AutoCAD 2013 :: Can't Delete Holes In Surfaces
Apr 16, 2012
I have attached a file that has a surface, with holes in it. I need to heal the surface, or remove the holes.
In old mechanical desktop, when you untrimed the surface, the holes would go away. Now untriming does not eliminate the holes and extending the surface inward does not work either.
This seems like it would be a common task to need to be able to do with surfaces.

I am working in AutoCAD 2008 on a subdivision plan that has several sheet layouts. The roads in the subdivision are dimensioned and have a pavement hatch. In one of the layouts, however, we want to turn off the dimensions, but leave the hatching. When I freeze the dimensions in that viewport, the pavement hatch is left with holes wherever the dimension text had been.
Other threads had suggested going through Hatch Edit > Remove Boundary > Select all the "island" boundaries. When I select the hatch, though, no boundaries show up around the holes left by the dimension text.
Is there any way I can turn off dimensions in one layout without leaving holes in the hatch?

I have surface associativity set to 0 but I keep getting surface associativity errors.
It is as if turning surface associativity is either not turning off, or is left on for some entities.
How to get rid of the surface associativity for good, like purging or something like that?
It seems that if it is still in operation it is adding extra size to the drawings...

In previous autocad version that supported Lofting, i was always able to create a solid loft.
With 2013 the loft command seems to divide its abilities depending on what type of profiles are selected.
When selecting a closed polyline profile, loft produces a solid. Works fine.
When selecting a region or solid face loft produces only a surface.
The work i am trying to do at the moment involves irregular sections and/created from existing solids.
I could trace the profile and make a polyline, but each profile contains an ellipse, and you cant trace an ellipse.
Where i used to be able to select the ends of the existing solids and create a solid loft,
I now have to produce a section twice (gives you a region), loft the regions, convert the regions to surfaces (because the produced surface doesn't have and faces), union the surface and then convert to solids
Instead of 1 command there are now 6.
I tried turning of the assiciativity (surfaceassociativity 0) hoping that it had some sort of influence but to no avail.
There was no issue with 2010 and 2012 and i have just installed all 2013 products.
I have a lot of work to do and have to produce 3dsolids.

I m working in autoCAD'13. I have got this drawing from a client. I need to trim these surfaces to get only the outer surfaces. But since these are not intersecting at right angles, i m not able to trim these surfaces.
Please find attached a small part of the concerned drawing. The intersecting surfaces in the drawing have to be trimmed.

I imported an .obj into Max and the model has a very high poly count. So I remove edges to lower the poly count (select edge, loop, ctrl+backspace) however after awhile, when I render it, I get black holes and missing polys and it also shows in the view ports as well.
I will post an image. I have tried reset Xform and it did not work.
Here are the images
Images 1 and 2: front and left shots of the model before edits.
Image 3: deleted some edges
Image 4: rendering results.

I'm working on a project, and I need to make this collection of surfaces into a single solid object. I tried using sculpt, and after a few hours of trying to find the leak, I have failed. not watertight.
Also, I need to get this thing to a cnc mill, and they keep asking me for 2d drawings, dimensions, and tolerances. I assumed the 3d file would be good enough. How to make a file ready for a cnc, and how to make 2d drawings without putting 600 measurements all over the image? Every time I try to do a 2d object, the whole thing is a mess.

I have two cubes in two different layers so that one is red and one is blue. I want to attach these two cubes together at a surface, but keep that interface between them in the rendering (not just have them combine to form a continuous object with no interfaces).

My keyboard delete key has stopped functioning in autocad regardless of the .dwg file. Also my right click options when an object is selected is now exactly the same as if nothing were selected. I cannot double click to edit text nor double click to edit a table cell.

I incorporated an architects drawing into mine, and brought in hundreds of linetypes and text styles. Whenever I cut and paste from that drawing, the linetypes come too. If I cut and paste within the drawing, I think the linetypes multiply. It's made the drawings almost unworkable.
I can xref the file into a new drawing, and edit the x ref to make it part of the drawing, which gets rid of the linetypes, but adds a prefix to every layer, block, text style etc.

I am using layer translate to convert from one set of standards to another. I have created a translation file with all the desired settings and everything works fine, except the old layers remain in the drawing after translating. Is there a way to delete all of the old (unused) layers after translation?

Often I'll render a preview of my work in Studio and want to change the timelines of 30 or 40 different parts. Each part can have 5 or 10 snippets of timeline (the blue lines in "Animation Timeline"), so I end up holding down CTRL to select the timelines I want to delete (easier to start from scratch than sort through a mess of timelines) and I end up clicking through 200 or 300 blue lines to delete them.
Is there an easier way to clear timelines for parts? I don't want to clear all the timelines for a particular part, just up to a certain point. For example, in a 30 second video, I might want to change the speed of the parts at the 10 second mark, so I just delete everything from 0:10 to 0:30.
Attached is a picture of the blue timelines I'm talking about. Not sure what else to call them.

