One thing I notice is that when I use the Bezier curve tool in GIMP, when I stroke the path, the result is a jagged messy looking line. In Photoshop however, when I stroke the path with the pen tool, the result is a much cleaner, smoother line. Is there a way to get a smoother result in Gimp like Photoshop does?
View 1 RepliesI have noticed that using "Stretch Contrast" gives a much more contrasty image than using the "White Balance" option. Isn't it supposed to be the other way round based on the description?
I'm using the GIMP 2.8.0 for Windows.
Also "Stretch Contrast" is very close to "Normalize" and "Normalize" does seem to shift color in exactly the same way as the "Stretch Contrast" option, although based on the description, it shouldn't.
I have a quick question about animated gif's in image ready. I have been making some gif's latley in image ready and i have noticed the animations at "no delay" are a tad choppy in their execution. How do you make them go through their movements more smoothly? Is it a different software? For example, I notice that some "smileys" execute with very little choppyness if any... whats the difference.

well heres something i made using CS2:
in the CS2 gif, the fading is like, frame-by-frame ish. how come it didnt do that when i used IR7? im using the same steps on CS2 as i did on 7.
At work I use mac and a wacom tablet. The lines when i use a brush are very smooth.The problem I am having is occuring on my PC at home. For some reason the brush edges are not smooth (even when i draw a staight line).
In the image attached, you can see the yellow lines done at work (using mac and wacom) and the white lines on my home PC (windows and Huion tablet).Do you think its a settings issue? My home computer has 4Gb of ram and an Nvidia graphics card.
I've been having problems with Photoshop CS3 lately, for some reason the image quality is always horrible when I'm working on a PSD.
As you can, see the gradient quality is HORRIBLE.
All I did was add a slightly lighter shade of gray over the background, I have dither checked, I'm using RGB mode, and I'm using 8-bits channeled..
But if I do a simple white to black gradient it turns out smooth, the bad quality gradient only happens when it's two dark colors.
Imagine a normal brush, say 40 in size. if i stroke a bit fast, like normally drawing, and making round shapes, arcs, it isnt really curvy as it should.....it kinda gets some steps whn i stroke really fast...this doesnt happen in other progs....is thee a way i can make a round stroke be really round?...

I changed the options in preferences to some higher numbers and regenall and everything smoothed out but the bowl. is there another setting somewhere for this? Also the spacers on the table are chrome, but are not showing the material.

View 4 Replies View Relatednever knew there has a font folder in the user profile for Gimp until I wiped my user profile and moved all patterns, gradients, brushes, etc I have been putting in the program folder to the user profile folder because I read on here that it is better to keep all that stuff in the user profile folder of Gimp... my question is, what is the difference between installing your fonts into the system and placing them into the fonts folder in Gimp (besides all programs being able to use them)?? I've been installing all my fonts into the system I wanna use in Gimp... is it better to use the font folder in the Gimp user profile or to install them into the system?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just recently caught up to 2.8 (From 2.4 something or other believe it or not ) and amongst a couple of things I have to say I don't like is the fact that previously when setting a path, if I wanted it to be either perfectly horizontal or vertical I could see by the steps in the path preview line whether it was or not.
With the new version, initially at least, that's no longer the case. As I tend to work with straight lines a lot of the time it's proving to be a bit of a pain. Is there any way to set the path preview line to show the steps again to indicate a straight line.
I want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."
I'm using GIMP 2.6.11. When I use the line tool and left click + shift to snap a line from point to point, there's no preview line that shows exactly where the line is going to be drawn. In former version(s) of GIMP, I could clearly see where the line was going to be placed because of this feature. I miss it because when doing technical drawings precision and exact angles are needed. Is this feature not included with GIMP 2.6.11? How I can get this tool to work like it used to?

Basically, I can't start a new document or open one or really do anything without that error popping up.
what apart from PSB's ability to handle very large files, are the advantages of one over the other? Reason I ask is the PS Autorecover file has a PSB extension, which I guess enables the feature to handle any file size. So if it is used to recover your work, why do we need to continue to have two formats. Why not just one?

The "walking ants" are always screwed up and all over the place! Also, holding down the mouse button and scrolling the track ball is very hard for my hands.

I found out that QuickLook in Mac OS X doesn't work properly for PSD documents if the file is saved without Maximize Compatibility feature. If you press space bar, only white canvas appears and not the actual document. I don't want to use this feature because I don't need the compatibility and all the files are much smaller without it. However, as I work with a lot of PSD files I am used to use QuickLook a lot. Is there a way to have maximize compatibility disabled and at the same time be able to use previews with QuickLook?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI am an archivist. We have some old, rare documents from 19th century - collections of letters, diaries etc which I want to preserve electronically. I get excellent results when I use a scanner. However some of the documents are fragile and the use of digital photography would cause less damage.
I have been investigating this for some time and have got all sorts of advice - sometimes contradictory. Now this is the issue for me at the moment: I have some test photograph files (of documents) on my computer (which I photographed with a good digital camera and saved to computer.
Improving the output, removing background etc, is my issue. To what extent can I improve the photograph using Photoshop or some other similar program. I would love to submit one or two of these photo files to you who are expert and see what you can do with them. That would give me an idea of what I need. I am not sufficiently conversant with the photoshop program to do this myself.
After a complete computer format, I was able to make cs6 work. Then I started experiencing slowdowns again. What had I installed that was not ok? Well, turns out that restoring my pc to a point right before the installation of Adobe Reader fixed everything. And I have the same problems if I go on a webpage where Flash Player is working.

As far as I know, gaussian blur is a spatial convolution filter and smart sharpen is a deconvolution filter.So I think that they should be opposite of each other when smart sharpen is at the gaussian blur mode.But we can not remove gaussian blur (applied to a JPEG) with the smart sharpen adjusted for the same radius.
