AutoCAD Architecture :: How Spanning Constructs Work
Oct 11, 2013
I am having troubles understanding how spanning constructs work. For example if I make the shell for a 6 levels building and the levels 1-5 are identical, I should make a constructs and check the levels 1-5 in the levels dialog for that construct.
The process of displaying that construct for all the selected levels shoud be automatic or I have to manually copy the construct from level 1-5?
I am asking because in my case is not done automatic, (I might be missing something) and if I copy manually is no difference if I check the levels or not in the levels dialog for the construct.
I just started aca12 today and i have a substantial query:
i've set up my project and levels. i have -1, 0, +1 levels with certain thickness each. i've noticed that the levels are separate dwg files. and each of them has 0.00 elevation for walls and elements that i put in.
a. now, i'd like to know how to put all the levels together, say, in 1 single display, so that i can make 3d view of the whole building? b. btw the level names can be different from constructs' names, am i right? c. why when i choose ,,copy constructs to levels'' nothing happens on those levels. i don't see any new elements there? instead of them i get 3 copies of the same level, like ground floor (1) ground floor(2) etc.
Any way to transfer a same Lman in a Constructs floor plan dwg to a floor plan view?
My work place produces construction drawing only, no 3D, and we would like to start using constructs, view, sheet system for dwg. orginzing only. We mostly work on big commercial projects.
In Constructs, we have our main plan which includes partition plan, RCP, furniture plan, finishes plan, with annotation, and we manage all this plan through LMAN.
When I create views, I will open my main plan and open lman to set it on partition plan (for example), and save dwg. From here, I create my partition plan view, and a very clean partition plan view created very nice. And I will do the same to create views for RCP, furniture plan , etc.
The one problem is, when will views already created, we sometimes need to go back to the main dwg. and add new layers and informations. LMAN we set up nicely and I work very well on the main plan after we add new layers in certain LMAN control plans but the same LMAN system doesn't transfer to views. I will need to open every plan view and layoff the new layer that just created. I am wondering is the view will updated the same LMAN that we set up for our main plan, so we save time to check our view is showing the right information?
Having problems with the spanning pipe labels in profile. Sometimes it works fine and others not at all. It will let me pick the two structures at each end and highlights the pipes, but then it will not let me pick the pipe to place the label on.
I was looking at placing pipe information into a Profile Band. I see that I can include the following properties in a pipe label in the profile band:
<[Total Slope Across Span(FP|P2|RN|AP|GC|UN|Sn|OF)]> <[Number of Pipes in Span(GC|UN|Sn)]> <[Drop Across Span(Um|P2|RN|AP|GC|UN|Sn|OF)]>
Only problem is they don't actually give me the information of a spanning pipe, only a single pipe. I see no way of choosing which pipes will be spanned. Am i missing something in the creation of the profile band that allows me to choose the spanning pipes or is this broken?
I notice issues using spanning pipe labels for the first time recently after having used them for years. The slope calculated by the spanning pipe label is completely wrong. I've attached a picture in which Labeled two pipes connected by a null structure. The two labels on the bottom are the pipes labeled individually at 3.53% and 3.34%. When labeling them as a spanning pipe, if I choose the downstream pipe first and them the upstream pipe it shows me a slope of 0.48%. If I choose the upstream pipe first, then it gives me 2.88%. Either way it's wrong.
As I was writing this I decided to check and see if the pipes were flowing the same direction (Start to End or End to Start). Turns out they weren't. After flipping one of the pipes around so that they both are laid out in the same direction (Start to End from Upstream to Downstream) the label now reads 3.37%, which is correct.
Seems like an the label should honor the flow direction of the pipe, no matter if they have been laid out in opposite directions or not.
Okay, I'm new to associative arrays, I'm attaching a drawing so you can see what I'm trying to accomplish with this. I'm doing an elevation view of a slab that has a cross section of the rebar. I've shown one of the bars spanning from left to right, represented by a rectangle, and the cross section of the bars running front to back represented by circles. You can see what I'm trying to show here. In the drawing I've attached, the top three sketches are examples of how this would look if it were working correctly.
