Photoshop :: CS5 - Content Aware Scale Versus Image Size
Jun 8, 2012What is the difference between the outcome of using the new content aware scale versus just going ahead and resizing the image? Or is this a matter of preference?

View 1 RepliesURLs....I could use these almost daily and doing by hand takes ages where these specialized filters perform the given task in seconds with near perfection. But Photoshop is a bit too expensive and i never really liked GIMP for some reason. However i do like Paint.NET a lot (my primary image editor on all my systems) and would really like to see these features in Paint.NET.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy knowledge (lack of, really) with content aware scaling is that 1st you create a new layer of the background and then rescale accordingly. I did the following: -
1- Created a 2nd layer
2- used quick selection tool on my main subject ( a person) and named it.
3- deselected the selection
4- Edit menu --> Content aware scale
5- resized it to something smaller (chose my previous named selection channel).
6- Pressed "Enter"
The result is that I can now see 2 images; the smaller sitting on the larger. What now? All I want is the smaller image. If I throw away the original layer what I end up is the new layer with the white and gray default background showing as part of the image (which ends up being printed as well or if saved looking as is with the grey-white. Is what I should do the obvious--cut out via cropping the un-needed (gray-white) part?
I have used content aware with some success but today I was using it to remove power lines in front of a building with a deep blue cloudless sky in the background. When I used content aware it lightened the sky to a pale blue, no where near the original color. I sampled the existing sky with the eye dropper but no change. I have used content aware probably 25 times and have never encountered this problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWas it suppose to be in the final release of Photoshop CS6? If you go to this link
[URL]..........
It states it was on beta version of Photoshop CS6 but no one have a video of it. Or maybe it was for future release like CS6.1 or CS7. I hope Adobe can add this useful feature on final version of CS6.

this function seems to have simply stopped working. I tried it on two images and the wheel spins while it "works," but absolutely nothing happens.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried unsuccessfully to get Content Aware Fill in CS5 to work as advertised in the dozens of tutorials I have watched.CAF seems to drag in stuff from all over (even if I protect it in a mask) the background.
View 20 Replies View RelatedSeems that the latest update of Photoshop CS6 broke content aware, which now produces a black result.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI used content aware on a bag on the foreground of a picture. Worked ok, but left an outline. I got rid of that ok with healing and clone.
But some wires in sky, it's leaving an outline that is no better than the wires themselves.
My content aware feature stopped working. It worked for about 6 months and then stopped functioning correctly. I tried deleting and reloading the software, and this also did not work. I select an area to fill and choose content aware and it will only fill it partially.
I am unable to post a capture of what this looks like. Basically, when I try to utilize content fill..the result is a semi filled section. It looks as if it glazes over the selection..leaving it visible but partially filled. This happens regardless of the selection size, area of the photo etc.
Cs4 extended. "bigtiles" plug in not loaded. This is trial version, I haven't bought upgrade yet......but this feature is key for me.
Vista 32 bit, 4gb ram, 32gb available on HD
I keep getting the "can't complete because not enough RAM" message
I tried
a)converting to 8 bit file. working file size is 41mb
b)increasing amount of ram used by PS to 80%
c)removing most other processes from running.
efficiency still show up at 100% during process.
Is there a similar tool in GIMP? If there is I haven't found it yet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedDoes content-aware fill use the pixels outside the selection ... or it uses only the pixels inside the selection?
I tried it with different photos, but can not be sure how does it work?
When I specify where the replacement content should come from it looks right as I am selecting it but when I let go of the mouse it makes a reflection of the nearby objects.
View 4 Replies View Relatedhow would I go about applying content aware scaling to a video layer inside PS? Basically I'm trying to use this feature to fake an aspect ratio change where by I have a subject surrounded by a relatively uniform background and I would like to be able to create a protection mask as an alpha layer and have photoshop apply the content aware scaling only to the background(to fill in the empty parts of the rescaled video) and leave the subject untouched.
What I've done is opened a video in photoshop as a layer, created an alpha channel to represent the subject(subject is white, background is black on the created alpha channel), changed the canvas size to the new aspect ratio which obviously created a tranparent frame around the original video frame. I then tried to apply content aware scaling to the video, it converted the layer to a smart object then displayed the free transform handles. However, when I selected my alpha channel as the protection area, the content aware scaling seemed to ignore it and went on to distort the entire frame. Now I tried this with still frame from the same video with the same mask/alpha channel and it worked as expected just didn't seem to do it with video.
The idea, if it would be possible to do this in PS, is to rotoscope the subject roughly in AE and generate a matte pass which can then be used as the accompanying alpha layer of the video so then the content aware scaling can be applied to each invidividual frame.
Is this functionality available in PSE 11?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way how to sample from small area and then apply content aware fill to the much more bigger area? For example - there is an object on a table. The object fills 90% of the image and the table 10% image. Now, I just want to delete the object. But that doesnt work with content aware fill, because the area around it is much smaller.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to CS6 64 bit under Windows 7. I used content aware fill and the spot healing tool on CS5 under XP with no problems. Now under CS6 they leave a smudge. For example, if the is a spot on a vein of a leaf, now, instead of removing the spot and filling in the line of the vein I just get a smudge the size of the spot healing brush.
Content aware fill now leaves a smudged and obviously poor result.
I've got a webpage footer to edit and I don't have the .psd file so I'm trying to use content-aware to take out an unwanted part. Problem is, the background isn't one solid color and the area where I'm making the edit has a definitive color change...it's an actual line dividing the footer into two sections. So, whenever I do the content aware fill it doesn't keep that line or the colors the way they "should" be.
Is this a situation where having the .psd file is a must?

