AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Convert Polyline Object (with X / Y / Z) To TIN SURFACE
Sep 2, 2012
how to convert polyline object (with x, y, z) to TIN SURFACE BECAUSE IF THIS OBJECT STILL POLYLINE OBJECT, I CAN'T RUNNING CATCHMENT AREA, ADD LABEL ETC
I need to convert my surface boundary to a polyline so I can use it to clip another surface. Is there a simpler way than tracing it with the polyline command?
I want to draw a 3D-polyline and wrap it to a surface so that the elevations in the surface aplies to the polyline. With every elevation difference i want a vertrice to be added to the polyline so that it follows the surface perfectly along the polyline length.
I have started to use CIVIL3D 2007 instead of LAND-DESKTOP 3.
My question is: When I used LDD I created a surface, then drew a polyline and by right-clicking chose "Project object".
This option produced many new points along my polyline which I used for my design.
When I tried this with CIVIL 3D I couldn't find this option.
I can create a quick profile, however, this is not good for me because I need the data as a collection of points with coordinates & elevation, and not as an image.
Is there any way to produce a projection on a surface (from a polyline)?
Or getting some information from the quick profile in the way I need?
Feature lines are easy to make and great for grading. However, when I try to save the drawing into *.dxf, all the feature lines disappeared. Does this mean DXF files do not take feature lines?
I need the DXF files to up load into GPS. Do I have to redraw everything in 3D polyline?Or is there an easier way to convert feature lines into 3D polylines?
I have a proposed surface that has been made by selection polyline with a z elevation as contours. Is it possible to have civil 3d easily change the weeding and supplementing factors to a tighter value after it has already been made?
I'm working on crane pads for a windfarm development and have run into an issue that has never happened in the other 60 or so ones I've done previously.
I have a polyline (elevation added in via Properties) that I want to convert to a feature line for use in grading but when I try to convert I get the message below
When I check the properties and do a LIST the list reports a negative elevation.
I am working on a complex industrial site. And I would like a constant grade of 3.00% from my road intersections to the edge of curves. I know if I used a corridor, I'd be able to tell the grading to project ot the edge of the road/curve.
I'm just wondering if I can tell a grading object to project to a polyline or feature line along a intersection curve? There are many reasons as to why I'm not using corridors for this project, but I don't want to get into that.
Is there a way to define object data to a polygon or a poly line in C3d? I imported a shape file and saw that in the properties dialog box the object data of the polygons is displayed. I would like to define create new polygons and define certain atrributes to it before exporting it as a shape file. This would would eliminate the need to use a GIS program to define the attributes of the polygons.
Im using PCSWMM and would like to define certain atributes to polygons and polylines in C3D before i import it in to PCSWMM.
I've been working on a custom polyline object, and I've got it functioning!!Having said that, I plan to run its creation around picking a point for bounary selection.
(Other than trying to step through every vertecies) is there a technique I can thow the polyline data from a traceboundary result into my custom object? I've been trying to add the polyline from traceboundary to my object BEFORE it's added to the transaction by the way...I assume that's right, since I want to put it's data in my custom object then add my custom object to the transaction instead.
I am wondering is it posible to insert object, building in surface? I draw object with box and gave it z coordinate. the goal is that it shows in profile. also, can feature line with greading be shawn in profile?
I have used the object viewer of my surface and selected conceptual visual style. I save the image as a .png file for a presentation. Is it possible to have the area that there is no surface to be black and not white? Other than opening it up in paint?
In model space I grab my tin, then object viewer. Everything comes up then immediately on rotating my vie win the object viewer the surface disappears.
Today I opened a file that has previously worked perfectly well, only to find that when I open my surface in Object Viewer and begin to rotate it manually, the triangles making up the surface do not appear. I have the contour lines and border (what is enabled in the Edit Surface Style/Display/Model tab) although the triangles (which should be displayed as well) do not appear. Other surfaces show like they should.
Is there another option other than the Edit Surface Style/Display/Model tab and the VISUALSTYLES command?
see attachment (object viewer capture). The top surface is my OG, the bottom surface is the bottom of excavation for a building. I want to project the perimeter of the building footprint up to the OG surface at a 1:5 slope. I remember in LDD the perimeter of a building, berm, dam, ditch...could be projected to the OG with specific slopes and then you could create a surface with the projected lines and do a volume calc. between the two. What is the procedure to do this in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012?
is it possible to get the alignment name which the corridor surface is built from when the surface is being data referenced. in other word no corridor as the middleman.
the way i see it is when corridor suface is referenced, it becomes a regular surface and loses some properties such as parent alignment.
i am still using COM. maybe .net can do it? either way works.

I have created a series of splined lines into a polyline (pedit) which I want to extrude. When I extrude the polyline I only get an extruded polyline and not a surface. I need to create a mesh or make the surface a face to extrude to make a solid. I have not used AutoCad for some years and have forgotten how to do this. I know that I am making an incorrect procedure here somehow.
I would like to know how can put planar surface to solid object which surface is curved like cylinder for example. When start draw from first point rectangle of planar surface follow x cordinate not that solid object. How to do that simply?
I am wanting to digitize a geology map using AC Map 3d. When I draw 2d polylines of geology units, I would like to be able to drap these onto a DTM suface so I can have them in 3d. How do I do this?
We received a surface model from a vendor that I have patched up as best I can, it still has one hole that I can find that I haven't been able to fill. Ideally we would like to have a solid model, but I'm running out of time to get this done and the surface model we have would be good enough for our purposes IF I can get the yellow surface tangent lines to turn off or change their color to black.
I've attached a jpg of the surface model with the yellow lines and uploaded the model here: [URL].....
I want to convert a line (Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.Line) to a polyline (Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.Polyline).
Currently I get all the properties from the line, create a new polyline with it and delete the line. I fear data may get lost this way. What is the best way to convert a line to a polyline?
// Line properties:// Color.// Layer.// Linetype.// Linetype scale.// Plot style.// Lineweight.// Hyperlink.// Thickness.// Material.// Start X.// Start Y.// Start Z.// End X.// End Y.// End Z.// Start point.// End point.
I've MAP 3D 2013 64 bit (French version) with SP1.
When I launch command to "Convert polyline to polygon" (_MapPolylineToPolygon), I've message on command line "Select objetcs", I can convert to polygon =>OK
If I launched this command a second time, I've no possibility to select object, I come back to command line.I quit MAP, then launch MAP, and I can use this command only 1 time.