I`m working on this architecture project and copied some clean lines to the file from a landscape design project.
Somehow these text styles showed up to my file (more than 50 text styles from xrefs, because of their strange names, even though I don`t have any attachment). And it says that I cannot delete them cause I`m using it.
I`ve tried out everything I could imagine and read about it. It doesn`t work. Now this simple .dwg file is very heavy and with a lot of unwanted text styles. Even if I try to copy just the lines to start over another file, all the text styles go together.
Tried:
PURGE
AUDIT
RECOVER
WBLOCK
TXTMRG (not sure how to use it)
QTEXTMODE
Attached is one of the files that this happened to. As I`m working with a few attachments this happened to all of it. My default text style are "B3_1.5", "B3_2.0" and "B3_3.0". All the other are unwanted text styles.

We are using AutoCAD 2013 and our client is using Mechanical Desktop 2009 ,problem we are facing is that we are unable to see the object which they see in the same drawing by giving visible command. These unwanted objects remains even after purging the drawing and we are unable to delete at our end as we cannot see them because there is no such command like visible in AutoCAD.

I'm trying to delete a unused layer. But when I do that I get the following error (see attachment). I googled a bit and figured out that the LAYDEL command might solve my issue, but as I'm using Autocad 2013, that's not possible, as it doesn't have this command...
The block that causes the error can also be deleted, I tried with the purge command, but must be doing something wrong cause it didn't work. Oh yeah, with regard to the purge command, I see it this way (attachment 2), how can you display it in a window kind of view to get a better overview?

Everyone at the office where I work is having the same problem with AutoCAD 2014:
1. When creating a new layer state, and selecting all layers and clicking "remove from layer state" and then "okay", upon going back into the layer state, about 80% of the layers have returned and you have to select all and delete again and hit okay, and then go back in and do it again, about 7 or 8 times total before the layer state is cleared out and ready for you to add back just the desired layers. Even if you don't create a blank slate layer state to begin with, whatever layers you delete, once you hit okay and go back into the layer state, most of the ones you just deleted are back.
2. Even more of a problem is that sometimes all the already created layer states will suddenly reassimilate ALL layers in the drawing, and the above process has to be done to all existing layer states.
This takes an enormous amount of time to correct for multiple layer states, which we typically have in a drawing.

I am trying to use the WIPEOUT command to make one object that is in front of another one obscure the one behind it. I have my polyline drawn around the object in question, but I need for things to show through the object where there are holes in the object.
In my specific example, I have a tree. I need three trees in front of one another and some against a wall. I would like for the wall to show through between the branches of the tree. I would like pieces of the trees in the background to show through between the branches of the tree in the foreground. So there are multiple holes in the foreground tree because the leaves and branches are not one solid object. Is this possible?
A more simple example would be if there was an object with only one hole in it...such as a door with a window through it...could the wipeout apply to the door - but still show through the wall or scenery behind that door only where the window is.

I need to create a block (10 (x) x 10 (y) x 20 (z) ) start from (0,0,0), and then create a hole (3 units depth, radius = 0.2) at (x=2.1,y=3.3,z =20) go into the block. After that create another hole (2 units depth, radius = 0.1) at (x=10,y=6.4,z=5.5) also go into the block. I can create the block, I also use dynamic UCS to put the coordinate on the face of the block.
However, I don't know how to accurately put the base point of the "circle" on the face of the block. I can only do "Click on the face" to start the base point. This is no accurate at all. I also try to put 3D location instead. In this case, the base point is fine, but the radial direction of the circle always has error.

I'm looking to find how many holes there are in a part ( and then what their diameters are). I tried using
Dim oPartDoc As Document
Set oPartDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument
Dim oCompDef As PartComponentDefinition
Set oCompDef = oPartDoc.ComponentDefinition
MsgBox "there are " & oCompDef.Features.HoleFeatures.Count & " holes"
but this falls down if a hole feature created more than one hole at the same time.

I have an existing extrustion with holes in it. All in one sketch.
I go to add an off shoot from the existing main body in the sketcher. In that off shoot I add a circle
in the middle of the off shoot to represent a hole. So fa so good, or at least I thought. I exit the sketch mode
and my extrustion looks fine with the exception of the hole is not there. Why? Why doesn't Inventor recognise the
circle sketch as hole geometry like it does in the originally created sketch?
In Solidworks, given this same scenario, would have recogized the circle as a void and thus created a hole.
I ended up deleteing the hole out of the main sketch and doing a seperate hole cut feature. I am sure I am missing something and in the process of learning would like to know if indead I did not do this the correct way.
