3ds Max Modeling :: Importing DWG File And Loosing Smoothness
Feb 2, 2012
I have attached the original DWG file that I am trying to get into 3DS Max. When I imported it, in the Import Options box, I played with Auto Smooth and Curve Steps and it didn't seem to work.
I have two designs for labels that have to be approved by the government for type size regulations. The current size of the illustrator files are 133.3 MB and 24.7 MB I need to provide these at no larger than 450 kb AND the type must be readable and measurable for approval.
I have tried everything I can think of to provide the artwork small enough yet still retaining enough resolution to not make the type fuzzy and not able to be measured for size. I've tried making the files from within illustrator, I've tried taking everything into Photoshop to make the JPEGS with no luck. They want either a gif, jpeg or tiff no larger than 450 kb that is viewable at the print size of the label with no loss of resolution...
I am have been importing a set of igs files and one of them is not displaying in my viewport. It's the lagest file size of the bunch at 285Mb, I believe all of the files were created in Solidworks.
The process I use is: create a new blank file in Max and import the file, but when the import is completed I just get a single line displayed in the viewport(see attachment).
I have left the import running overnight and still get the same result. I also get the same result if I import in a previous version of 3DS Max 2011. I downloaded a free CAD application to see if that could open the file and it gave me a decent wire frame image of the product I was hoping for, but I could not re-save it (benefits of free software!!).
I am using 3DS Max 2013, Win 7 Pro SP1, 64-bit, 2x Intel Xeon 2.93GHz processors, 24Gb Ram with a Quadro 4000 graphics card, running Version 310.90 drivers (I have not 'manged' 3D settings though). So I am guessing this is a graphics display issue due to the size of the iges file, but any way of optimising my viewport or some free software that can convert an iges file into something more managable for Max to import?
Unfortunately I am unable to upload the iges file or an image of the wireframe model from the other free application due to the sensitivity of the content.

When I import an object with a SSS shader into my scene, it will randomly turn black and have no shader at all. If I go to hypershade and to reassign the sss shader, it has no effect. How can I import an object with SSS?
i'm new in autodesk maya's world, so i'm having some problems with it, my class is working in a 3d dragon, we started with dragon's body, but, now, we are working in its head, so i started importing images into the viewport, but i cannot move them well, because there's a kind of ghost image with them (i put two images, and there's a ghost image for each one) and when i put them in perspective view to see where i want, they often desappear, and i cannot work with them, i tried deleting history by type, and center each one's pivot, but it didn't work.
How to import an Adobe Illustrator Curves In Maya as a single object? Every time I import an .AI file into MAYA, it gets imported as multiple objects. (There is an option with 3DSMAX, while importing .AI files, i.e. * IMPORT AS SINGLE OBJECT / * IMPORT AS MULTIPLE OBJECT.)
I have a quick question about animated gif's in image ready. I have been making some gif's latley in image ready and i have noticed the animations at "no delay" are a tad choppy in their execution. How do you make them go through their movements more smoothly? Is it a different software? For example, I notice that some "smileys" execute with very little choppyness if any... whats the difference.
well i just upgraded from photoshop 7 to CS2 and of course imageready too. so i was working with imageready cs2, trying to make a gif, when i realized that the movements werent smooth like they were in 7. heres how a IR 7 gif looked when i made it:
see how its all smooth and the fading is continuous?
well heres something i made using CS2:
in the CS2 gif, the fading is like, frame-by-frame ish. how come it didnt do that when i used IR7? im using the same steps on CS2 as i did on 7.
I've been playing around with autocad rendering, I have the bowl which is revolution of a profile but it is 'ruled' looking. I changed the options in preferences to some higher numbers and regenall and everything smoothed out but the bowl. is there another setting somewhere for this? Also the spacers on the table are chrome, but are not showing the material.
At work I use mac and a wacom tablet. The lines when i use a brush are very smooth. The problem I am having is occuring on my PC at home. For some reason the brush edges are not smooth (even when i draw a staight line).
In the image attached, you can see the yellow lines done at work (using mac and wacom) and the white lines on my home PC (windows and Huion tablet).Do you think its a settings issue? My home computer has 4Gb of ram and an Nvidia graphics card.
Imagine a normal brush, say 40 in size. if i stroke a bit fast, like normally drawing, and making round shapes, arcs, it isnt really curvy as it should.....it kinda gets some steps whn i stroke really fast...this doesnt happen in other progs....is thee a way i can make a round stroke be really round?...
