I'm working on this model and I am trying to use the surface trim command in cad 2011, but its not working and its pissing me off. I want to use the trim and use the dome in my model as the cutting edge to cut the parts of the curved walls that fall inside the dome but it is not working. I have the file uploaded.
View 1 RepliesI was wondering if there is an easy way to trim one surface to another. Right now, I have two slopes (3:1) that are perpendicular to each other. They meet at a corner and I have extended them past each other so that I could see the intersecting edge. Now I would like to trim them to each other like you would a polyline etc... but I am not sure how to do this.
If I select surf trim, it tells me they are the wrong object type, but they are tin surfaces?
Can you create a wireframe mesh consisting of lines or splines out of lofted surface?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI m working in autoCAD'13. I have got this drawing from a client. I need to trim these surfaces to get only the outer surfaces. But since these are not intersecting at right angles, i m not able to trim these surfaces.
Please find attached a small part of the concerned drawing. The intersecting surfaces in the drawing have to be trimmed.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to add points into a surface. I have done this before without any problems, but now I am having issues.
When I ID points which makes up the surface it gives me the correct Z level e.g. 24.5m, however when I hover over the surface it shows me the surface name and a different z level e.g. 0.65m. What is the reason for this difference in z levels? I think this may be causing the issue I am having when I add new points.
I select the surface and use the 'edit surface command' in the ribbon, choosing add point.
When I add a point at the level I require(23.89m), it puts it in a lot higher than the surrounding area, so I tried to put the point in to the lower z levels (0.4m) it puts it in a lot lower!
When I initiate the trim command with a double enter (i.e. select all mode), I usually first zoom into the area I want to trim so I see no other objects, then start the trim <Enter><Enter> option, then pick the lines I want to trim. Even if these extend off the screen and cross other objects (not seen on the screen), they usually trim off completely. However, on occassion they don't. To replicate the problem try this:
Draw 2 vertical lines and 2 horizontal intersecting (like noughts and crosses)Draw a horizontal line that intersects both vertical lines but up near the top of those linesZoom in so you only see the square and extending lines (but not the short horizontal line)Trim <Enter> <Enter> and pick from bottom right to top left (i.e. around the squareZoom out.
The square is trimmed, however there are 2 line fragments left above the horizontal short line.
Fix: UndoTrim the same way and presto, it now works I found if I then moved the line above (so only a small amount), zoomed in again, tried to trim - same error.
We recently upgraded to Autocad Architecture 2013 and the trim command is driving me mental. Lets say I have a window mullion pattern with 4 intersecting lines and I want to trim out the center. (see attached example) I start the trim command, then right to left window to select the 4 lines, then use another right to left selection window to trim out the lines. It always leaves on of the lines leaving me to have to click one more time. This is a huge pain when you have to do this multiple times. That is a lot of extra clicks. What gives? I never had this issue before.

In 2013 (with out selecting trim all) the trim line didn't have to intersect the line you wanted to trim. We just upgraded to 2014 and I noticed that if I want to trim a line that the lines have to intersect. A line that doesn't intersect with the selected trim line will not trim.
A problem i have encountered with LT 2011 is the extend or trim command freezing/taking a long time to extend or trim.
If i zoom up close, extend/trim works as normal instantly, but if i zoom out further & try the same extend/Trim it can take 30 seconds or more.
I dont remember having this issue on previous LT versions, I've found this with many if not all drawings
How to trim or break the splines at the intersections with solid or surface elements. I need only the parts of the line that can be seen in the given example.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to trim one side of a circular surface by using a projected line that forms my trimming line. The original surface is simply a circle that is swept along a path (like a tube/cylinder). When trimming by using the projected line it wants to cut all the way through the surface (i.e. both sides of the tube/cylinder) but I only want it to cut out one side. Is there a way of allowing this or do I create two semi-circular surfaces, therefore only cutting/trimming in effect one side?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am drawing a fan wheel. The fan blade is curved intersects the shroud, consisting of two cones. I do not know how to trim the blade to the cones. I tried to "split" the blade at the cones and then "delete face" but then the "Go to flat pattern" section on the ribbon is missing. If I suppress the "delete face" feature the "Go to flat pattern" re-appears.

I'm in the process of making a traffic light and have got a bit stuck on the shade around the light.
I first made a profile curve and revolved it to get a kind of cup shape. The profile curve double backs on itself so the revolve is not completely flat.
Next I projected a curve onto the side of the revolve to get the wavy shape of the light shade, and trimmed the excess off.
Now I have my lovely traffic light shape, but the ends where the revolve was trimmed are not attached. (Because I double backed the profile curve)
Is there any way I can close up this gap?

I am using Autocad 2010. I have been using 2008, but recently upgraded. I have a project that one particular file is driving me nuts! I can not use trim or extend on any existing line work. However, if I draw two non intersecting/crossing lines and ust the 'TR' command it works fine. I have checked to see if all lines are in the same plane and the appear to be. The only way I can trim or extend is if I use the 'Flatten' command.

it gave the results shown in the picture named "Earlier result"
But now I am getting differently like "current result"
But Earlier result is comfortable for me,.

if you care to not click-through, the problem is that certain commands (not all of them) simply do not disply in the command line. so the MOVE command for example looks like this:

same with QSAVE and who knows how many others.
Site layout has moved and rotated a little. Have spot elevation labels in my sheet but unable to use align command. Align command is able to be used but only moves labels rather than move and rotate.

The 3D poly on the left worked correctly, but when trying SURFPATCH on the right (axe head shape) the resulting surface id rectangular - why? looks like I will need to revert to EDGESURF - for now
I am trying to locate the image over the glass surface.
But once picture is located over the glass the Decal command makes my picture transparent.
Is there any way to make it not transparent?
So far it works only with not transparent substrate.

I have a grid of around 100 points which are spread reasonably evenly.
I need to turn them into a surface as to see the height change between the points more clearly.
I'm having a problem creating a 3D Solid from two 3dpoly lines. I'm attaching a script file which reproduces the two 3dpoly lines to use for the LOFT command. As you can see when running it, I have two closed 3dpoly lines which use exactly the same X,Y coordinates and differ only in the Z axis. I'd like to make a 3D Solid with these lines, which should be possible using the LOFT command... but I only get a surface around the 'sides'.
I needed to remove the .scr extension from the file in order to attach it, so to run it you need to replace .txt with .scr at the end of the filename. It's a standard ASCII script file. If someone prefers I can also give the coordinates of the 3dpoly lines as a post.
i have recived an igs fle which i imported into auticad 2012.when imported the and saved as an .dwg the model is in surfaces, im looking to convert the surface to solid so i can export the file as an .stl for 3d printing. is it possible to convert this?

Then I try to convert to a surface and while the geometry is accurate the isolines change dramatically. I'm trying to bring the item into Inventor so that I can have a clean surface to work from. Now with the new version when I use MOVE command, not only one line is moved, it is moved the whole object (Like the object is a block, but is not).
How can I move only one single object from my drawing?