What I'm trying to do is create an array (of circles) that will stretch to the length of the bar spanning left to right. I want the quantity of items in the array to automatically change based on the length of the bar and the spacing of items, so if there is 6" of spacing between the items instead of 12" it will automatically add twice the amount of items to fill in that space. I've been trying to use a path array, and it isn't working the way I want. I'm not familiar with rectangular arrays, so not sure what to do there either.
I am new user in autocad 2010 and i used softly this software but untill i could not get how to work in xref and what is the major benefit of this link
I have a new computer and the F1 thru F12 shortcut keys for ortho, snap, etc. do not work. Rather these ring up computer functions like speaker volumnet and screen brightness. I would like to find the button that returns the shortcut keys to ACAD mode.
I have made a map that I want to print over several pages, then I can tape the pages together. How do I get PS CS3 to do this? I can only see how to scale it to a single page, or it gets cropped. Otherwise I have to split the single image into multiple small one-page sections and print them?
I'm importing AVCHD files into my timeline in Premiere and have a files that's spanned over three MTS clips. Files originate from a Sony FS700 camera.
The files show correctly but all the material is tripled on the timeline. Files 00012.MTS, 00013.MTS, 00014.MTS are all shown on timeline repeating the same material (on camera this material is spanned throughout these files). All the material is there and all is ok, but it's just imported three times on the timeline.
I want to run one wall just a few inches past another. If I override the Cleanup Radius at the appropriate ends of the walls, setting the radii to a small number (1/2"), shouldn't that allow one wall to be run a couple inches past the other? The attached image shows the end of Wall 2 pulled as close to Wall 1 as I can get it. Both walls have the Cleanup Radius override at 1/2". If I nudge the end of Wall 2 down any further, it jumps down to form a corner with Wall 1.
I have AutoCAD Architecture 2010. When I launch the program it opens up without any problems. But, when I go to the menu and select "File" then "Open" to open up my CAD files nothing happens. My screen just hangs and the ribbon turns a faint white color. I can't open any of my CAD files from the program. In order to stop CAD from hanging and doing nothing, I press the ESC key and everything is back to normal. I am wondering why CAD will not let me open any of my files from the menu.
I have found that since installing the service pack for 2014, xclips in paper space have become blank, or, on occasion, 1 will show, but others won't. The invert still works, strangely enough.
After a few seconds in the program the menu with all the slides like insert, view, etc. somehow freezes. i can´t pick it anymore. the rest of the program is working,i can work on the work surface with the current tool, but choosing an ew one isn´t possible. i have this problem with different version 2011,12 and even 13....
For office standards sake, I've created commands in drop menus that allow every employee to use various ‘standard’ page setups: for our plotter, printer and .dwg to .pdf. It's done with a lisp routine that basically looks up a .dwg with all those page setups already created (-psetupin).
Also, I've created 2 custom .pc3 files. The first is called 'Plotter' and the second is called 'Printer'. I did this in order to simply the task of (not) modifying our customization in the event of a dying printer/plotter. These .pc3 files are on our network and every user has access to them via an office profile, with the appropriate Printer Support File Path. We all have the same printer/plotter drivers.
Problem:Everything works fine, except for 2 employees. The lisp routine loads properly, as I can see it go in the command line and the page setup actually loads as well, as its name is in the page setup drop down menu, in the Plot menu. However, the page setup isn't 'selectable'. Also, if we try to 'preview' the plot we get this message: The selected layout has an invalid media configuration.
Every option in the page setup in as wanted (printer/Plotter name, scale, plot area, plot offset, etc.), EXCEPT for the paper size (even though the paper size specified in the lisp routine is available in the paper size list).
95% of the page setups work properly. The only one that don’t work are those for our plotter on paper sizes called ‘A1 (landscape)’ & ‘A0’.
