawing has got the same colour already, but it just say "by layer"... how do I find out what colour it is?
when i copy paste another persons drawing into mine,all the xrefs get placed well away from the the original drawing.

I have got as far as using the following diesel expression.
Xref's in this file are indicated as - Xref name [Filepath]

This gives me more or less what I want but I dont want to show the file path. What changes to the expression I need to do to achieve this.
i have a large number of drawings that need xrefs detached and re-attached with the latest model xrefs, any way to do them in bulk rather than opening each individual drawing? the problem started a while back, when opening drawings, ACAD is not loading the latest 'saved' model when opening drawings...

All files are saved to the dropbox which is loaded on both computers that need to access the files. If I do work and save an xref in a file that is then opened by someone else on a different computer, the xref is not loaded and has to be re-routed. Is there a way to avoid having to reroute xrefs everytime someone different opens the file?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Autocad 2013. My problem is when i use "recover files & xrefs", all the files recovered are saved as a 2013 dwg version. As we all save our files here as 2007 version so when others opened the files they are getting some of the xref files missing in the drawing.
Is there any option to save files in a lower version when i recover?
I often work on drawings which have multiple xrefs, each having up to 100 Layers or more, so the layer manager can be a bit difficult to trawl through to find a local layer to select.
I know how to create a local layer filter using the code ~*|* from the new filter area in layer manager.
Ideally all I want to have to type in is: LOCAL and then the local layer filter would be created, with the filter name being Local-Layers (or similar).
Our office recently moved all of our project files to the dropbox. Now when I open files with xrefs I have to attach them back into the file. However, this doesn't happen for my coworker. She can see all the xrefs. How could I solve this? The file names or directory has not changed.

Now today any drawing that opens shows the plan view as last saved but then after loading takes the drawing and shifts it into a 3d view similar to a crossection. Is there a setting somewhere that has been changed? I noticed after a windows 7 update was preformed.

When I open the drawing B everything I have in drawing A disappeared. I refer to all elements of design (blocks, lines, polylines, etc.).
After studying the issue have concluded that the design of all elements were automatically isolated. Right click> Isolate> End Object Isolation and everything reappears in drawing A.
I mention that I installed Autocad Map 3D 2012 x64 on Windows 7 x64 and work in Map Classic Workspace using the same coordinate system in both drawings.
When I open an drawing, AutoCAD opens *two* drawings, the one I wanted *plus* a new one (called drawing 1.)Why does this happen and can it be prevented?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to import dwg with xrefs I see only the dwg without it´s xrefs. I tried the "import" function because the same thing doesn´t work with "manage links" function. I created a very imple drawing to resolve it. A dwg with a simple box in it and a linked xref, with a sphere. In the import file dialog I check the xref option. Both files are in the same directory, I tried it with local and network paths. When I move the xref to another folder (so that AutoCAD can´t find it) in MAX doesn´t come up the "Resolve External Reference Dialog".

Document Manager.Open(filepath); What is happening is soon as it gets to that line of code AutoCAD either crashes or it has a StackOverflowException.
I've stepped through and before I go to open the file I have double check it is there. Also after AutoCAD crashes if I go to where I wrote the file to and open it that way I can open it by double clicking it.
I had a client send in an ad in pdf format. When you look at the preview on the screen all the images are there, however when you open it in photoshop one the words disappears when I try to open it in CMYK mode (that's how it was saved). However, when I open it in RGB mode all the words are there, then I can convert it to CMYK. I'm just trying to figure out why it didn't show up in CMYK but works in RGB mode.
