AutoCAD 2010 :: Convert To Surface From Mesh
Oct 16, 2012
I've got a fairly complicated polygon mesh that I turned into a mesh. No problem. Then I try to convert to a surface and while the geometry is accurate the isolines change dramatically. I'm trying to bring the item into Inventor so that I can have a clean surface to work from. Unfortunately I get what you see in the picture. The top left is before converting to a surface. Bottom right is after.

I have received a drawing drawn in a polyface mesh and I'm trying to convert it into a 3D shape in order to determine the volume and surface area of the shapes.

I just started with Autocad and I got a problem with creating a solid. The file is attached and as you can see I managed to make the form as a Mesh but from that point I can't convert it to a solid.

'developing' or 'unrolling' or 'finding the true shape' of a 3D surface? Something similar to Robert McNeel's Rhino3D's UnrollSrf command to flatten a surface. (Is a mesh better?)
I am drawing the frames for a wooden surfboard which has curved spars (the surface in question) which need rolling out flat to make a template. The surface is curved in the XY axis only, so in theory it should be developable.

I'd like to be able to create a surface or mesh from contour lines to give a better 3D representation of terrain than just contour lines. "Drape" seems to be the tool ACA, but I'm wondering if AutoCAD can do something similar. LOFT sorta works, but even then, I have to do it in sections, and I'm not really looking for a solid.

I have a complicated 3d mesh and i want to use some edges in another software. The software accepts lines and i want to convert mesh to simple lines. I can make 3d polyline from the mesh but i can't convert it to line.
How we can convert mesh to line or 3d face to line or 3d polyline to line?

I have a 3d model of a building and all of the faces of the building are of the type polyface mesh. If I use explode, each polyface mesh gets split into individual 3d faces. But, I'd simply like to replace each polyface mesh with a 3d face (not multiple 3d faces). Is there anyway to do this?
The reason I'm doing this is because I'm importing the building model into ray tracing software, but the software doesn't like the building when the faces are of the type polyface mesh.

I have created a TIN (triangulated irregular network) of an existing survey in my terrain modelling software (12d Model). I am able to export (save-as) the TIN as 3D Face Triangles for opening in AutoCAD (2012) or similar.
My ultimate goal is to create a solid surface in Inventor. The surface has to be seemless (stitched) in order for me to create a new sketch and extrude to this surface. Finally giving me a part in Inventor that represents my ground. I would then want to use the same process to bring into Inventor all other Civil Design works created in 12d Model such as roads, earthworks platforms (including dams) etc.
I've tried stitching (Inventor and Microstation) without success. Inventor keeps crashing and Microstation looses data. AutoCAD (2012) won't let me create a polyface mesh from 3D Faces. I tried doing a mesh, surface union without success. Programs either crash or data is lost.

Ok received parts from a customer. It was ALL mesh features.I converted some of them(the mesh features) to Solids. Some would not convert to solids (converted to surfaces).
I need to have the COG show up correctly. Yes, I have a physical COG. I know where it is supposed to be.
I am trying to use this and several other parts (with mixed, Solids, Surfaces, Mesh features), in an assembly AND balance it all thru a common lift point.
How can I correct the COG of the individual parts, so that the assembly is correct.
I have work planes for the corrected COGs, but I am afraid that I will need to calculate the new COG for the assebmly.

I have a dwg file of a section of a tunnel that has been exported from Microstation as a polyface mesh surface. What I am trying to achieve is cutting a hole into the surface. I am assuming that I cannot cut a surface directly, but need to convert it to a solid first.
I've searched this site and I have tried everything I can think of to no avail. Inventor does not seem to be able to convert the surface to a solid. Also, when I import the surface to Inventor, some of the triangular meshes are not there, and there are too many "holes" to patch them manually. I've also tried using lisps in AutoCAD, but on the surface and 3D faces after exploding it, but for example m2s.lsp or f2s.lsp do not seem to work.
I have also had the same file exported from Microstation as ACIS .sat, but version 18.0 is not readable by Inventor. Is there a way to convert the ASCII file to an older version?
I am using Inventor 2013, and I also have AutoCAD 2013 available.

We received a surface model from a vendor that I have patched up as best I can, it still has one hole that I can find that I haven't been able to fill. Ideally we would like to have a solid model, but I'm running out of time to get this done and the surface model we have would be good enough for our purposes IF I can get the yellow surface tangent lines to turn off or change their color to black.
I've attached a jpg of the surface model with the yellow lines and uploaded the model here: [URL].....

I am working on 3D modelling of a building in AutoCAD 2010. The 3D model has 7 elements ie walls, roof and its constituents and floor and its constituents. I have to mesh the 3D model created so that I can use the meshed model for further analysis. Is there any method for meshing the created 3D model in AutoCAD?

I created a 3D math surface using 3DPLOT. However my outcome is a polyface mesh and I need to convert it to a solid. I have already tried the "Convert to Solid" & "Convert to Surface" options in the Mesh tab but I get "Mesh not converted because it is not closed or it self-intersects." I also tried the f2s.lsp but I am unsure on how to select my object.
Here is my drawing.
It is basically a 3D plot of cos(x) + cos(y).

I am trying to import a Polyface Mesh of a road plan to use in Terramodel. Terramodel handles .dwf and .dxf perfectly, but I seem to be having trouble preserving the elevations when importing. The polyface mesh imports in as polylines and without preserving the given elevations. I have used autocad in the past and have access to Autocad Civil 3d 2012 if need be.
Is there an import tool or command I am missing or unaware of that will allow the import to take place successfully?

In previous versions I could create a flat polygon mesh by typing "3D" and have an option to create a planar mesh "M" X "N" by specifying the 4 corners along with M and N. I don't see a way to draw this mesh in 2012 without having to ID every vertices. This procedure is listed in the Legacy portion of Help, but I do not see a way to do it.

create a G-code from an AutoCAD desktop 3D model of a 1911 pistal grip saved as a DXF file. I have a CNC 6040 3 axis routing machine. I have tried to load the DXF file as an import but the file is not recognized by the Mach3 software.
I have downloaded a lisp comand for my AutoiCAD program which is supposed to generate a G-code within Autocad but It doesnt recongnized some 3D elements. I am having a dificult time getting the generater to read a "mesh" 3D form to generate a G-code. I hope this doesnt sound all too confusing... the bottom line is I cant seem to get a G-code out of a 3D CAD form....way to generate smoothly a G-code from an AutoCAD 3D form?

I'm using AutoCAD Mechanical 2010 and received a .DXF file that contains 'solid' objects. Unfortunately the next tool in my workflow doesn't understand 'solids' only polylines (and a few other basic shapes like circles, lines, etc). Is there some way to convert the object in AutoCAD?
I tried the 'boundary' command but when it asks to 'Pick Points' and I click inside the solid, it always gives the error 'Valid hatch boundary not found'.
What am I missing here?
