Illustrator :: Creating Realistic Shadow Of Irregular Object
Sep 18, 2013
I'm working on an illustration of headphones and I need to make it look as thought the wire coming out of the headphones is sitting on a table and the light source is above and casting the shadow slightly to the left.I did the below test but it looks more like you are looking at the wire from an x/y axis.
I have a little problem that caused my project to be stoped ,
I need to make a realistic shadow for a strip (for adresse in a business card) just like this one pointed in this image below : so the white strip looks like it pass underneath the green one
retouching of product photos.I have some furnitures photos and I need white background and realistic shadow, but I dont know how to create it in photoshop. Real shadow is no good and I need to replace it.
i have my characters merged in location with camera but i need to render character and locations separately and merge them together in some composing software. so how to get the realistic shadow of the character in a separate sequence?? so that i can merge all three of them(character, location and shadow).
When I turn on shadow or realistic mode in 3ds max my model disappears, but it will show in wireframe. How can I fix this? to see it in realistic I have to render it and it comes out fine.
I have an object with a drop shadow. I want to rotate the object and the drop shadow 90 degrees. But when I rotate the object, the drop shadow does not rotate along with the object.
How to lock the drop shadow so that it will rotate with the object. p.s. I already know how to change the angle of the drop shadow.
I've threads about mirroring objects, but only applicable to objects that are viewed in front, what if the objects are viewed from an angle, like if the object is skewed?
Many times I see that these types of irregular shapes which comprise of spline curve are created with very less or no dimensions, so I want to know how this spline curve was created and can be controlled, if I want to create it in an exact manner what dimension I should use ?
I cant get rounded shape in the irregular form attached. When I have one straight line edge its ok, but when have many edges in an irregular 3d shape it gives me an error message.
Wanted to do the same thing in the yellow pointers that I did in the black one.
i am trying to create a drop shadow on text. i select the text and then copy and then paste in back. however, the copy shows up way above the text and not behind it. what am i doing wrong?
So I can't find anywhere on the internet on how to create realistic claw marks? I've been learning things based off tutorials and can't seem how to go about this one. Any Suggestions?
I'm trying to create some realistic glass tube-like objects, but I can't seem to get it right. but the main problem i've run into is that if the background is clouds,or something that doesn't have a lot of definition and color variation, it really looks nothing like glass.
how to use GIS maps, and LIDAR (etc) information to create terrain, and man-made features within Max2012/3.
I have a long history using MAX but not importing this kind of data, with any success.
Generally, I know that Global Mapper is the good source for hirez imagery based on geospatial coordinates. Not sure how to use GM, but I bet they have tutorials. Mapping GM data onto a Max mesh is possible.
But when it comes to creating realistic terrain from DEM, or Lidar data, I'm not sure where to start.
I'm looking for a more realistic way of creating grout. Basically what I have is an underlying seamless texture with a 2px grid sitting on top (pillow emboss)...it's just not realistic enough though. I'd really like to find a way to add some jaggedness to it so the edges aren't so perfect. I've tried the distort/ripple filter, but that really didn't look good...it kept the corners sharp. I also thought the Custom Shape Tool may work if it was one long squiggled line tiled into a grid, but that won't necessarily look great either since the tile's corners won't be rounded.
I'm looking for a quick workflow if possible, as the tile size may vary (6x6, 8x8, 12x12, etc.).
I know that I can just manually move the vertices around or use FFD (4X4X4). So far the two previous methods seem to be the best but I want it to be a little more natural and not manually dented by the hand of man. I'm working on a few sort of apocalyptic designs, buildings put together by corrugated dented metal and such.
I am trying to apply multiple gradients to a leaf, or to any other object for that matter. Along the protruding edges I would like to apply a short gradient that points inward. I would like to repeat this gradient to every protruded edge, but each gradient would have to be manipulated independently. I have tried to do this using the Appearance Panel, by duplicating the fill. This works just fine but because the gradients are on different layers I can only see one gradient at a time, no way to see them all together.
The pic below is just an example, the colors/design are irrelevent.
When I try to move the gradient itself it seems to always jump back to where I picked it up, I can't place it exactly where I would like. As well, how can I control the wide of the gradient? As you can see in the pic, the protruding edges are quite narrow so the gradient should cover just that portion of the leaf.
If I already have an object selected and then click the "new layer" icon in the layers palette, the object I have selected deselects as soon as the new layer is created. Why is this? Also, it only happens on one of my computers, so I figured it was a setting that I'm missing but I certainly can't find it.
I was trying to create a clipping mask from an object that is made from two shapes, and one has appearances but I had to resort to expand appearance, then use the object as a clipping mask.
Is there really no way to keep the dynamic appearances and use a layer as a clipping mask?
I'm trying to create a distressed look on an object that has a gradient mesh appliet to it. i've done this with regular objects but never on one with a gradient mesh. one of the steps in this process is to expand the object, but i'm not able to do so because the expand option is grayed out in the drop down menu.
normally after expanding the object i would use one of the artistic charcoal brushes to create a texture over the object in a different color. then i would select the brush strokes and expand apperance. then, using the pathfinder, i would merge the expanded brush strokes with the expanded object and then delete the brush stokes. what remains is the object with little cut-outs where the texture of the brush strokes used to be.
however i can't do this because i can't expand the object with a gradient mesh.
When I click and drag with the direct selection tool, I'm getting a drag on the object rather than a marque for selecting points. As soon as I click, the tool switches to the black arrow tool. Did I mess up a setting somewhere? I'm not using any modifier keys.
I am a logo designer, and I have this photo realistic mockup for logos. So i have a layout where the main logo is a little above center, and below are two mock ups. So I am trying to have it where I can just make a change in the illustrator file and Photoshop can instantly make the change. The problem is that I am using two different mock ups and I have to edit both the mock ups (double click opening another window and pasting the smart object) to use them. The top layer is ok, because it will update itself.
I want a way to edit the illustrator logo and Photoshop to make all the changes in all three displays itself. The problem is that the bottom displays open up other Photoshop windows, with smart objects within them, but if I open up the top smart object, then it automatically opens illustrator.
So is there a way to just make one change in illustrator and Photoshop to automatically update it all.
I'm having problems with a document which has 26 artboards, the document was created by another designer and for some reason everytime I try and rearrange the artboards in this document, it crashes illustrator. The document is not large enough to warrent my machine crashing when I try and do this, and I have plenty of ram. Also the artboards are stacked very irrgeularly they do not work in sequence either horizontaly or vertically down the document canvas area in rows of columns, how is it possible to arrange the art boards in an irregular way like this, I would like to know for future reference? Maybe if I can find this out I can manually rearrange the boards. I should mention when I do try and rearrange the boards, sometimes it doens't crash illustraor straight away and it gives me the message that the artboards will fall completely outside of the document area. This happens no matter what direction I try ( grid by row, grid by coloumn, arrange by row, arrange by column) and also when I try and reduce the amount of space between the boards it doesn't work either.
I cannot upload images as the document is for a client.
