View 1 RepliesWhen converting a vector or Illustrator file (such as a logo) into a shape layer any gradient fill is lost. Is there no way to ensure the gradient fill is converted across or is this a matter for a future release of After Effects?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI cannot find how to fill a vector shape. When I mouse over the vector mask thumbnail in the layer's pallette I only get three options, if I right click I only get blending options.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been working on converting a vector into a shape and am having no luck. I've done this before and have had no problems. I import my vector .ai into AE as a comp (sequence tickbox not selected). Once I've got it in, I drag to the project, then click layer > create shape from vector layer. My shape populates at the top, my .ai file is off and what is just one of the three colors, along with the shap. I've checked the the shape's contents, every group has the correct fill with the correct blending mode. Also, I've tested other logos with the same results--one color displays while the others don't. I'm working with "ray-traced render engine" And, I've reset my preferences.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI create a fill adjustment layer. I create a vector shape and apply it as a mask.I have the mask selected, now I draw more on that layer and it continues to draw.
What actually happens:
create fill adjustment layer - Hey, starting off strong create a vectore shape and apply it as a mask under Layer>vectore mask>current path - different icon, but it seems correct..I select the path under the Paths tab, since the vector mask doesn't show u next to the layer icon, and attempt to draw more shapes -here's where it goes wrong. Instead of drawing on the path layer I have selected a work path layer is created.
I can't actually figure out how to draw on the existing path. If you select the paths from the work path, you can copy and paste them into the actual color fill shape path layer. That works. Now try the same thing with a different layer. Oh....NOW it works. It actually seems to work with all the other adjustment layers. It just doesn't work with fill.
What I think is happening: Some smarty pants realized that there doesn't really have to be a difference between a shape layer and a fill with a vector mask on it. Yeah, that's true, but you're limiting me to 1 single object on that layer now.
When I put a vector shape over a background color the color of the vector changes, how can I ensure I keep the original colors?
At the moment my background is grey and when I put a lime green vector in front it's turns it to a dark green.
I'm using CS6
I find that the color fill vector mask previews within the layers panel are not as useful as they were in CS5. Having the vector path along side the color swatch worked better.

I would like to create a wavy line (the zigzag feature is not exactly what I need here) to outline a shape and then fill it with a solid color.
This is approx what I want; however the undulation needs to be more round and less peaked.
Is this possible? I'm in Windows, Photoshop 7.0. I also have a pretty early version of Illustrator, not sure which one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to make a vector shape from a path. Is there a way to bypass having to define a new custom shape? I just want to quickly add the vector shape to a new layer, but I don't need it defined as it'll just be used once.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to fill a shape with a gradient fill so it goes up to all edges and gradually get darker/lighter inwards? For example, If I have a star shape, can I have a gradient fill in the shape of a 'star'?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHow do I get it so that when I draw a shape it will fill with color? In my options bar there is a rectangle with color where I can choose that, but sometimes that's not up. How do I pull it up?
How do I fill a canvas with color without having to cover it with a large rectangle to fill? I've gotten answers to this but none has solved the problem.
In Corel PhotoPaint X5, changing the fill color was possible by e.g. double clicking the (left-most) color square, then hitting Edit. Already, I found this was a bit too many clicks. Now in Corel PhotoPaint X6 it's gotten worse -- after hitting Edit, I'm not in the left-most tab "Models", but in the right tab "Palettes"!
My question: Is there any way I can open the Uniform Fill dialog with one click? (The Color Docker doesn't have a big color preview field so it doesn't work well for me when selecting and changing a color.) And is there any chance Corel will fix the bug with the wrong tab being opened?
I traced an image earlier, expanded it then wanted to change the line colour. For some reason I couldn't get this to work even though I've done it in the past. So, I used the magic wand to select the line then dragged it into my new document and changed the line colour.
Now, I want to change the fill on certain sections, however when I change the stroke it changes the colour of the line and when I change the fill it changes the color of the line.
What I'm wanting to do is be able to draw a vector object and use it as a pattern fill.
