View 3 RepliesI have no background with AutoCAD 2013, but my boss has given me the software and tasked me with taking entire floor plans of an individual floor .dwg and create smaller areas of each floor into separate, new .dwg's (like several rooms together) that then could be converted into .pdf's for sharing and/or printing. I have tried to find a simple tutorial or explaination of how to do this, but AutoCAD is such an amazing and complex tool that I'm having trouble with the terminology even.
I was right-clicking on the 'Model' tab to create a 'New Layout', right-clicking that to get to 'Page Set-Up Manager' and 'Modifying that to select 11 x 17, Landscape, and 'Adobe PDF' in the Printer dialog box. When I worked in the new Layout window sometimes I could zoom in to a section of the floorplan and then go to 'A' button in the upper left corner and select 'Print' and sometimes the resulting .PDF file would be that smaller section, and sometimes it would still just be the whole floorplan.
I am working on bringing files into Lightroom 4, most DNG files from a Canon 5D and DNG and TIFF files from a Nikon scanner. The problem I'm having is that after importing the files into the Folder in which they will all be for the catalogue, they are significantly smaller. For instance, a DNG file from a 6x9 film scan is 600MB in the original folder, then is 420MB in the new folder after being renamed and imported into Lightoom. Similarly, a 20MB DNG file from my Canon 5D is 8MB after importantion. Also, the backup of the original that is made upon importantion, remains at its larger size on my external drive. I do not believe that I have anything set in Lightroom to do this, the only setting I've touched in the import process are renaming the file, placing a backup, and adding tags. I am not doing anything in the development dialogue box. Is there a reason that these files are so much smaller? I'm worried because 30% decline in the case of scans is a lot of data, as if the 70% decline in my Canon 5D file.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis question may seem obvious to some of you but I'd like to understand this issue. I've been taking digital photos in Raw format for use in photoshop, I'd eventually like to send them in to a stock photography site and the one I'm thinking of applying to, Alamy, demands file sizes of 48MB+ per photo in TIFF. I've been uploading them from my camera onto my hard drive and they end up just short of this required file size, around 46MB. Unfortunately a 1GB flash card full of Raw images, when converted to this size, eats up a lot of memory. I don't think I can use all the images for stock photography anyway so I started looking at how I can affect file sizes under "Image"-"Image size" so I can clear up some memory and I've noticed I can play around with the image size if I change the resolution. Currently the 46MB photos are at a resolution of 2000, if I change them to 300, the resulting file size is just over 1MB, which is great because the ones I can't use, I can still store at a reduced size and clear some space on the old hard drive. But I've noticed I can take the same converted 1MB image, change the resolution to 3000 and end up with a 105MB image. OK "So what's your problem?" you might ask. Well, where's all this extra resolution coming from? I can make it go up and down as I please and I have no idea how this is even possible. Shouldn't reducing resolution from 46MB to 1MB forever reduce the quality of the image? How is it possible to go back to the original size or even increase it?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've received several scanned images from another party in .jpg format. The file sizes of some run about 100k and others about 300k.
When I looked at the image properties they were almost the same for each of them. All of them had a resolution of 96x96 and each having around 40,000 pixels (roughly 500X800 pixel images). The print sizes were all about 5.5x8.5 inches.
Why would .jpg images with similar pixel resolution and number have such different file sizes?
I want to resize an image without loosing picture quality but I'm not making it larger - I'm making it smaller. For example, there are small stars in the background which seem get deleted when I resize it.
But here's the thing - After resizing it (but before "confirming" my changes), it looks perfect. Then I hit enter and then it deletes certain details. Basically I can look at the image at the size and quality I want in PS but I can't save it that way. And it's not a matter of saving it with a higher quality level, it happens as soon as I resize. WTF?
How can I split a catalog into two smaler catalogs without loosing all the tags, albums etc? I'm using photoshop elements 11