I’ve created new .pc3 files, as I wanted to be sure they weren’t corrupted. We’ve reinstalled the printer/plotter drivers. I’ve reinstalled the office profile. I’ve checked that the paper sizes specified in the lisp routine were available in the .pc3 file.

I'm electrical and have my own display set oddly enough named "electrical". When I set the display to "electrical" I can't osnap to endpoint or midpoint of smart walls in the background (nearest works fine). When I change the display to something else, generally it works.
I have been trying to use my ERASE command in order to use a window polygon but I'm not getting the results in need. This is what happens....
I type in ERASE, then WP and from there I select my polygon shape and the items I want deleted. I don't join the last endpoint of the window with the first point I just hit ENTER twice but nothing happens.
I am having several problems with my xrefs. My two big problems are xrefs bringing in way more information than I want, and they are duplicating if they are selected, even when I have the xref layers locked.
My set up is this:
I have a plan file, a grid line file, an elevation file, and a section file.
I want all files to be referenced to each other. However, I do not want duplicates of any xref. For instance, in my section drawing, I will reference my plan file which consequently brings in any file that is referenced in the plan file. I know that I will get the circular reference warning and that I can click continue. However, is there any way I can just get "1 degree of nesting"?
Second, I cannot figure out how to lock my xrefs to prevent them from constantly being selected. My problem is that in my live drawing information, if I select everything within my window and an xref is in that window, it will be copied. I don't ever want to duplicate my xrefs, but I can't find a way to lock them (even when locking xref layers).
ACA12 - the mouse wheel doesn't work on many of the dropdowns anymore? Is this an 'improvement' or is there a new variable I need to learn to turn it back on.
Do autodesk have only 12 fonts on their machine? Why is the text style font name drop boxes so tiny? Makes it real time consuming to select a font when you have lots of fonts as I'd imagine most machines have.
there is a command that allows for editing the actual line work in an object controlled by the Display System... it is a last resort command if you cannot get the object to display as you wish. What is it?
it's possible to create a barrel vault skylight that would work similar to a curtain wall (i.e. stretch the skylight and it adjusts to a fixed size and adds mullions)?
My accelerator keys for the right-click object-snap cursor menu do not work. For example, I will be drawing a line and I will bring up the object-snap menu, then I will select ‘E’ for endpoint snap, the ‘e’ will display in the dynamic input window and the snap does not work.
Im working on a student version of Architectural CAD 2012 i drew a floor plan and used AEC Dimensions on my model space but when i switch over to work space they don't show up. I tried matching properties and switching between paper and model but so far no luck.
I keep running into a situation where I would like to be able to create an edge or a work axis at the intersection of a work plane and the surface of the part. I figured out a work around if the surface is flat, but I haven't figured out a work around for a curved surface.
How do I create work axis where work plane intersects curved surface?
Or put another way: How do I project intersection of work plane and curved surface onto the work plane in a 2D sketch?
I need to be able to draw a 2D sketch on the work plane, but get a perfectly matching projected line onto the work plane, from the curved surface, at the intersection of the curved surface and the work plane.
The attached jpg shows the intersection in question. I circled it.
I updated my computer to windows 7 32 bit and need the file: AdskHwCertificationDatabase.xml - version 17.1.0.4 so that I can find out the correct driver for my OS and my quadrofx 1700 graphics card. Autodesk doesn't support 2008 Architecture and the on;y file I can find is buried in a torrent file with a pirated copy of 2008 and I DO NOT wish to download that.
All of my block updates work just fine when I use them in MEP 12, but we have a couple of drafters working in vanilla AutoCAD & for some reason the same commands/ blocks/ settings (same exact file even) that work in MEP do not work in regular ACAD.
Now they do "work" - the commands/ block insertion - but the annotative adjustment (i.e. 1/4" to 1/8" to etc) do not work until I select the block and add the desired scale to its annotative object scale list - why is this necessary? it isn't in MEP? The blocks work/ act properly annotatively once inserted and adjusted as mentioned above, but again, why? Why? Why is this necessary? All of the scale are in the block file as it resides in my block folder...?