I need to be able to node edit the created pattern. I'd also like (the option) to be able to scale the destination object, and the pattern scales with it.
I figure it be much easier to use/create a fill pattern then duplicate all day long. Now (as example) there is the built-in "Star Shapes" pattern which is a black filled star.
I need to be able to change that to a a red hairline stroke, no fill pattern as example.
In all my previous programs I have managed to change the default to no fill effect in a vector shape, the default in X6 is a fill effect even though there is no colour so as long as the shape is on top you can click anywhere and it is picked. I can't find where to change this to empty space.
I am sure it must be in front of me but I just can't find it!
I'm using Photoshop CC and I can't remove, disable or rasterize a vector mask that is applied to a fill or gradient layer.
Am I missing something?
I have two layers on the bottom I have text, and on the top I have a shape.
How do I make the shape transparent so the shape may be filled with the background color?
I made a vector shape of an arrow (see below) and then rasterized the layer.
Then I double-clicked the layer and gave the grey shape a 1px black stroke outline. Only after hitting OK, the 1px black stroke shows up as a thick, grey stroke.
2 numpty questions for DPX
1. Is it possible to add more than one fill to the same shape i.e two elliptical fills to a shape.
2. When you add the shapes together how do you maintain the fills in each shape - I have 3 shapes that i have 'played with' all with one fill (so far !) when i add the shapes together they combine to form a single shape but with only one fill
I have been using the pen tool for more than 2 years already, but when I started using CS6, I have lots of difficulties using the pen tool. I use the pen tool for vector portraits and I need to use opacity 8 for every vector.
But when I add another shape on top of it, it gets back to 100% opacity, so I have to change it to opacity 10 again. This has caused me to spend a lot of time on something else than trying to make my work quick and fast.
Is there any way to "simplify" an existing vector shape layer by somehow "averaging out" curves to remove as much of the unnecessary anchors as possible?
For instance, a simple sphere can be just 4 anchors. The one I'm working with has 100 anchors. The vast majority of them are useless, and only make the shape look uneven upon close (zoom-in) inspection. If there was an option, perhaps one with a slider ever, that allowed me to "simplify" this vector shape by removing anchors and adjusting angles to compensate .
When i draw a vector shape using the shape tool and then resize it, it becomes distorted and pixelated as though it has been trandformed into a bitmap image.
Any ideas why it's doing that? Is there any options i need to change. It's never done it before.
Also, when i start a new document and draw a new shape it merges it to the background layer instead of creating a new layer automatically which it used to do.
I have a question about the layers I created in photoshop and I would like to open as a vector in illustrator.
The layers in photoshop as a smart object are done in pen tool.
The question is a little confusing, but what I'd really like is to take an art that I created in photoshop pro after effects, as a vector. Only when I open the AE, rasterize all layers and can not work by increasing the elements.
Hence I wonder if I can bring all these elements created in Photoshop vector shape in Illustrator pro.Without me having to "redo" everything in illustrator.
As you can see by the screenshots, this logo is vector and shows up perfectly in PHotoshop. (it was created in Photoshop and is a layered Vector PDF). I bring it into AI, though and the top portion of the talking heads disappear. Though their shape oultines remain. A grey box shows up when I click a lot. I am really a photoshop gal, so all this Illustrator stuff is foreign to me. I'm thinking the grey box is containing my art and only showing what falls within it? How to expand it or remove it so that all my logo will show up in AI?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to Extrude my logo in After Effects CS6 to appear 3D. My understanding is I need to import an Illustrator file (.AI) in order to "Creat Shapes from Vector Layer". I'm having trouble opening a .PSD and then saving it as an .AI. The file is empty when I open it in After Effects.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing CS6 for web mock ups - so lots of vector shapes. And now there are 2 ways to do a stroke, 2 ways to do a fill - in the bar at the top or the old effects dialogue box, but gradients and shadows etc are still just in the old dialogue box, not in the top bar.
Is it me or is this incredibly bad app development? Bolt on some new functionality and don't bother about the old stuff so it just becomes one big mess.Starting to use Sketch now, and really hoping they keep working on it so it makes PS redundant -
