Photoshop :: Crashing On File Open
Jun 2, 2008Photoshop seems to be opening fine, but when I try to open a file, it crashes instantly. I've tried re-installing it, but the same exact thing happens. Does anyone have any advice?

View 3 RepliesI purchased CS5.5 extended about 3 weeks ago and all was working fine. Just yesterday Photoshop started crashing whenever I try to open files. I've deleted preferences several times, validated my fonts, restarted my Mac, etc. all to no avail. Photoshop has become useless to me and it's part of how I make my living. InDesign seems to work OK but I haven't tried Illustrator yet.
Here is last night's crash report (half the time it crashes with no report).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just trying the features of the new CorelDraw X6 recently. The first problem that I found was - it crashed when I tried to open a file (which was created using CorelDraw X5) with several Fonts (28 different script fonts used and there were only text in the file).
Then I again re-open corel X6 and when I tried to open the same file, it crashed again & again. I did this for 6 times with a crash everytime.
Then at the 7th time when I tried to open the same file in Corel X6, it just got hanged. The file is working fine (and opens quite fast) in Corel X5 as well as Corel X4.
I remeber similar problem happening with Corel X5 initially. Only after Service Pack 2 was made available for Corel X5, that problem solved. Is Corel X6 needs some patches too?
I have the student version of AutoCAD 2012 on an HP laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium OS. I originally installed AutoCAD in June of 2012. It worked fine for 9 or 10 months but now whenever I select File/Open, File/Save, or File/Save As, AutoCAD stops responding and the spinning blue donut appears. AutoCAD never comes back and I have to close it from Task Manager. I uninstalled AutoCAD and reinstalled it, and the process went smoothly. However I still have exactly the same problem with the File operations. I apply Windows updates, but other than that have not made any changes to the software on the laptop. AutoCAD works fine for everything except the File operations. I am able to save with CTL/S and am able to open AutoCAD files from File Manager.

I did notice that when it opens the Initializing Type Tool progress bar doesn't show up and I just noticed on the blue start up window something called "Building TWAIN" - I had read in a previous thread about a TWAIN plug in attaching itself to photoshop.
Recently my photoshop CS5 has been playing up and often when I try to save files it will freeze at the point of clicking ok and crash. Today also it crashed when I tried to open a photoshop file. This is incredibly frustrating as I'm a graphic designer and trying to complete some urgent work but I'm getting nowhere because nothing I'm doing is saving and I have to keep starting over. It's literally crashed about 40 times the past day and I'm wasting so many hours that I just don't have.
My version as mentioned is CS5 and I updated it yesterday with no avail.
My laptop is a Mac

I don't think I've done anything for this to start happening it just came out of nowhere..I usually only do the same few things with the program and also havn't altered files or even the computer.
I was trying to open an image that had already been processed by me in CS6 on this laptop.
When i select the image that i want to open CS6 launches but then i recieve an error message saying that CS6 is unable to open the image. Frustatlingly this does not happen with every image.
One person has said to reinstall the software but i downloaded it from the Adobe site and don't wnt to end up paying twice.

I received PSE 8 in a bundle with a Bamboo tablet. I loaded it up and have been editing pictures just fine. Yesterday I downloaded and installed some actions from MCP's site and messed with a few of them. Today I downloaded and installed the MCP Facebook actions. I was able to mess around with it a bit along with some other action until after a few minutes I reveived a message from Adobe telling me that it has detected that a program closed unexpectedly and asked if I wanted to send an error report, which I have. I gave it a rest for a while but it is still crashing. I can get into the Organizer but when I attempt to go into any of the edit areas, it will load up and after a few seconds I get the message. I am using Windows 7

I have a fairly large PSD file (255 mb) that crashes after selecting print from the file menu but before the print dialog comes up. I tried saving it as tif and jpg out of curiosity, same problem.
I opened other large files, no issue.
Do the details below give you any information on what might be causing the problem? Had a full color event poster I needed to print and get put out in town today.

I'm a long-time, reasonably proficient PS user (since before CS) who is experiencing repeated crashes. Will paste in most recent crash log below. Today, I've been trying to merge six images into one. Photomerge worked, apparently, created a file 547MB when flattened and saved. Then cropped to trim edges, saved. Then selected Dropper - crash. Identical experience twice in ten minutes except on second one had saved at each step. Had restarted after first crash.
Before pasting crash log, am on Mac Pro with 2 x 3 GHz quad core Intel Xeon CPUs, 8 GB RAM, OS X 10.6.8 current on patches, many 100s of GB available HD storage. Recently installed updated version of Silverfast but it wasn't running at second crash.
In the crash log I see numerous "crashy" looking references but cannot interpret.Have been on CS6 as soon as it was released. Have 3 crash reports since 12/2/12 on CS6.

