Photoshop :: Color Fill Vector Mask Thumbnails In Layers Panel
Jul 2, 2012
I find that the color fill vector mask previews within the layers panel are not as useful as they were in CS5. Having the vector path along side the color swatch worked better.
How to get my shape outline back? Adjusting the panel preferences has no effect. Really obnoxious bug, since obviously I can't even see my shape until I select it (and even then, it's pretty hard to find).
I create a fill adjustment layer. I create a vector shape and apply it as a mask.I have the mask selected, now I draw more on that layer and it continues to draw.
What actually happens:
create fill adjustment layer - Hey, starting off strong create a vectore shape and apply it as a mask under Layer>vectore mask>current path - different icon, but it seems correct..I select the path under the Paths tab, since the vector mask doesn't show u next to the layer icon, and attempt to draw more shapes -here's where it goes wrong. Instead of drawing on the path layer I have selected a work path layer is created.
I can't actually figure out how to draw on the existing path. If you select the paths from the work path, you can copy and paste them into the actual color fill shape path layer. That works. Now try the same thing with a different layer. Oh....NOW it works. It actually seems to work with all the other adjustment layers. It just doesn't work with fill.
What I think is happening: Some smarty pants realized that there doesn't really have to be a difference between a shape layer and a fill with a vector mask on it. Yeah, that's true, but you're limiting me to 1 single object on that layer now.
I am using Adobe Illustrator CS6 Classroom in a Book which refers to 'Fill color in the Control panel' without explaining what exactly it is. Googling "Fill color" returned an image of a label 'fill' but my Illustrator CS6 has no such thing. Instead, it shows a couple of pull-downs when the Selection tool is selected. what Fill color is on this Control panel.
I've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.
I am a newbie to Xara and I have Xara web designer 7 premium.I watched the video tutorial which is very useful, but when I tried to use some of the video lessons I could not find a "Panel Fill" option in the color editor, how I can access it ??
I've been having this problem since Photoshop 3.0. In the event my current version of Photoshop saved preview thumbnails, and my OS would display them, there would often be portions of the image missing. I noticed that there was usually a mask or channel matching the missing portion, and deduced that Photoshop was arbitrarily masking the preview, making them useless even in the cases where I could see them.
Don't bother responding with "Adobe does not support thumbnails" or something similar. Any work around that does not involve deleting all masks and channels "just in case" one of them randomly spikes the thumbnail. As mentioned, it seems to occur randomly; I have hundreds of tiles with scores of masks and channels that produced clear thumbnails. Perhaps one in twenty grabs a random alpha channel and obscures the preview. I'm getting tired of wasting HD space saving a PNG clone with every PSD to save myself the hassle of opening up dozens of PSD files to find the one I need to work on.
I have CS5. The bugs and broken features in AICS6, make it unusable in my workflow.
I am specifically concerned about the inability to drag global color swatches from the color panel to Gradient stops in the Gradient Panel. I use this method to update a gradient color because I find it MUCH faster than option-dragging to duplicate a stop color, then deleting the unused stop. Since I do this constantly, I find using CS6 very tedious.
I would like to increase the font size in many text layers at a time by selecting them in the layers panel. The font increases, but the text boxes don't expand to fit the increased size text. So I am having to make each box bigger manually. Is there a way to have the boxes expand to fit bigger text automatically through the layers panel?
i'll be using photoshop overlaying pictures on top of each other. when i go to use a vector mask and the brush tool, the cursor will not be the circle that indicates the size of the brush. instead it is more like the cursor for the marquee tool. and since i dont have the circle indicating the size of the brush, it takes a LOT longer to do the minute touching up of the vector masking.
How do I get it so that when I draw a shape it will fill with color? In my options bar there is a rectangle with color where I can choose that, but sometimes that's not up. How do I pull it up?
How do I fill a canvas with color without having to cover it with a large rectangle to fill? I've gotten answers to this but none has solved the problem.
Until CS6, I would routinely toss in a random vector shape and would then drag it's vector mask thumbnail, in the Layers Panel, to the trashcan icon, which left me with a wonderful color-filled, maskless, vector layer that had a Layers Panel color swatch thumbnail I could easily and oh so quickly double-click to change it's floodfill.
Not so in CS6, no vector mask thumbnails anymore (yes, due to the update to overall Layers mechanics). Is a floodfilled layer still possible in CS6?
I have been reading about Vector Mask here: URL....but i am still having trouble getting things to work...i get it that i am still having trouble w/the concept but at least i'm not giving up..so, i have a BG layer > New Layer on which i have drawn a Circle and applied some Layer Styles
next, i would like to apply a Vector Mask and then Duplicate the layer and select the Vector Mask ThumbNail in the Duplicated layer so that i can use the Pen tool set to Intersect Shape Area so that i can draw a shape w/the Pen that'll create a "Glossy Effect"
i'm trying to follow to learn more about Vector Mask: URL....here's the section where i am stuck due to a lack of complete instructions and my knowledge/ understanding. how the lesson shows a Vector Mask on the Shape 1 layer and the Duplicate/Copy layer? well, no matter what i try i cannot get a Vector Mask applied in the same way.
when i go to Layer > Vector Mask it is grayed out. ??
how to use/make a Vector Mask but nothing i've read has worked out. i read on another site w/info about Vector Mask that if it is grayed out that i just need to Duplicate the layer but when i do this it is still unavailable.
i've tried using a Layer Mask too to no avail..how do i make the Vector Mask available?
I created a vector mask, selected the area I wanted to work with, previewed it as I was refining my shape. It was all fine. However, I am not sure what I did that now both the inside and outside of the shape are greyed out and I can no longer see my vector mask as I orignally saw it. I am not sure if there is something I can do to have my vector mask again.
When I try to use the pen tool it automaticly makes a vector mask for the pen line. How do you disable that? Also, what can you do with the vector mask?
You can apply a mask to smart filters, but I can't find a way to apply a vector mask to smart filters. As a workaround I make a selection from a path and make a filter mask from that selection. That works just fine, but I'm still wondering if it's possible to apply the vector mask directly to the smart filter.
The ways you apply vector masks in CS6 is different than in CS5. I knew how to apply a vector mask to a folder of layers in CS5. I cannot figure out how to do it in CS6.
So my question is: How do you apply a vector mask to a folder in Photoshop CS6?
And while we're at it, what are the best methods for applying vector masks to regular layers?
For several months I have had random shapes appear in my files when using vector masks. The scrambled imagery only appears at random and at certain zooms (over 25%) and will disappear upon restart of Photoshop. If I flatten the file, it will retain the scrambled imagery, but otherwise it seems to not actually corrupt the data, just the view on screen. I've been fighting this for months and have replaced drives, video cards, and it still persists.
Anyone know of a way to subtract text from an existing vector mask? I currently have a solid area of vector mask, and I want to make letter-shaped transparencies in it...
