1. Why does my part not show up behind a surface?
2. What is the minimum dimension to make my part appear?
On the drawing I was working on, the part completly behind a surface was showing up until I rotated the view, then it dissapeared, this behaviour is not present in the test idw, the part doesnt appear at all behind the surface.
I'm modeling a temperature gauge and would like to have glass over the gauge so the inside is visible. I can easily do this with an assembly, but I'm wanting to do this with a single part. I tried to derive a new part from the assembly, but the transparent part turns solid so nothing inside is visible. Is it possible to do this?

Is it possible to use an Autodesk Inventor .iam (assembly) to generate a file containing only the visible/exterior surfaces of that .iam?
My employer has a requirement that, in certain situations, only data without internal features/details can be supplied to customers.In this case, we only want the customer to be able to view the assembly & not see the internal features of individual parts.
I have a large assembly that I have been working with for about a month . I recently went in and changed some information and it seems that my work plane is way out of whack! How to get it back down to size. this makes it real difficult to use my space navigator because the center of gravity is off bigtime too. I also would like to know how to make all parts and features visible, is there a button somewhere?

Most of the time, i make a selection in the model browser and want to put a list of parts directly invisible. Sometimes i also select already invisble parts.
Now what inventor wants to do is make them all first visible before i can make them invisible. As far as i know, there is no other option to do this.
Is there maybe a combination with holding shift or something to directly toggle them invisible?
I am trying to create a rule that if a certain property is set to Gx then certain text on a template becomes invisble.

But alas it does not work. I guess I could create the text using layers and make the layers invisible but is it possible.
I've generated my steel frame model using a skeletal model technique. So my part file consists of only sketch lines representing where I want my steel to be placed. I've created an assembly and used that in my inventor.dwg file.
The problem is that I need to dimension to the sketch file and not to the model shapes because the sketch lines define the center of gravity. These lines aren't visible even though I've right-clicked on the content and selected "Get Model Sketches". How I can get my skeletal model through to the DWG environment?
I need to make a model of saddle surface. The surface is given by equation z = y^2 - x^2, and I must have some thickness - It will be printed on 3D printer.
I have Inventor 2014 and I dont see possibility of making the surface directly in Inventor. Is there any trick for that?

I tried this solution: I made 3D surface in Matlab, exported it in .stl and opened in Inventor - but this only makes the surface with no thickness. Functions extrude, loft require 2D sketch.
I'm trying to make a surface cut on my part. The part is a round cylindrical shaped cap with a surface geometry going through the center. I want to make that surface geometry remove some of the cylindrical part by about half the wall thickness.
See the attachment of the picture "cap" for a picture with the surfaces I'm speaking about. The orange features are surfaces and the grey feature is just a solid cylinder that I want to cut. The vertical, cylindrical surface in orange is where I want the grey cylinder to be cut along the curved orange surface. Only on the grey area outside of the orange cylindrical surface is to be cut while leaving everything grey on the inside area of the cylindrical surface will remain.
The picture titled "ideal cap" is the look that I'm going for on the picture titled "cap" which I'm trying to perform this cut on. The picture titled "ideal cap" was made using Pro/E and I'm trying to mimic the same thing in Inventor. How I can do this?
What do you think you be the right way to make a surface rough and uneven, as in the picture below? Or should it be done at some later stage?

I want to project a text on a sketch onto a conical surface. The error message is that the chosen surface wasn't tangential to the profile plane. I found no way to rotate the plane.
How do I project my profile onto the conical surface or How do I make the profile plane tangential to the conical surface?
I just had C3D 2013 reinstalled on my LT and having a surface visibility issue. This may be just a command setting issue but I have a surface and created it on a particular layer that I can't make invisible.
Then I turned that layer off so I could work on other things. Now when I do a REGEN that surface becomes visible in my drawing yet the layer identified in its properties is turned off.
If I got to VIEW and ORBIT the surface disappears until I stop rotating then it’s visible again. I like to control visibility by turning layers on or off but this isn’t allowing me to turn it off.
If I make the surface layer current and do a rebuild the surface moves back to that layer and I can then turn that layer off to make the surface invisible.
Why is this surface visible when its layer is turned off?
I've created a surface using Civil 3D 2013. I made a boundary around the perimeter of the site and I've also made some boundaries inside the site where there are no survey points. I assigned "Hide" to these boundaries when I made them in order to not have contours projecting into these areas.
However, with the exception of one of the inner boundaries, some contours are showing up inside the boundaries as well as partial contours. Why are the contours visible and how do I stop them from showing up?
If you look in the attached PDF, I have an elliptical wall that also has changes in elevation. call it a compound radius if you will. What I have to do is to make a wall cap to go on top of the wall. I know, sounds fun.....I have the surface on the right of the PDF and i need to figure out how i can take that shape and have it lay flat so that i can cut this shape out on my CNC. i know I can use the FLATSHOT command, but this will not give me the true shape of the board.

I don't know if I need to create a dynamic block property (or if that can be done), or somehow get this AssocVariable to display on its own.I also noticed that the example for creating a parametric Dimension object, does not set the dimension to the right type of Dynamic dimension. (Play with the Constraint From property in the properties palette, be sure to regen in between).
any way to view invisible block attribute? I created a block and the attributes really don't need to be seen in autocad just there for dataextraction and keeping it all in one location i want to go back through and make sure i have information filled in in all the right invisible attributes without having to open each block and check the attributes, but i don't want them permanently visible (i know i can freeze them or put them on a non plot layer but it clutters up the space when there is 20+ attributes to a block)

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make my contour labels visible, indepently of the Visible status of the contours in the surface style of the original surface that I am working on. I have to do this due the final topo looks strange in the borders so I am displaying another contours -that do not have elevation- and make look the drawing better. The problem is that if I turn off the Visible property of the contours, the labels turn off even that they were created in a different layer and attached to a label style with its own layer property.

Now at certain parts, I would like to increase the thickness and then blend it the rest of the surface(may be chamfer its edges) .
At certain parts on curved surface I would like to add an extra mm, I think if the surface was flat I would just sketch the shape, then extrude it by few mm and smooth the edges by doing a chamfer

I'm designing a press for a skateboard similar to: Rib Press
I have the board modeled: (see attached)
Now what i want to do is generate those ribs as seen in the picture.
I tried creating a block that intersected with the board and tried to split the rib at the surface, but to no avail. I think the issue has something to do with the curve of the board in two directions, but i can't seem to get it right.
if you are having trouble visualizing what i'm asking about, look at this. I want to be able to figure out the exact shape of those center ribs to print and eventually cut out of wood.

I have some Line Labels that got exploded, and they contained Background Masks.
When I make a plot, the mask plots a dark rectangle.
How can I make the masks visible so that they can be erased? Is there a variable for that? What type of entity (name?)are they?
When I make "wipeouts" visible, you still can not see the masks.
