AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Make A Tunnel Subassembly With A Surface Target
Oct 15, 2013
I've to make a tunnel on my project. I get some subassembly on web but all the tunnel subassemblies have the target point on Width or Offset Target and Slop or Elevation Target. I don't know whats happens but only my region that owns the tunnel subassembly isn't recognizing on corridor, and isn't drawing on my sections too.

I can import my SA fine, but the problem is that the top of it needs to be cut off 1 m above the existing ground (which is already a surface in civil 3d). How do I setup the target surface so that when I import the SA into my drawing, I can link it to that surface and have it cut off 1 m above the surface?

I created a custom assembly that has an offset target. Is it possible to program my subassembly to target only on the side of my subassembly (and not criss-cross onto itself it the target is on the other side)?

Am struggling to pull off some corridor but the standard daylight subassembly is letting me down. It mulfunctions when I connect it to the Generic Linktoslope subassembly. In some Areas it works fine but in others it doesn't. My plan is to apply a ditch at the point where the LinktoSlope meets the ground level and to have this ditch again daylight back to the target surface.

This is my first corridor and I've been slowly working my way through it, but just seem to be running into problems left and right. My latest problem is the following;
I have my Corridor's Subassembly Daylighting set to target my Left side 33' R/W offset alignment. For 90% of my alignment everything is working fine or at least appears to, but I have 3 different areas where the Corridor refuses to daylight from the bottom of the 1' ditch out to said left alignment target even though the ditch is well below existing grade. I've attached 2 screen grabs.

I am trying to model a DOT project in a fashion that allows a corridor surface creation for not only the finished surface, but also the datum surface. This is a machine control project currently under construction. One of the DOT's typical sections includes a shoulder subassembly with a grade break in it. This particular assembly varies in width at the grade break. I would like to have the option for a target width alignment at the grade break.
See attached sketch.

if i want to target the existing surface beyond the edges of my road/sidewalk, should i use the link slope to surface subassembly at both ends? i want the model to test if in a cut or fill situation, and then target.

I have created a new assembly that uses a HMA dike rather than your typical curb but my surface always begins at the top of the HMA pavement rather than the top of the curb subassembly. See Picture. Where's the setting to fix this (is it a daylight setting) or it is a bigger problem in that I didn't create the subassembly or assembly correct to begin with?

I'm trying to create flexible model of a penstock with different ground surface elevation scenario.
In case if both top points of trench below or above EG, there will be cut/fill case to EG.
how to connect P1'/P2' and AX1/AX2 via EG? Basic link wouldn't work because it will be just a straight line.

I'm building up my assembly and I want to add a daylight sub-assembly in order to grade my proposed surface to the existing surface. Typically I would have a 1:3 slope up or down. I have choosen the DaylightGeneral for this and although there is quite a few parameters to play with, I'm only interested in the up/down slope but when I put anything sleeper than 1:4 it doesn't work, I get this red line and circle.

When I use ImportSubassembly API to import my subassembly created by Autodesk Subassembly Composer into my civil project, it reports error-"eFilerError".
the code like this:
atcFile = @"D:9f92eaa4ef514ac982518852e1169932.atc";
itemId = "ab660722-c69d-4ade-b373-0e9f99c94e55";
SubassemblyCollection subassemblyCollection = cDoc.SubassemblyCollection;
ObjectId subassemblyId = subassemblyCollection.ImportSubassembly("TestSubassembly", atcFile, itemId, this.doc.Editor.GetPoint("Select import subAssembly location").Value);
However, it is OK if to import subassembly provided by Cilvil 3D.

We are currently designing a Highways project which includes a cut and cover Tunnel (dual 3 lane through goes underneath a signalized at grade junction). Navisworks will be used for clash detection of all disciplines. To clarify the cut and cover structure will be similar to a large box culvert. Although new to the software; the Highways team will be undertaking the Civil Highways design in Civil 3D.
My question is - what is the best Autodesk solution for the structure and associated retaining walls? Note at this stage we are unsure what all of the design components will be (e.g. pump room for drainage etc). Previously the Structures team would have produced a 2D design (however 3D modeling is a requirement).
I have seen on the internet Civil 3D and Revit Structures being used interactively (although it appeared to be incorporating bridges only). Is Civil 3D able to affectively model this structure and retaining walls within the subassembly composer? Or is the question more to do with how the Structures team will complete their design (i.e. reinforcement detailing / scheduling etc).