I am tying to create a Dynamic Block of a steel angle of multiple sizes and thickness. I used Dynamic Blocks before and live the idea of changing sizes on the fly with out having to delete and recreate an object.. I got as far as creating an angle of different sizes, i.e.. 4x4, 5x5, etc. and different thickness but can't get the thickness to work with the radius of the angle.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been revising some older blocks dating back to 2003 and earlier. What was a file size of 28KB increased to 127KB! In most cases the only change was converting text to an attribute. As a test I took a 2004 file and saved it - with no changes - to another name and the file size increased from 28KB to 124KB!!! That's an increase of over 4.4 times! Many of my 1998 - 2006 files are in the 26KB - 40KB range.
That's a bit much of an increase over several ACAD versions! Is there a way to reduce the file size? I did perform a complete Purge before saving. Have I missed some clever trick?
I am running ACAD Version 2014 with SP-1.
What is the best way to keep resolution from an AutoCAD file to a JPEG. I am printing my document in PDF and from ther exporting to JPEG. Is not a better way to do it?

i have a client who needs a big image (2000x2830) resizing to 595x842 and saving to a .pdf file and still keeping its high quality resolution even when its zoomed in on.
So far i have resized the image (just using IMAGE-IMAGE SIZE and put in the numbers 595x842) but it has lost its quality when zoomed in although it does look good at 100% but i need it to look good even at 500-600%.
I have an image (1200mm x 1200mm) very sharp and crisp. (A photo that i have worked on and has lots of detail) I drag this image onto a canvas size of 150mm x150mm - and the image loses all of its sharpness. It is not apparent until i zoom in to see the detail. (PSE10) I'm sure that there is a box somewhere to tick..........but i cannot find it.
when i drag it over, it is still the large size, so i grab the grips/handles and shrink to fit, then it pixelates?
I've built a project up with several smaller project file components. It's an easier way to create a video than editing one big project.
Opening the overall project and running it on screen is not a problem. However, when I try to create a smart package of the composite project, I get a consistent error message rejecting the process because of the existence of the component vsp's.
Is there a way to avoid the error and create a smart package from a project file that has smaller component project files?
I'm trying to create a high resolution version of a low resolution texture used in a game. I've found a pattern that I think is acceptable, from a real image. Now the question is this: how can I colorize the large image to that it is as resemblant as possible to the original one? I've tryed a simple colorize, but the result is not so good...

It's all black and won't render. If there a max file resolution in Smoke? Or is it a problem with PNG files? (I tried with PSD adn it did the same).

When I try to see the size of the first object created it says that has the same size like the other objects which have other sizes (it's even obvius cause they r bigger on my screen:D).With all the other versions of Corel i didn't had those problems, but X5 does that.
I have two designs for labels that have to be approved by the government for type size regulations. The current size of the illustrator files are 133.3 MB and 24.7 MB I need to provide these at no larger than 450 kb AND the type must be readable and measurable for approval.
I have tried everything I can think of to provide the artwork small enough yet still retaining enough resolution to not make the type fuzzy and not able to be measured for size. I've tried making the files from within illustrator, I've tried taking everything into Photoshop to make the JPEGS with no luck. They want either a gif, jpeg or tiff no larger than 450 kb that is viewable at the print size of the label with no loss of resolution...

I tried to create a 2d section of a 3d dwg file (imported from Revit)
It kept giving me a message "There are no solids or surfaces that can be projected."
What is the reason of it? It's a 3d dwg file exported from Revit.
Also, can you generate a 2d section thru the xref.
In the attachment you can find a drawing of a roundabout.

I'm having some difficulty with a new issue that is occuring:I have a 3D model that I'm attempting to render. It has rendered recently with no issues. Now, this morning, I get the following error message:
Unable to create output file - Make sure destination directory is writable and that the disk is not full. Rendering aborted. The drive is only approx. 30% full. I've closed/reopened the file to no avail. Also, I've closed/restarted ACAD.It always seems that AutoCAD acts goofy whenever I have a deadline.
For my AutoCAD class we are supposed to make a dynamic block of a basic theater flat which we can then stretch into different sizes. I was able to do the vertical stretch no problem, but when it comes to the horizontal stretch, the lines do more of a move action then stretching. I have redone it several times but it still won't stretch properly.