I've been found a bit of a problem, when I try to assign an IES file to a light MAX Design hard crashes. The odd part is that when I open the IES file in 3ds MAX, not Design, it loads correctly. I've installed all the updates but it still happens.
I've attached the IES files in question, how can get it to work.
Edit- apparently I can't attach the IES files for some reason.
I am running the Coreldraw x6 suite on a PC laptop (I7 16GB ram 64bit) on Windows 8. I haven't had any issues lately until last week when it just crashed every time I opened a file. I tested it and if I create a file with just shapes in it, then it's fine. As soon as I add a font into the file it crashes and shows the attached image.
I checked the latest window updates and there hasn't been one recently that could have affected it. There was one for Flash and I removed it but no difference. I haven't made any changes to my computer in the last 2 weeks that could affect it and I don't have any viruses or trojans. I have also removed the Windows update from a while back that affected Coreldraw fonts.
I've even resorted to uninstalling and re-installing X6. I tried running the fresh install and the same thing happened again.
I am running Adobe Illustrator Cs6 on my Windows 8 computer. I have been using the program with no problems for a few days now. However today the program is crashing when I try to save a file. It starts saying it is not responding. I have tried restarting the computer a few times.

I've managed to get my VBA project messed up such that Inventor crashes when I try to load the project. The ivb file in question is attached.
Is there any way I can either open the .ivb file in some other more crash resistant program, how to get Inventor to not crash opening this file?
I am using CorelDraw X5 and my system is Windows 7 and is a 64 bit.
Most of the time when I am drawing and go to save my file, CorelDraw X5 will freeze up (not responding) and then crash. Most of the time, I can go and restart Corel, open my file and it will have saved where I wanted it to; but sometimes it will cause me to have to use the auto-backup or just the back up file.
I have a large file (17000KB) and it keeps crashing saying it is out of memory. Is there a good way to deal with this file? I can open it and try to delete parts of it but then when I try to save or save it as a different doc, it will crash.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using various versions of Lightroom on my Mac for many years without issue. I love the program. Recently though, when using the last iteration of Lightroom 3 I began to experience problems when performaning processor-intensive work. For example, my library has nearly 200K images, and these are organized into hundreds of folders (bird species), each folder containing from 1 to up to 14K images. My workflow is to bring in the photos, rename them, and then shift them over into these species folders. For me it's an easier and faster way to get my hands on specific images than using tags. In any case, when I try to move images between folders lately, Lightroom slows down and eventually crashes. It also crashes the other apps running on my Mac at the time (usually just a web browser). I get the gray screen of death and have to reboot the Mac. Start over and after a few minutes of work it happens again.
Today I upgraded to Lightroom 4.3 hoping that might solve the problem, but I experienced the same crash behavior tonight while shifting some photos around. The Mac is a Macbook pro, recent model with latest OS and with 16GB RAM. I don't experience problems like this with any other application, but Lightroom is now bringing my computer to its knees! I even took the Mac into the Apple store and had the full diagnostics run and they found no problems internally. I keep my photos on external drives connected by firewire. Another potential wrinkle: Lightroom doesn't seem to be able to find a few of my previously imported images even though the directory is looking for them in the right folder. I get a "File offline or missing" issue. I tried pointing the folder to a new location (the same one) but that didn't work. Oddly, it does seem to find others.
When I first installed Adobe Photoshop CS6 I was unable to run Photoshop or Bridge CS6. Photoshop would give me an error about "could not open a scratch file because the file is locked. If I ran either of these programs as an administrator they would run without issue, this led me to believe that there was a permission issue somewhere. After some digging I found out the both Bridge and Photoshop try to create a temp file (similiar to Photoshop Temp2777223910092) on the c: drive of the computer. In my case the user that I was logged in with did not have access to write to the root of the C: drive. Note that you run the program as the administrator and change the scratch disk location as that changes the preference for the administrator user and not the user that you are currently logged in as.
I first had to give the user that I was logged on with write permissions to the root of the C: drive. Next try and run Photoshop, you will get an error another error about the scratch disk and about and invalid or missing setting file. To correct this you need to have run Photoshop as an administrator, next you can go to Users AdminAppDataRoamingAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS6Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings and copy Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs and/or Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs to Users<your logged in username>AppDataRoamingAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS6.Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings.
Everything I read says its version 6.4, but when I attempt to run the 6.4 patch I get the message that it does not apply? Has Adobe prevented PSE7 from opening .NEF files from the D5100 (without conversion) in an effort to force paid upgrades to the current PSE version?
