I sometimes press random buttons on my keyboard accidentally, so i think this might be a cause of that. I cannot individually select polies or edges (verts work fine) clicking on them does nothing and the only way to select them is box selection.
As I import an OBJ into max (using 2012, but it was the same for previous versions too) I edit the objects and as I delete some edges to refine it, it looks as if I break the object/polygon flow. Black smears appear near edges, none of the polys are black so I don't think it's a normals problem.
I have a plane and I would like to be able to use a spline to select polys on that plane. Or perhaps another method of taking a plane and selecting polygons based on a set of curves?
When opening the uv editor when I select the model polys, I have green lines running around the object. I'm guessing these are mapping seams automatically generated? but I'm not sure. I'm trying to add my own so rather than delete the green ones, I'd like to add to them.
when I select an edge for example the edges close to it are selected as well and turn yellow and the farther ones turn red and move when I move the edge I selected. I'm pretty sure this a simple problem, like a button I need to toggle, but I seriously can't find it. How do I select individual edges?
EDIT
I found out that this was cancelled by just pressing B.
There is a layer or I would like to cal it a design which is made up of several different lines. But when I try to select a single line, the whole design gets selected/highlighted instead of a particular line in the design. What is this issue and how to overcome it? Layers are confusing in Autocad
In the top image I tried to select a single string but the whole design is highlighted where as the lower image shows it before selection.
The direct selection and lasso tools keep selecting entire paths. I thought these tools were for selecting individual or small groups of anchor points so that they can be edited. I am using Illustrator CS6, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if my program is being buggy.
In PS CS 6 it used to be possible to draw a shape, like a rectangle, and then use the direct selection tool to select and move one corne of the rectangle. However, in PS CC this does not work anymore. When I try to use the direct selection tool, all anchor points remain selected and so I can't move a single point, just all of them at once. What might I be doing wrong? Did something change in the CC version?!
I've watched the 2013 new features videos, and I can't select an individual rail in a railing by selecting the railing and then tabbing to select the rail.
I have put considerable effort into keywords, dates and captions on my collection of photos.
I now want to select a subset of individual photos and create a slide show with captions, and optionally, the dates and keywords.
he only feature that looks like it may do this is Write Keyword and Properies to photos, but I can't fond any reference to this and whether it would do what I want.
I don't seem to be able to download the User Manual which might work.
how to select items on the canvas, aside for selecting each individual layer on the layers panel. have Mac os X 10.7.4, and I previously had cs5.5 on my laptop.
I was able to use the direct select tool to select mulitple items by either dragging it would select anything in the box or using shift to select multiple items. Do I have to click on every item in the layer panel to select it on the canvas? Is there a option that I have checked when it should be unchecked?
How i can select multiple edges and perform some modifications on them like moving one endpoint of them and the multiple edges react like i would do this with one single edge.
How to select exactly on the edges of the canvas ?
Lets say I create layer 1 , 640 x 480 and fill with white . Now I create a new layer, layer two, and I only want to select the whole top section (ie right from top, so the selection will be 640 wide, and lets say 50 down ? Just not sure how I can select right on the edges (i.e. on the edges of the canvas).
I know about F3 and F4, but usually when i used maya and 3ds max 2014, i could see edges when i select an object....now i cant. When i go into edge mode, i cant even see edges at all unless i blindly select them. This image i show has a box of 2 segments and i selected the middle edges....can only see what i selected in red.
i am modeling a cello.... the forward edge of the body frame is a single face. in order to bevel it, i have to select all the edges... there are lots. for reasons that surpass understanding, MAYA does not recognize the edges of a 'corner' to be an edge loop. nor will it retain the selection with a selection mode change as some apps will (ie: select face, change to 'edge select' and have all the edges selected).
is there some simple way to select ALL the edges of a face?
In any given shaded visual style, is there a way to select solids by their edges rather than the face? Ideally I would like to have X-Ray visual style turned on and be able to select objects in the background through objects in the foreground. This used to be possible in AutoCAD 2006, but I can't find any variable in AutoCAD 2011 to achieve this.
How to make the selection using the 'Path Select Tool' to auto fit the image edge to edge. The reason is that I have 9 images that have to be exactly the same size with slightly rounded corners for a website header, one for each country. Is there any way to auto fit?
In the initial part of the simulation promotional video [URL]....
the internal space of the valve is selected by first selecting faces, then selecting Part Priority and then Isolation, producing the combined total flow volume space. Despite repeating this procedure many times I find I am unable to create and isolate the required volume space. The inner surfaces of the valve are selected but when selecting Part Priority, part of the valve solid part highlights and the selected inner valve surfaces disappear.
I have managed to derived the volume space by subtracting a new derived part, however the example provided in the video suggests the process of defining the air space can be achieved a lot quicker.
For some reason I can't select the "stroke path" option with the pen tool in photoshop to add tapers to my pen tool strokes. I can only get dead lines. why is this not working?
I just installed softimage 2012 on my pc and I've been having several bug problems. I can't select faces on models. Points, edges, etc. are available but not faces. also, when I change to textured view mode, no textures appear, it always shows as shaded mode. finally, xsi always opens with the layout messed up and on robot mode.
I 'm running it on administrator mode on windows 7 x64 also I tried disabling windows desktop styles etc. I have an NVIDIA GEFORCE 9600 GS video card 8gb ram 700 gb hd
I have a model, that is attached and textured. Now say, I want to update the texture, for example giving Ryu model here, a black eye, how I would go about that?
Because every time I update the texture, the entire model's texture changes. I have added some images to see what I mean.

I imported an .obj into Max and the model has a very high poly count. So I remove edges to lower the poly count (select edge, loop, ctrl+backspace) however after awhile, when I render it, I get black holes and missing polys and it also shows in the view ports as well.
I will post an image. I have tried reset Xform and it did not work.
Here are the images
Images 1 and 2: front and left shots of the model before edits. Image 3: deleted some edges Image 4: rendering results.

I have had this problem intermittently for a few weeks since going to Inventor 2013 SP1.1. I have a part within an assembly and that part has holes created in it before assembling it with other parts. Now when I try and create a hole table in a drawing of the assembly I cannot select hole edges and the hole table is blank when trying to create it automatically from view selection. I originally thought it may be an alignment issue but I have since aligned everything correctly and it still persists. I can create the hole table if I import in just the part into the drawing but it will not allow me to create the table on the whole assembly.
I can also create the hole table if I use "centred pattern" and create cross hairs on all of the holes however it does not give me correct annotations for the holes as shown in attachment and I can manually change the annotations but seriously this should not be required. As shown in the screen shot it reads as A1 down to K1 instead of A1 to A10. .
