I would like to know the difference between using a mouse and tablet in matte painting, quality, style, you name it.
and why some artist can make art using a mouse at a very high quality
like using a tablet... how do they do that?
method I must use to paint/draw like that?
I am 65 yrs young and use the Lasso Tool,Polygonal and Magnetic tools with a mouse.I just cannot control the outline area definition as precise as shown in all the tutorials. The "walking ants" are always screwed up and all over the place! Also, holding down the mouse button and scrolling the track ball is very hard for my hands.
Will a Wacon tablet w/pencil provide a better manipulation of PS(CS5&6) functions for outlining areas to be modified?
I have a 21in IPS panel. I'm planning to get a Wacom Tablet. Not specially for painting but for masking things. But i have a mind to sell my Display and get a multitouch panel. There is a acer IPS multitouch panel.. My OS is win 8 pro.

Noticed that photoshop CS6 on Creative Cloud at least seems to lag when I try to move a layer around or a selection around with my mouse after I have used my tablet. So what Im trying to say is that I can move selections around with my mouse or with my tablet and they move fine but when I do anything with my tablet and the go back to my mouse thats where I get the lagging movement. If I then at that point try to move the selection with my tablet it doest lag around. As I try different things with my mouse after I have used my tablet nothing else seems to lag just moving the selection with my mouse. Any others having this issue or know what may be the cause?
View 43 Replies View RelatedI have a setup where I have a wireless mouse and a Genius MousePen 8x6 Tablet both plugged into the computer at the same time (Windows 7). I'm wondering if Photoshop recognizes one device as primary (the mouse) and ignores pressure input from the 'secondary' device (the tablet), because I'm not currently getting pressure input from a tablet that I have gotten pressure from many times before. I'm using Photoshop CS2 in this specific instance, but I'd imagine the question would apply to newer versions as well.

View 4 Replies View RelatedGraphic Designers and Photoshop hobbyists. This past weekend, I bought a graphics tablet. However, I’m having a hard time seeing the benefits in this thing. For those that have tried it or use it, what are your thoughts? Do you think it was a good investment or do you prefer the good old-fashioned mouse? I would use it mainly for photo editing.
It’s starting to get easier to control my cursor on screen, but when I tried photo editing, it was annoying. The precise control wasn’t there. For instance, a mouse is on a flat surface and when I need a precise edit, I can anchor my fingers on the table to move the mouse just that tiny bit that’s needed or just steady the mouse.
With the graphics tablet, I have to hoover the pen above the tablet and every movement in my hand, registers to the cursor on the screen and I couldn’t get the cursor to move just a miniscule amount because there was no way to fully steady the pen. I also had to keep leaning forward to access the CTRL or ALT keys on my keyboard. The other problem I had was that my wrist was actually starting to hurt. Although, that might have been due to how I was sitting, with the tablet in my lap – I don’t know.
Maybe I’m rushing to learn this and not giving myself enough time to get used to it and see the benefits, but as of right now, I like the mouse SO much better and am considering returning this tablet.
I own a Wacom tablet and I've used it for about a year now.. and now that I mostly use my Laptop, I use the wacom tablet as a mouse pad (using the mouse that comes with it). I opened up photoshop today on my laptop and I was trying to erase some things using the brush command and it didn't work.. after an hour of panic and googleing I had the idea of using the pen.. which works.
I've deleted preferences, reset tools, and everything.. but its not working. No brush commands work (Clone, Brush, Eraser, etc.) but everything else will work.
I don't get it.. Is it something with pressure maybe?
Thats the only difference between mouse and pen.. pen adds pressure sensitivity.
I can't use the pen for pixel editing as well as I can use a mouse.
tablet is good for sketching and mouse is good for pathing, but i cant use both at the same time. What can i do?I need to point out that disabling the pen doesn't work I need the pressure feature on...im using gimp 2.8 on windows 7 32bits, usng an acteck di-pen5500 tablet pen.