I save my image into jpg/gif or whatever, it tends to lose a bit of detail or rather "smoothness." The image looks very nice and smooth in PS, but whenever I save it to use on the web, It looses a bit of its smoothness. Is there some setting or technique to fix.
One thing I notice is that when I use the Bezier curve tool in GIMP, when I stroke the path, the result is a jagged messy looking line. In Photoshop however, when I stroke the path with the pen tool, the result is a much cleaner, smoother line. Is there a way to get a smoother result in Gimp like Photoshop does?
So, I'm trying to create a repeat pattern of a Balloon illustration I've done in Adobe Illustrator. I've got the singular file (balloon.ai), which weighs in at around 700MB.
Now I'm trying to create the repeat of this pattern on a separate Artboard which will repeat these balloons, 30 balloons per repeat square to be precise.
What would be the best way to import these separate balloons into the repeat square once (as they're the same file) without affecting the weight of the file and performance of Illustrator?
So, in essence, is there a way to import that balloon.ai file and only have it use up 700MB on the page rather than 30x700MB by the time I've placed 30 balloons?
I can't rasterize the files as the printer needs the raw file.
Why do I still loose colours if I copy an artwork into a new layout and close the original, I know if I select all the colours into the bar at the bottom it will keep them, but why should I.
This only became an issue in the last version and I would have thought it would have been fixed in this one.
Maybe it will come out in the next fix with all the other fixes for the dockers and flickering text again I know I can work around these things, but why should I.
When I create a shape I use the Shape from the drop down, create my shape and then using Layer Styles I create the look I want on the shape within CS6. When I have sent my file to another person who is using CS5 they cannot see my layer styles and they are lost... What is happening and how can I get them to see my layer styles?
At the moment for them to see it I am having to recreate all my shapes so they are Pixel rather than shapes? why this is happening? I have never had this problem before and I have used Photoshop for years!
I know I have an out dated version of VS, but all my videos are shot on a DV camera with 4.3 resolution. When I'm done editing I burn to a DVD using the VS program.
The quality of the DVD in not that good for some reason.I have checked all the properties and they seem to be right. But being a novice maybe the're not.If I save the file as an AVI then import it into another program (in this case Power Producer) to burn,I get a much better quality DVD.
PS. The reason Im sticking with VS 7 is that I can navigate around it fairly easily. Not saying Im confident, but enough to get by.May look into upgrading to a new version in the future with a new HD camera too.But for now VS 7 works fine for me.
I keep loosing the company logo (JPG image) on my title box when drawings are sent our to clients in DWG format, is there a way to resolve this? Currently i have moved a copy of the image into the folder containing the drawings i am working on, still have problems has it wont even copy to another drawing.
Bridge is loosing images with keywords. After purging the cache and running a search all images return. However, this does not retain the images. I have seen the images disappear while watching the screen. Subsequent searches only retains a few of the hundreds of images with the keyword.
I have also removed and re-installed Bridge to no avail. I also believe I have the latest updates?
I edit my raw files in CS5. Then I saw as JPEG, and upload to be developed. Once the pictures are uploaded they look like I never edited them at all. What am I doing wrong. This does not happen if I edit a JPEG file.
I have opengl acceleration turned on and it usually works. Problem is that sometimes a document looses it's acceleration. I'm not sure when this happens, if it is when i switch between documents or when i switch between photoshop and other applications. I can rotate my picture, but at some point when I want to rotate, I just get message that says something like document has not acceleration turned on. Other documents may be alright.
Is there some control where I can turn back on the acceleration for a specific document when it has lost it? Is there some registry hack that would disable this loosing of acceleration of some documents (except the known hack which will force the acceleration on old gpu's).
I am doing the artwork for an album I am working on and need some help resizing the cover image. As of right now the image is around 3000x3000 resolution, but it needs to fit on a 5.5"x5.0" template. I copied the image from photoshop into illustrator and used free transform to scale it to the correct size. However, the image was pixelated and unusable. So I basically want to know the best way to do it without losing quality. Also, should I add the text before or after its been resized?
I created my layout with Photoshop CS. I brought the file in Image Ready to slice it but my bright mustard/gold yellow wasn't the same anymore. It was more of a greenish yellow. I tried to bring it back in Photoshop and the colours were perfect again. When I did Save for Web, same thing happened to my colours. I never had any problems before with other layout. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
I draw 2 pipe profiles, who are crossing eachother. When i want to draw crossing pipe in one profile (IN PIPE NETWORKS), that pipe erased in the profile. What is the problem. I want to be seen crossing pipes in both profiles. In red color I draw a pipe which is missing.
