AutoCAD Inventor :: Creation With Select Faces And Edges
Mar 26, 2012
In the initial part of the simulation promotional video [URL]....
the internal space of the valve is selected by first selecting faces, then selecting Part Priority and then Isolation, producing the combined total flow volume space. Despite repeating this procedure many times I find I am unable to create and isolate the required volume space. The inner surfaces of the valve are selected but when selecting Part Priority, part of the valve solid part highlights and the selected inner valve surfaces disappear.
I have managed to derived the volume space by subtracting a new derived part, however the example provided in the video suggests the process of defining the air space can be achieved a lot quicker.

I just installed softimage 2012 on my pc and I've been having several bug problems. I can't select faces on models. Points, edges, etc. are available but not faces. also, when I change to textured view mode, no textures appear, it always shows as shaded mode. finally, xsi always opens with the layout messed up and on robot mode.
I 'm running it on administrator mode on windows 7 x64 also I tried disabling windows desktop styles etc.
I have an NVIDIA GEFORCE 9600 GS video card

I have seen selection filter and apply selction of faces and edges.
I want to leverage this further. In a part, is it possible to simply drag a window and have inventor select all faces?

How can I thicken/offset an entire part without having to select all the faces individually? The 'chain select' option is not good enough for selecting all faces/surfaces that meet and form an edge with no fillet.
Is there still no way of doing this in 2012?

i got Inventor recently, and i've been working on a model of a longboard just to teach myself how to use the tools in Inventor. right now i'm trying to color areas for the griptape pattern so i drew the 2D pattern and projected it onto the 3D model of the longboard. but when i tried to split the faces of the model along the projected pattern only a few of the projected lines split the faces. for other faces i kept getting these errors:
Create parting line failed Crane.ipt: Errors occurred during update Split11: Could not build this Split The attempted operation did not produce a meaningful result. Try with different inputs.

I have had this problem intermittently for a few weeks since going to Inventor 2013 SP1.1. I have a part within an assembly and that part has holes created in it before assembling it with other parts. Now when I try and create a hole table in a drawing of the assembly I cannot select hole edges and the hole table is blank when trying to create it automatically from view selection. I originally thought it may be an alignment issue but I have since aligned everything correctly and it still persists. I can create the hole table if I import in just the part into the drawing but it will not allow me to create the table on the whole assembly.
I can also create the hole table if I use "centred pattern" and create cross hairs on all of the holes however it does not give me correct annotations for the holes as shown in attachment and I can manually change the annotations but seriously this should not be required. As shown in the screen shot it reads as A1 down to K1 instead of A1 to A10. .

I was wondering if there is a way to create a group of vertices, edges or faces and somehow create a reference point or attach them to some kind of locator so they can be referenced at a later point. I want to be able to select a group of edges, model them and then move on to another task within Maya and have some kind of reference point so I can go back to the original group and not have to select them individually every time I want to work on that group of edges, faces or vertices, is this possible? I will post a picture shortly to this post so you can see an example of a specific group of edges that I would like to set a reference point or locator for.

I am using 3ds max 2014 and have not been able to select faces when using the Unwrap UVW modifier. My only choices are vertex, edge and polygon. I've tried to use flatten mapping with polygons instead of faces, but I'm not getting the results I want that way.
I've made sure that everything is converted to editable poly. I've re-imported everything to see if that changes anything, and still nothing. I'm attaching a screenshot of my unwrap uvw rollout in case that's useful.

i'm having a lot of troubles with a free rig i downloaded at creativecrash [URL]. I'll keep it short as i have quite a lot of things to explain: I animated my shot, and everything was ok. Now i have to shade/light/render my shot using vray, trying to create brand new vray materials; I started from my robot-character. Here comes the problems: - I can't select the polygon geometry(i asked the rigger, and he said the geometry were imported as references at rigging time). There are no geometry layers in reference or template, then there must be somthing else causing me the problem. I can access to the object via hypershade, i can click on the shape node and i can see the geometry selected, but then, when i try to access faces, i can't select them!in no way. This means i can't create selections for materials, and so i can't shade as i liked. I tried to selecte faces using the select by materials feature in the hypershade (as the character has some pre created basic materials)but again, i'm not free to assign materials where i want, and i just can use the pre-existing face selections and work on those, but it's not enough for me. In any given shaded visual style, is there a way to select solids by their edges rather than the face? Ideally I would like to have X-Ray visual style turned on and be able to select objects in the background through objects in the foreground. This used to be possible in AutoCAD 2006, but I can't find any variable in AutoCAD 2011 to achieve this.

