Photoshop :: Layer Fill Behind Objects In Other Layers?
Sep 17, 2012
Why this certain copy of Photoshop CS5 is doing this. I'll be trying to fill a layer or a selection but whenever I fill it, it never fills anything below other objects in completely unrelated layers. Is there a setting I can turn off to make sure that this doesn't happen anymore?
I have a single file with couple objects on different layers. When I copy/paste into other files, the objects seem to be grouped and layer information disappeared. Can I move around objects with layer setting as well?
Imagine a layer containing 10 squares, each square is isolated (none are touching). I need a quick way to put each of those squares on its own layer. Is there something already built in, or any plugin or action?
How do I create layers in an adjustment layer and transfer or duplicate those layers in another image ?
I need to transfer the same colour readjustment from one image to several other images ... I have been told to do this in the adjustment layer platform how ever I cannot drag or copy those layers over to the other images I have open and in need of adjustment to the same layers ...
Images shows my layout and what i've done this far
I've done a (hopefully) fairly exhaustive search, and don't see anything on how to use these things together...
Open an image as a smart object. Add a layer for cloning and healing. Maybe add a curves adjustment layer and/or a hue/sat adjustment layer. Adjust things as needed.
Decide you want to extend the background on one side. Increase the canvas on that side. Select the chunk of canvas. What process should be used to employ the content-aware fill for that new piece of canvas? I don't seem to be able to have the smart object layer selected. If I have another layer selected the fill fails saying there aren't enough opaque (?) pixels.
I've drawn some lines on a new unlocked layer. They are unconnected and of various colors. Now I need all of them to become orange (or any other color). I can do that by locking the layer's transparency and painting orange over them. However I was wondering if there is a more precise way to fill all the brushstrokes of a layer with a specific color?
Is it possible to, instead of filling a layer with a normal colour, fill a layer with a pattern you created? For instance a fire? When I draw a fire and want the layer to be filled with that, How would I do that?
And another question, seperate from the one above: is it possible to just save a shape/picture without a background? I know you can save it as a psd without the background (or at least with a transparant background) but can you als save a form (only the form) as, for instance, jpg?
I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 11. Until recently, I've had no problem with fill layers. I'd make a selection from the photo, then I'd make a layer of the selection, then I'd go to edit, fill layer, fill with background/foreground color. Then the selection only would be filled. Now, all of a sudden, I make the selection, make a layer of the selection, go to edit/fill layer/fill with background/foreground color, and the whole photo becomes filled with the fill color, and not just the selection. I'm always on the selection layer, not the background or any other layer. I've reset all the tool defaults, and I've even deleted the defaults file, but to no avail.
I'm adjusting a photographic image and am using both a filter effect and a layer style in the same layer on a Smart Object. I want to separate the two effects into two layers, so one layer has the filter effect (Nik) and one layer has the layer style (Color Overlay) (with the goal of merging/rasterizing the Nik filter effect with the Smart Object but keeping the layer style unmerged). I can make two layers and move one effect without problem, but the visual result of each effect on a separate layer is quite different from having both effects in the same layer. The Blend Mode for all my layers is Normal. Within the Color Overlay panel, the blend mode is Linear Burn.

I have several .dwg files that I use as templates. I run find and replace VBA routines on the template .dwg files, ie find $Flavor$ and replace it with "Grape", and then I save the .dwg to another directory with a new name.
These VBA routines work well for acdbText and acdbMText objects, but I have a bunch of AcdbAttributeDefinition objects in the .dwg templates as well.
After much research about the AutoCAD object model (I'm mostly a Microsoft Access VBA programmer), I have come to understand that these AcdbAttributeDefinition objects are actually "remnants" of a block that no longer exists in the drawing.
Anyway, I'd like to convert all of these orphaned AcdbAttributeDefinition objects to acdbText objects in the templates and then delete the AcdbAttributeDefinition objects. I have some code that does just that.
However, the issue that I am having with the code is that the newly created acdbText objects are not on the same layer that the original AcdbAttributeDefinition objects were on. I don't know the syntax to identify what layer the AcdbAttributeDefinition object is on or how to specify what layer on which the acdbText object is created.
how to keep the acdbText objects on the same layers as the original AcdbAttributeDefinition objects during the conversion and deletion process?
