The ways you apply vector masks in CS6 is different than in CS5. I knew how to apply a vector mask to a folder of layers in CS5. I cannot figure out how to do it in CS6.
So my question is: How do you apply a vector mask to a folder in Photoshop CS6?
And while we're at it, what are the best methods for applying vector masks to regular layers?
Can I load a selection and use that to paint on the mask somehow?

For example, I have a layer which I've then applied a stroke layer effect to. How can I mask parts of the stroke without affecting the original layer?
If I have a number of layers in a folder and want to say...blur them all....
can I apply the blur to the folder?
There's a new feature where you can opt to drag a layer mask to the trash and NOT be prompted to "apply layer mask?". This also has the "do not show again" option -which I clicked by accident. So the default is now to apply layer mask when I drag a layer mask to the trash. I can't think of any way to restore the more traditional function, without restoring all other prefs.
So what I would like is a way to restore the more classic default where dragging a layer mask to trash give me the OPTION to apply or discard.
i'll be using photoshop overlaying pictures on top of each other. when i go to use a vector mask and the brush tool, the cursor will not be the circle that indicates the size of the brush. instead it is more like the cursor for the marquee tool. and since i dont have the circle indicating the size of the brush, it takes a LOT longer to do the minute touching up of the vector masking.

View 7 Replies View RelatedUntil CS6, I would routinely toss in a random vector shape and would then drag it's vector mask thumbnail, in the Layers Panel, to the trashcan icon, which left me with a wonderful color-filled, maskless, vector layer that had a Layers Panel color swatch thumbnail I could easily and oh so quickly double-click to change it's floodfill.

However, I am not sure what I did that now both the inside and outside of the shape are greyed out and I can no longer see my vector mask as I orignally saw it. Mask by itself are exist, working and seems allright, besides it isn't have visible curves and points.
I am making selections of models off of a white background. I use the quick select tool and refine to make a clean selection. I go in and use the clone tool to remove the "halo" that is still there to make a super clean selection with no light bleed on the model. I put a black layer underneath to make sure that I got all of the remnants. I save the selection and turn it into a channel. I apply the layer mask and everything looks good. I flatten the image and put it on a white background (this is the desired form of delivery for client) Image saved and closed. When reopened, I make a selection using the channel and there is a distinct halo effect still present. I have tried making the selection and going over it a couple times with the brush at 100% and it works a little bit, but not entirely. I have already spent a lot of time going through cloning things out so it looks good, delivering the images, then they are sent back because of the halo.

This is especially interesting for if I want to move pattern overlay or something else.
For several months I have had random shapes appear in my files when using vector masks. The scrambled imagery only appears at random and at certain zooms (over 25%) and will disappear upon restart of Photoshop. If I flatten the file, it will retain the scrambled imagery, but otherwise it seems to not actually corrupt the data, just the view on screen. I've been fighting this for months and have replaced drives, video cards, and it still persists.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Photoshop CS2 and I am trying to "fix" a photo. I'm using a tutorial,and it worked on a previous photo but seems to have quit on me. I made a new layer from the original layer, used filter> other> high pass (set to 3.5) then image> adjustments>desaturate. Inverted the layer added a vector mask and inverted that as well. I set the blending mode to overlay, and the foreground color to white.

Maybe it's because I have a mind-dulling headache today, but I'm just not seeing the way to either create an inverted vector mask or invert an existing one.
For example, in the following layer stack, I'd like the vector mask on the group to create a transparent hole in the image, rather than make the outer part of the image transparent. Note that the [Invert] button in the Properties panel is unavailable (grayed-out).
If I could have created the vector mask in the first place using the rectangle tool, but inverted, that would have been okay as well, but somehow the sequence to do that escaped me as well. I know how to do this with a selection, but I'd rather keep it in vector land.
I created the path, but for some reason it's 'reversed' or 'inverted' from what I want - is there any way to change it so the spinach is cropped properly?