I sometimes press random buttons on my keyboard accidentally, so i think this might be a cause of that. I cannot individually select polies or edges (verts work fine) clicking on them does nothing and the only way to select them is box selection.

How to select exactly on the edges of the canvas ?
Lets say I create layer 1 , 640 x 480 and fill with white . Now I create a new layer, layer two, and I only want to select the whole top section (ie right from top, so the selection will be 640 wide, and lets say 50 down ? Just not sure how I can select right on the edges (i.e. on the edges of the canvas).

When i go into edge mode, i cant even see edges at all unless i blindly select them. This image i show has a box of 2 segments and i selected the middle edges....can only see what i selected in red.

What I'd like to know is whether Maya can do accuracy.
For instance: Is it possible for me to select two edges or vertices and type in an exact distance that I would like to have between them.
Very fine accuracy is not required.

i am modeling a cello.... the forward edge of the body frame is a single face. in order to bevel it, i have to select all the edges... there are lots. for reasons that surpass understanding, MAYA does not recognize the edges of a 'corner' to be an edge loop. nor will it retain the selection with a selection mode change as some apps will (ie: select face, change to 'edge select' and have all the edges selected).
is there some simple way to select ALL the edges of a face?

I would like to compare two faces to see if they are the same face. I have three faces and a hole feature on one of the three faces. I am trying to determine what face the hole is on(top, right, left). I can get the face the hole feature was created on as:
Set oHoleFace = oHoleFeature.PlacementDefinition.Parent.Sketch.PlanarEntity
I can get the three face objects I need to check for the hole on.
Set oTopFace = oExtrudeFeatures.Item(1).Faces.Item(13)
Set oRightFace = oExtrudeFeatures.Item(1).Faces.Item(3)
Set oLeftFace = oExtrudeFeatures.Item(1).Faces.Item(12)
Can I compare faces or do I need to use vectors? I tried comparing the InternalName of the faces but this seems to fail when there is more than 1 hole center within a hole feature.

I have been looking at posts on automating pdf creation but have seen a lot with programming / VB involved but would like to avoid that if possible. I have also seen one's on batch processing but would like to do them as needed / completed.
I am trying to somewhat automate the pdf creation process. Having them save to a specific spot / folder and having them 'plot' the same view to the pdf would be very beneficial that way we don't have to select print, print to pdf, print this view with these details, save to this folder location. etc.

I have a 32 page Inventor DWG file I am trying to convert to a DXF file. Unfortunately when I do a save copy as DXF,
I get 32 individual DXF files. I would like one file with 32 different pages just like it was made in Inventor or just like it is done in Autocad where you have one drawing with the tabs at the bottom. Is this possible to accomplish in Inventor?

Is it possible to automate the creation of a DXF file when you save or check-in a part file from inventor. I have already set it up to create a DWF file to a shared folder on our network but we also export to DXF files as well for use in our machine shop. As of now the only way I know of doing it, is to open the .idw file and save it as a DXF manually. How to set this up to automatically create one on save or check-in.

Im trying to get used to using Quick Select and Refine edges to mask out objects in my photos.
It works pretty well but Im still having trouble in some spots getting the edge to be a smooth curve.
How do you get the refine edge function to allow you to modify its edge so you can have a perfectly smooth edge?
Ive tried using the Refine Radius Tool and it just doesnt smooth it out completely.

I have a problem with getting an Inventor model into Revit. It's not the import of the model that's the problem, but the way the model displays in Revit. (It displays fine in AutoCAD, 3ds max etc - just not Revit.)
Here's the part file - it's just a simple box with a couple of split-face features on it to generate a pattern.
If I take the model into Revit, I can only see the pattern if I select the object.
Deselect the object and the pattern vanishes. Here's an unselected/selected screenshot from Revit:

I am trying to put a deck layout decal onto a surface. When selecting the decal command, inventor will only allow me to select the bottom surface and not the top one where I want the decal. is this achievable.
I can do it by flipping the normal and putting on a mirrored image for my decal but that seems like a lot of work
if you create a new part with a cube, sketch onto one of the surfaces and add an image, the decal will only attach to one of the availiable 2 surfaces

how to cut or split more than one face of a surface model in one go. The only way (it seems) is to use the Trim command for every face you need to trim, whereas I want to choose the cutting tool (a plane or face) and then choose a whole lot of faces (by holding CTRL and clicking the faces) and trim them all in one go. Is this possible? I can do this in Fusion, but Fusion is way too slow on my PC compared to Inventor.
I also tried extruding a sketch through the surfaces to cut them, but it doesn't work (Inventor complains that there aren't any solids to cut).