Here is the code I am using currently:
Sub AttConvert(dwg as string)Dim oDocument as AcadDocumentDim ent as AcadEntityDim aa as objectset oDocument = Documents.open(dwg) For Each ent In oDocument.ModelSpace If ent.ObjectName = "AcDbAttributeDefinition" Then' DO SOMETHING TO IDENTIFY WHAT LAYER THE ACDBATTRIBUTEDEFINITION OBJECT IS ON ' DO SOMETHING TO SPECIFY THAT THAT IS THE LAYER TO CREATE THE ACDBTEXT OBJECT ON Set aa = ThisDrawing.ModelSpace.AddText(ent.TagString, ent.InsertionPoint, ent.Height) End If Next ent For Each ent In ThisDrawing.ModelSpace If ent.ObjectName = "AcDbAttributeDefinition" Then ent.Delete End If Next ent End Sub
I'm having technical issues with Photoshop CC, it is displaying solid fill layers as transparent, even though they are showing up correctly as solid fill layers in the layers panel.
I often need to remove larger objects like this AC grille sitting on a plain coloured wall:
The brightness of the wall varies over the affected area. There are subtle gradients in both horizontal and vertical direction, so a flat colour fill doesn't work. Content-aware fill produces an unusable patchwork of bits randomly picked up from the surroundings.
So most of the time I've ended up by filling the areas with a flat colour and then using the patch tool repeatedly on smaller overlapping areas to smoothen things.
I'd want an automated way to create a non-linear gradient to match the areas adjacent to the selection.
I find that the color fill vector mask previews within the layers panel are not as useful as they were in CS5. Having the vector path along side the color swatch worked better.
I'm having a problem with a logo I made which has a section of it that appears to be black fill with black stroke. However when I click on it and it shows the shape in that little preview box on the right panel, it appears grey. Then when I save it and open it in photoshop, the problem section is grey or transparent fill with black stroke. I can't seem to figure out why its doing this. There is no opacity on the object and it's clearly black in the colour settings. It used to be a gradient and I made it into a compound path to combine it with other sections but I released that and make it all solid color.
I have a bunch of objects on a particular layer, and they're all different colors and linetypes and lineweights, and i want them to all take on the color / linetype / lineweight that i chose for that layer.. how do i do this?
Say I have 2 items, one is on layer "M-Duct" and the other on "M-Pipe" (they are in the same drawing). Any lisp routine that would create the layers "M-Duct-New" and "M-Pipe-New" (based on the same color and LT as the original layers) and then move those objects to the newly created layers?
I just installed photoshop CC and wanted to continue working on my old photoshop files (which I previously edited with photoshop CS3 and photoshop 7). I use a lot of fill layers to color my drawings because they are easier to edit later. Things is, in photoshop CC all my fill layers, news ones and the old ones, are locked. I cannot paint on them when I previously could. There would be an error message asking me to rasterize it (which I don't want to, because it would make it hard to edit next time), and also a second message of "Content On The Layer Is Not Directly Editable".Is there an option I can select to allow painting on Fill Layer and Adjustment layers again?
I don't need anything too complicated, so I just added a solid color fill layer and erased everything that wasn't that particular color. However, I erased a bit too much, and instead of adding another fill layer for this one little part, is it possible for me to draw into the layer to add the color back?
I tried taking a black brush and painting into the layer, but nothing happened.
In all my previous programs I have managed to change the default to no fill effect in a vector shape, the default in X6 is a fill effect even though there is no colour so as long as the shape is on top you can click anywhere and it is picked. I can't find where to change this to empty space.
I am sure it must be in front of me but I just can't find it!
I have a vector shape with a gradient fill. I then gave it a gradient stroke as well, but I wanted to edit the stroke separately so I expanded the stroke from the fill. Now I have 2 objects; my shape and the separate stroke as it's own shape. This seemed necessary to be able to use the gradient tool on the stroke to manually move the gradient.
Now, I would like to merge these back into one layer, so when I go to edit the points to all move in one direction, they all move together without going all wonky.
Is this possible? Or have a screwed myself over by expanding the object?
I don't like the radius of the gradient fill of my shape layer in Photoshop. I cannot find any hints about how to expand the gradient fill to cover a different area inside of the shape layer.
How can I transform gradient fills of vectors shapes in PS?
