Oct 19, 2011If you look in the attached PDF, I have an elliptical wall that also has changes in elevation. call it a compound radius if you will. What I have to do is to make a wall cap to go on top of the wall. I know, sounds fun.....I have the surface on the right of the PDF and i need to figure out how i can take that shape and have it lay flat so that i can cut this shape out on my CNC. i know I can use the FLATSHOT command, but this will not give me the true shape of the board.

Now, I will run this rule from an assembly file to create automatically, in all sheet metal components, theses iproperties.

Aug 5, 2013I am trying to create a sidewalk area that has a 45 degree 8'x8' hatch pattern in the model. It shows up in 3D but not 2D. What is the problem? It needs to show up in my plans. I have the same problem getting floors to show surface patterns too. Using Revit 2011. A friend gets it to work on his computer with the same version.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Drawing A Pattern Of Circles?
Jul 9, 2012I am trying to make a hexagonal lattice of circles (1 micron dia, period - 3 microns) and exted it over a square cm in area atleast. The final objective is to make this as a mask pattern for the Laser fabrication/writer. So I create the pattern over a small area and use array command to extend it over a finite area (~500 microns or so). I then combine these points to a single block and then use the mirror command to extend it even further. But as soon as I reach an area of 2.5 mm square, the program seems to slow down and doesnt respond. I assume this is the limitation of my computing power to handle so many objects at once. (I have 4 GB RAM and 97 % is utilized at this time). Is there a way to circumvent this computing limitation, making use of some facility/command within AutoCAD?

I'm afraid I cannot use solution as stated here Equation-driven surface , because saddle surface looks like this hyperbolic paraboloid .
I tried this solution: I made 3D surface in Matlab, exported it in .stl and opened in Inventor - but this only makes the surface with no thickness. Functions extrude, loft require 2D sketch.

On the drawing I was working on, the part completly behind a surface was showing up until I rotated the view, then it dissapeared, this behaviour is not present in the test idw, the part doesnt appear at all behind the surface.

Jul 26, 2012I've downloaded a DEM and made a surface from it creating a HUGE file. I only need about an eighth of that area. How can I crop the surface to be a smaller area? I realize I can create a boundary, but I really don't need all the data outside the boundary.... I want a smaller file so it doesn't have to create one of those *.mms files.
Surely I don't have to export the boundaried area as triangles to a regular ACAD file, then make a surface from those triangles... do I? Not that it's that big of a hassle, but seems like a roundabout way of doing things.

The screenshot below isn't exactly what its going to look like - I just drew a quick spline and extruded it into a surface to show what I'm trying to accomplish. I need to "cut" the sufrace to reflect the height of the stringer (will be 16") and to follow its pitch.

Apr 5, 2012I'm trying to make a surface cut on my part. The part is a round cylindrical shaped cap with a surface geometry going through the center. I want to make that surface geometry remove some of the cylindrical part by about half the wall thickness.
See the attachment of the picture "cap" for a picture with the surfaces I'm speaking about. The orange features are surfaces and the grey feature is just a solid cylinder that I want to cut. The vertical, cylindrical surface in orange is where I want the grey cylinder to be cut along the curved orange surface. Only on the grey area outside of the orange cylindrical surface is to be cut while leaving everything grey on the inside area of the cylindrical surface will remain.
The picture titled "ideal cap" is the look that I'm going for on the picture titled "cap" which I'm trying to perform this cut on. The picture titled "ideal cap" was made using Pro/E and I'm trying to mimic the same thing in Inventor. How I can do this?

Jun 26, 2012I'm having a problem creating a 3D Solid from two 3dpoly lines. I'm attaching a script file which reproduces the two 3dpoly lines to use for the LOFT command. As you can see when running it, I have two closed 3dpoly lines which use exactly the same X,Y coordinates and differ only in the Z axis. I'd like to make a 3D Solid with these lines, which should be possible using the LOFT command... but I only get a surface around the 'sides'.
I needed to remove the .scr extension from the file in order to attach it, so to run it you need to replace .txt with .scr at the end of the filename. It's a standard ASCII script file. If someone prefers I can also give the coordinates of the 3dpoly lines as a post.

Nov 21, 2013I have a long, serpentine, 3D solid that also changes elevation. It's "S" shaped from the top and "U" shaped from the side. I need to place objects perpendicular to one surface and at a specific increment. The 3D Solid is about 3000 feet long and I need to put the perpendicular objects (3D solid or a block) at 4' increments (this is the linear dimension and not an aligned dimension) and they must always follow the orientation of the long solid. Imagine a railroad track twisting and turning as it goes through a valley and trying to put a post, aligned to the bottom of the track, every 4’ as seen from the top.

The objects remain on their own layers, but I am not able to delete the hatch pattern without deleting the boundaries.
I cannot edit the hatch pattern either as the application no longer recognises the hatch pattern.
Have i changed a setting unwittingly?