Now, to the point:
I'm using a WACOM Bamboo tablet and -- I need to make my core pointer use decent brushing parameters than my tablet rubber and stylus. The effect I'm seeking is to enable using my mouse pointer as a rubber with increased brush size comparing to the thin brush I'm using while drawing with the tablet. The brush size seems to be the same regardless of which tool I'm using at a time, and it stinks, because if I could use them in a decent way, my work would be way enhanced. I just need to know how to make those two mediums behave adversely.
how to turn off the mouse function when the mouse cursor moves over a feature, such as an edge, point, or surface, and highlights it. I don't want it highlighting the features automatically. I want it to highlight once I click over a feature. My colleagues and I are very distraught by this feature, and will be discontinuing our use of your products that do not allow us to turn this feature off. I'm not sure why you'd want to weed your customer base like this, assuming that I can't turn this option off from the research I've done pouring through the hundreds of complaints related to this issue. I haven't been able to find any posts recently, or regarding Inventor 2013 specificially on this issue, so I was hoping this version had the option of turning it off. Does any of Autodesk's software, such as AutoCAD, have the option of turning it off?

I try again, and I get this info below when it asks to check solution and close which only occurs when the second time I try and access anything in File or so. Basically, I can't start a new document or open one or really do anything without that error popping up.
what apart from PSB's ability to handle very large files, are the advantages of one over the other? Reason I ask is the PS Autorecover file has a PSB extension, which I guess enables the feature to handle any file size. So if it is used to recover your work, why do we need to continue to have two formats. Why not just one?

If you press space bar, only white canvas appears and not the actual document. I don't want to use this feature because I don't need the compatibility and all the files are much smaller without it. However, as I work with a lot of PSD files I am used to use QuickLook a lot. Is there a way to have maximize compatibility disabled and at the same time be able to use previews with QuickLook?

View 24 Replies View RelatedI am an archivist. We have some old, rare documents from 19th century - collections of letters, diaries etc which I want to preserve electronically. I get excellent results when I use a scanner. However some of the documents are fragile and the use of digital photography would cause less damage.
I have been investigating this for some time and have got all sorts of advice - sometimes contradictory. Now this is the issue for me at the moment: I have some test photograph files (of documents) on my computer (which I photographed with a good digital camera and saved to computer.
Improving the output, removing background etc, is my issue. To what extent can I improve the photograph using Photoshop or some other similar program. I would love to submit one or two of these photo files to you who are expert and see what you can do with them. That would give me an idea of what I need. I am not sufficiently conversant with the photoshop program to do this myself.
One thing I notice is that when I use the Bezier curve tool in GIMP, when I stroke the path, the result is a jagged messy looking line. In Photoshop however, when I stroke the path with the pen tool, the result is a much cleaner, smoother line. Is there a way to get a smoother result in Gimp like Photoshop does?

As far as I know, gaussian blur is a spatial convolution filter and smart sharpen is a deconvolution filter.So I think that they should be opposite of each other when smart sharpen is at the gaussian blur mode.But we can not remove gaussian blur (applied to a JPEG) with the smart sharpen adjusted for the same radius.

Both pictures got same square transparent hole, but sizes are so different. Using mask do not reduce size of the file PNG24. Why is like that, bug ?
When extracting a subject from one image to another using the Quick Selection Tool and Refine Edge:
1. When is it better to make a selection of the background, make a layer mask of it, invert it, load the mask and use Refine Edge VS. just making a selection of the subject and using Refine Edge?

I've installed Illustrator 10. Fine. It recognised the lack of Classic environment and installed. It runs ok. But Photoshop 7. It installed as per above. But when it attempts to load it hangs with the error, "An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a program error. Photoshop will now exit."
I have an iMac dual core Intel 3.O with 4 gigs of ram. SnowLeopard 10.6.8
I've been considering getting one of the Wacom Intuos4 or 5 small tablets to use while working in PS. From what I've read they really make editing and, just working in PS in general, much easier.