However in the Contents drop down menu there is no option for Content Aware. Have tried Google with no joy.
am in the process of setting up a standard file for all designers to use our local office. This file will have most of the styles created for profiles, alignments, surfaces, profile views, etc... as mostly specified by the customer and industry standards.
I am having trouble maintaining the correct annotation scale in the viewport in paperspace and when plotting.
The attached word document has 3 figures. Fig 1 shows the correct viewport scale and correct annotation scale. Fig 2 shows how the annotation scale abruptly changes during the plotting process. This abrupt annotation scale change sometimes happens during the regen process or when I switch from layout to model space and back to layout. The annotation scale goes from 1:1 to 1:40 just as in the viewport. This change in annotation scale is not supposed to happen because I want to preserve a certain plotting height for my text versus a viewport scale by using various annotation scales.
I have researched the procedures for annotation scale and have not found any info related to this "abrupt change in annotation scale".
Curiously , this abrupt change in annotation scale does not happen if the text does not belong to any styles within Civil 3D. Stand alone text stays at the correct annotation scale and is not affected in the same way.
When I open a new drawing in my AutoCAD 2013 that I just recently installed last week, I encounter a problem that I am not familiar with from previus versions of AutoCAD I have worked on. First of all, the units default to decimal, and I want them to default to architectural, with feet and inches. I have to type UNITS in the command line every time I open a new drawing in order to adjust this. I have AutoCAD for Architecture 2012 on another computer, and the program automatically defaults to architectural units upon opening up. Just to let you know, the program I am having this difficulty with is part of a package called Autodesk Building Design Suite 2013. I was under the impression that it included AutoCAd for Architecture, but I think it has only standard AutoCAD.
The scale of the objects I draw vs. the scale of the drawing field is very out of proportion. What I mean is, when I open a new drawing and draw a 30' -0" line, the line appears so long on the screen that I cannot see the whole object, even if I zoom out to the maximum. I should be able to see the object in it's entirety. In fact, when I draw a line that is only 12" long, even when the zoom is all the way out, the line looks huge in length. I have tried adjusting the units to the architectural/inches setting of course, and I have tried adjusting the scale in model space from 1:1 to 1/4'=1'-0", but nothing is working.