I'm totally new in Civil 3D. I'm using 3D laser scanner to measure and lately draw 3D "as build" models of tunnels, bridges etc. So now I have 3D model of bridge, which is simply created with layers, 3d faces, boxes etc. - primitive ACAD 3D modelling.
Now I want to create sections on multiple stacions. How to start? Is there any step by step tut with this feature?

I want to build a mine-tunnel for a mine-cart game. So I thought of creating three tunnelframes for the motion. I attached those three different wall elements I've got:
decke 1, decke 2, decke 3
I tried a couple of times to align them, but the result is just not right. I can't get them in the same shape (frame1, frame2, frame3).
I can't really get three frames done so that it looks like you're moving forward in a mine-tunnel. Is my approach just wrong? how I could get three frames done in psd?

At entry / exit ramp connection,
Since frequencies of corridors are perpendicular to their respective alignments, there is gap developed in between two corridors on ramp as shown in snaps.
This is common problem in roads & highways, I know how fix the same.
But if my cross section is a Tunnel? (Cross Section- Elliptical Roof)

I've downloaded a DEM and made a surface from it creating a HUGE file. I only need about an eighth of that area. How can I crop the surface to be a smaller area? I realize I can create a boundary, but I really don't need all the data outside the boundary.... I want a smaller file so it doesn't have to create one of those *.mms files.
Surely I don't have to export the boundaried area as triangles to a regular ACAD file, then make a surface from those triangles... do I? Not that it's that big of a hassle, but seems like a roundabout way of doing things.

I have this contour lines from dwg file (see attached) and I am trying to make a surface out of it. Initially i thought it is already a surface for C3D but i cant seem to follow tutorials. While browsing for solutions from the Internet, it seems it is not even a contour file that can be added in C3D. what is this file and how i can convert it into a surface in C3D?

How can I make sure the annotated surface labels spot elevations from my 3d design drawing which is being xrefed into a new Precise Grading Breakout Sheet plots screened?
The Label Style which I created for the annotated surface label spot elevations has all its properties set to be ByLayer for example its color and lineweight. The Layer I assigned the Label Style was assigned to a layer with a color and plot style that should plot any object screened. Color 8 and Plot Style Screened.
What other steps am I missing to assure myself that this Label Style will plot screened in my new Precise Grading Breakout Sheet?
I also made sure that the xref drawing in which this Surface spot elevation has the correct colors and lineweights and Plot Styles in my new Precise Grading Breakout Sheet.

I have some parts in a subassembly that I want to make invisible. When I input my iLogic code(that I used hundreds of times before) the part is made invisible in the subassembly only if I open the subassembly. When I go back to the parent assembly it still shows the part visible. Here is a sample of my
If ACCESS_DOOR = "NO DOOR" ThenComponent.InventorComponent("INSPECTION DOOR:1").BOMStructure=BOMStructureEnum.kReferenceBOMStructureComponent.Visible("INSPECTION DOOR:1") = FalseElse If ACCESS_DOOR = "12X12X6"
[Code].....
The components I'm referring to are the components "Component.Visible("ACCESS DOOR STUD:2") = True" for the stud,clamp, and handle.

I am using OffsetTaget.isValid in my subassembly.But i realize that when i put this formula it checks the whole drawing for that target and if the target polyline exist even a piece of polyline in the drawing then C3D considers it for all sample lines.Is ıt possible to be able to check each single sample line if it is going to intersect that target polyline or not?

i know how to set all the targets but this link seems to be a fixed length.

What i want to do is ; i have a corridor with both right/left sides ending with linktosurface with fixed slope.In some sections my existing surface is not wide enough to get intersection with link to surface with fixed slope. So i want to use this "conditional horizontal target " if my surface is not enough wide for intersection then just intersect or go to the edge of my existing surface. But i learned that surfaces cannot be used as an offset target with that subassembly.

how to make the TARGET of the clone stamp, multiple simultaneous layers? Or maybe more accurately, how to clone stamp the top layer and have the layer underneath doing the exact same cloning simultaneously. Or maybe a workaround? I've tried linking the layers, and multiple layer selection with no joy.
Here is what I'm trying to do. I'm duplicating a layer, then applying LucisArt to one of the layers to greatly exaggerate local contrast. Though I'm not using LucisArt as the final, I want to use it to assist in smoothing blotchy skies, banding, and finding hidden camera sensor dust spots.
I want to clone stamp on the LucisArt layer so I can watch my progress, but also have the underlying layer doing the exact clone stamping at the same time.
