Photoshop :: Creating Realistic Glass Objects
Sep 5, 2007
I'm trying to create some realistic glass tube-like objects, but I can't seem to get it right. but the main problem i've run into is that if the background is clouds,or something that doesn't have a lot of definition and color variation, it really looks nothing like glass.

I am at the following page:
Photoshopgurus Photoshop Tutorials - Realistic Glass and Plastic Pill Buttons Tutorial (part 1/4)
What should I do first?
"Ok lets start by creating a New Document (Ctrl/Cmd+n). The dimensions will be 300x200 pixels, and with a White Background." OR
"Step 1
Create a new temporary document. Make it 1 pixel by 1 pixel, and with the default white background"
If this is Step 1, then how do I create this "temporary document. Make it 1 pixel by 1 pixel" ?

Any way to put a detailed patten into my glass window.
I have created glass with the slate material editor, used specular 100, glossiness 80 in the Blinn dropdown. Ued mental ray. Looks good, very glassy. Now I want to put a pattern on the glass, like a silouette, only that it is also translucent, part of the glass, as though it was an "etched glass" pattern on the glass. Do i make the pattern into some kind of "mask"? and lay it over existing glass?

converting an object into glass. For example, if I had a digital photo of my head, I want to be able to convert it into what appears to be a solid glass (or ice) sculpture (semitransparent).

taking pictures of glass objects.
I have an Olympus 800 digital camera and I need to take various pictures to laboratory glassware (test tubes, boiling flask, etc). I tried to take pictures but they come out not too good (background).
Is there a how to or should I look for a set up in the camera that it will let me take better pictures of glass objects?

I'm looking for a more realistic way of creating grout. Basically what I have is an underlying seamless texture with a 2px grid sitting on top (pillow emboss)...it's just not realistic enough though. I'd really like to find a way to add some jaggedness to it so the edges aren't so perfect. I've tried the distort/ripple filter, but that really didn't look good...it kept the corners sharp. I also thought the Custom Shape Tool may work if it was one long squiggled line tiled into a grid, but that won't necessarily look great either since the tile's corners won't be rounded.
I'm looking for a quick workflow if possible, as the tile size may vary (6x6, 8x8, 12x12, etc.).

How I could create a magnifying glass graphic using Adobe Photoshop? I did do a search but it mostly came up with instructions or info on how to create one that'll also actually have a "magnifying" or "glassy" look to it.
While just I want to create a simple one, just containing a circle and an handle attached to it. Kinda like the following:

And in case you're wondering why I don't use the above, I'd like to create one with my own colors.

I have an image that is going to serve as an online ad. I would like to have it look like a glass button like so many online ads do these days. However, most tutorials out there give instructions for how to do it with only text over the button. How would I do it if it's got three different sections to it? A photo on the top half and two colors on the left and right on the bottom?

how to use GIS maps, and LIDAR (etc) information to create terrain, and man-made features within Max2012/3.
I have a long history using MAX but not importing this kind of data, with any success.
Generally, I know that Global Mapper is the good source for hirez imagery based on geospatial coordinates. Not sure how to use GM, but I bet they have tutorials. Mapping GM data onto a Max mesh is possible.
But when it comes to creating realistic terrain from DEM, or Lidar data, I'm not sure where to start.

I know that I can just manually move the vertices around or use FFD (4X4X4). So far the two previous methods seem to be the best but I want it to be a little more natural and not manually dented by the hand of man. I'm working on a few sort of apocalyptic designs, buildings put together by corrugated dented metal and such.

So I can do a reflection in Corel fine, as long as the bottom edge is straight and flat. I work for a beer distributor, and I want to know how I can reflect some of the packages realistically. The angles are strange, so if you just mirror it down it looks funny. Check out this picture:
I want it to look like the bottom one, but ya know, upside down. If I just mirror it it looks like the middle one.

Was wondering if there are some ways in converting a highly realistic rendering of an object generated in a 3D program into a more illustrative, simplified, alittle less realistic version in Photoshop?
The object has plenty of silver reflections, HDRI environment map reflections, precise shadows and highlights, etc. I just want to make it look more generic and not as polished I guess.
Are there filters or plugins that will do this in a plug in play method or is it more prodedural and manual?

I downloaded a .psd file that is a catalog mockup. The document contains a smart object that looks like a catalog lying on a table top and I want to take my catalog art and place it in this smart object so that it looks like I've taken a nice photograph of my design work. That is the easy part!
What I want to do now is duplicate that smart object, put it underneath the original so it is peeking out and tilt it a bit. Then I want to put the back side of the catalog art on it so that it now looks like I've got both the front and back showing. Only problem I keep running into is that now when I click on the 2nd, duplicated smart object and put the different art (back of catalog) on it, it updates the original, first smart object that I want to show the front of the catalog.
Basically I want the two smart objects to not link and update each other when they are in the same document. I can't find anything online so far and am running out of time. I even tried calling Adobe and that WAS A MESS.

I have drawn a shape as you will see in the attached. The white 'arches' are not there as objects in their own right, they are as a result of the orange objects and the yellow ring.
I will be passing this to a laser engraving machine and need to cut-out each object seen in its own right, including the 'arches'. Clearly in a normal printer I could just put a coloured circle behind the other objects but on a laser I need the actual shape.
I don't want to manually try to fit a bezier as the cut-out parts need to be a perfect fit as it is going to be an inlay. Each colour will be a different type of wood. Is there a macro tool that would do it?

One is four lines that formed a square and another is the formed square region.
How do I switch the mode back to the AutoCAD classis, which when I create a region, then there only available one object, that is, the formed region.
