AutoCAD 2013 :: Trim Surfaces To Get Outer Surface
Jun 24, 2013
I m working in autoCAD'13. I have got this drawing from a client. I need to trim these surfaces to get only the outer surfaces. But since these are not intersecting at right angles, i m not able to trim these surfaces.
Please find attached a small part of the concerned drawing. The intersecting surfaces in the drawing have to be trimmed.

I was wondering if there is an easy way to trim one surface to another. Right now, I have two slopes (3:1) that are perpendicular to each other. They meet at a corner and I have extended them past each other so that I could see the intersecting edge. Now I would like to trim them to each other like you would a polyline etc... but I am not sure how to do this.
If I select surf trim, it tells me they are the wrong object type, but they are tin surfaces?

I use Civil 3D 2011. I have created a surface from a point group. Now i want to extend the surface to an outer boundary. To do so, i do the following steps:
- Select the surface and Extract the border object.
- Create feature line from the extracted border polyline
- offset this feature line (featureoffset) to outside specifying a offset distance and specifying the elevation difference as 0.
- Add this offseted new featureline as the boundary in the definition of the surface
- Rebuild the surface
Now when i am selecting the surface, I see that the featureline is not a part of the surface and I do not find the contours and the TIN extending to this new boundary. Also I still find the old border in the surface.

I'm working on this model and I am trying to use the surface trim command in cad 2011, but its not working and its pissing me off. I want to use the trim and use the dome in my model as the cutting edge to cut the parts of the curved walls that fall inside the dome but it is not working. I have the file uploaded.

I am trying to trim one side of a circular surface by using a projected line that forms my trimming line. The original surface is simply a circle that is swept along a path (like a tube/cylinder). When trimming by using the projected line it wants to cut all the way through the surface (i.e. both sides of the tube/cylinder) but I only want it to cut out one side. Is there a way of allowing this or do I create two semi-circular surfaces, therefore only cutting/trimming in effect one side?

I am drawing a fan wheel. The fan blade is curved intersects the shroud, consisting of two cones. I do not know how to trim the blade to the cones. I tried to "split" the blade at the cones and then "delete face" but then the "Go to flat pattern" section on the ribbon is missing. If I suppress the "delete face" feature the "Go to flat pattern" re-appears.

I am creating my Final Grading surface with from 2 surfaces - a proposed road surface and a proposed grading surface. (Note of roads within the road surface)
The issue is that when I paste the proposed road surface (that consists of several looped sections) over the proposed grading surface, the proposed grading surface within the looped road areas dissappears.
I have tried several options using boundaries for the inner looped areas on my road surface, and has altered my order of opterations for my final surface edits, and many other things also.
I have attached an image for reference.

When importing objects into Inventor, all surface objects are being joined together into 1 composite surface. What I need is multiple surfaces, or seperate surface/composite objects.
Capture 1
Shows 3 solids imported from Rhino
Each solid is a sepreate solid
Capture 2
Shows 2 solids and 1 surface composite imported from Rhino
Capture 3
Shows 1 solid and 1 surface composite imported from Rhino
1. Why is Inventor creating 1 composite from multiple non intersecting surfaces?
2. How can I avoid this from happening?

I've been modelling in Maya for less than a day so go easy on me!
I'm in the process of making a traffic light and have got a bit stuck on the shade around the light.
I first made a profile curve and revolved it to get a kind of cup shape. The profile curve double backs on itself so the revolve is not completely flat.
Next I projected a curve onto the side of the revolve to get the wavy shape of the light shade, and trimmed the excess off.
Now I have my lovely traffic light shape, but the ends where the revolve was trimmed are not attached. (Because I double backed the profile curve)
Is there any way I can close up this gap?
(I've attached some screenshots).

I drew 2 circles with ttr command (1 and 2). The problem is when I try to trim them to remove the part I don't need, it doesn't work cause the circles 1 and 2 aren't stick with the borders as they should. At the 4 red circle points, if you zoom you'll notice they don't stick the border, never faced this problem before (usually I cut the part I don't need without problem). I've done regen/all but doesn't seem to fix that problem.

I have surface associativity set to 0 but I keep getting surface associativity errors.
It is as if turning surface associativity is either not turning off, or is left on for some entities.
How to get rid of the surface associativity for good, like purging or something like that?
It seems that if it is still in operation it is adding extra size to the drawings...

When I initiate the trim command with a double enter (i.e. select all mode), I usually first zoom into the area I want to trim so I see no other objects, then start the trim <Enter><Enter> option, then pick the lines I want to trim. Even if these extend off the screen and cross other objects (not seen on the screen), they usually trim off completely. However, on occassion they don't. To replicate the problem try this:
Draw 2 vertical lines and 2 horizontal intersecting (like noughts and crosses)Draw a horizontal line that intersects both vertical lines but up near the top of those linesZoom in so you only see the square and extending lines (but not the short horizontal line)Trim <Enter> <Enter> and pick from bottom right to top left (i.e. around the squareZoom out.
The square is trimmed, however there are 2 line fragments left above the horizontal short line.
Fix: UndoTrim the same way and presto, it now works I found if I then moved the line above (so only a small amount), zoomed in again, tried to trim - same error.

Noticed a change in the trim command between 2013 & 2014?
In 2013 (with out selecting trim all) the trim line didn't have to intersect the line you wanted to trim. We just upgraded to 2014 and I noticed that if I want to trim a line that the lines have to intersect. A line that doesn't intersect with the selected trim line will not trim.

I have attached a file that has a surface, with holes in it. I need to heal the surface, or remove the holes.
In old mechanical desktop, when you untrimed the surface, the holes would go away. Now untriming does not eliminate the holes and extending the surface inward does not work either.
This seems like it would be a common task to need to be able to do with surfaces.

1. find the attached “Rays on Oval.png” file. (Tried attaching .cdr file but the File Size is 400KB.)
2. I would like to Repeat / Duplicate that Black Color on Outer Path of Oval Shape. (Like shown in the Yellow versus Black. The Yellow is a Circle and the Black is from Star Tool)
3. I think the Best Bet would be to Link the Rays to the Outer Path of Oval Shape.
4. I need the Rays and Oval as 2 Different Objects so that I could Change the Color Scheme.

In previous autocad version that supported Lofting, i was always able to create a solid loft.
With 2013 the loft command seems to divide its abilities depending on what type of profiles are selected.
When selecting a closed polyline profile, loft produces a solid. Works fine.
When selecting a region or solid face loft produces only a surface.
The work i am trying to do at the moment involves irregular sections and/created from existing solids.
I could trace the profile and make a polyline, but each profile contains an ellipse, and you cant trace an ellipse.
Where i used to be able to select the ends of the existing solids and create a solid loft,
I now have to produce a section twice (gives you a region), loft the regions, convert the regions to surfaces (because the produced surface doesn't have and faces), union the surface and then convert to solids
Instead of 1 command there are now 6.
I tried turning of the assiciativity (surfaceassociativity 0) hoping that it had some sort of influence but to no avail.
There was no issue with 2010 and 2012 and i have just installed all 2013 products.
I have a lot of work to do and have to produce 3dsolids.

I'm working on a project, and I need to make this collection of surfaces into a single solid object. I tried using sculpt, and after a few hours of trying to find the leak, I have failed. not watertight.
Also, I need to get this thing to a cnc mill, and they keep asking me for 2d drawings, dimensions, and tolerances. I assumed the 3d file would be good enough. How to make a file ready for a cnc, and how to make 2d drawings without putting 600 measurements all over the image? Every time I try to do a 2d object, the whole thing is a mess.
