Lightroom :: Crashing During Move File And Other Processor-intensive Operations?

Mar 25, 2013

I've been using various versions of Lightroom on my Mac for many years without issue. I love the program. Recently though, when using the last iteration of Lightroom 3 I began to experience problems when performaning processor-intensive work. For example, my library has nearly 200K images, and these are organized into hundreds of folders (bird species), each folder containing from 1 to up to 14K images. My workflow is to bring in the photos, rename them, and then shift them over into these species folders. For me it's an easier and faster way to get my hands on specific images than using tags. In any case, when I try to move images between folders lately, Lightroom slows down and eventually crashes. It also crashes the other apps running on my Mac at the time (usually just a web browser). I get the gray screen of death and have to reboot the Mac. Start over and after a few minutes of work it happens again.

Today I upgraded to Lightroom 4.3  hoping that might solve the problem, but I experienced the same crash behavior tonight while shifting some photos around. The Mac is a Macbook pro, recent model with latest OS and with 16GB RAM. I don't experience problems like this with any other application, but Lightroom is now bringing my computer to its knees! I even took the Mac into the Apple store and had the full diagnostics run and they found no problems internally. I keep my photos on external drives connected by firewire. Another potential wrinkle: Lightroom doesn't seem to be able to find a few of my previously imported images even though the directory is looking for them in the right folder. I get a "File offline or missing" issue. I tried pointing the folder to a new location (the same one) but that didn't work.  Oddly, it does seem to find others.

Lightroom :: Some Export Operations Were Not Performed?

Nov 8, 2012

I have imported images from a brand new My Book hard drive, completed my edits in LR, but when I attempt to export to a subfolder located in the original folder, I repeatedly get the error message: "Some export operations were not performed." None of the images are exported. I was able to export this way to my desired location at least once before, but I'm not sure if a setting got changed or what the problem is. It does however, let me export to other locations such as the Desktop.

Photoshop :: CC Crashing On Move Tool?

Nov 25, 2013

I try to use photoshop CC and it crashed EVERY single time I click the move tool, no matter what document I have open.  I haven't been able to do much else with it to see if it crashes in other places or not.  It crashes on both the 64 bit and 32 bit version.

I have windows 7, 64 bit.  I have an AMDHD 7700 graphics card and I also use the integrated Intel 2500 graphics for more monitors.

I have 16gb of ram.  I have just updated both of my video card drivers to try and correct the problem, but it has not fixed the problem.

I also get the "Photoshop has detected an error in your display driver" when I go into the performance tab in preferences.

Photoshop :: Crashing When Using Move Tool

Jul 15, 2009

I use the move tool a lot with auto-select unchecked, and the dropdown set to "layer". I ctrl+click layers to select them, and then shift+click to move them... but sometimes I mess up and hit both ctrl+shift+click, which if I do it right, results in a "Could not use move tool because no layers are selected" message, followed by a windows XP message saying "Adobe Photoshop CS3 has encounted a problem and needs to close...". reproducing this error is as easy as opening a new document, adding a layer, painting a quick line, selecting the move tool, and then ctrl+shift+click on the painted line. the following is from microsoft's little crash report: AppName: photoshop.exe     AppVer: 10.0.0.0     ModName: msvcr80.dllModVer: 8.0.50727.3053     Offset: 00008aa0 and possibly related lines from the log file: <MATCHING_FILE NAME="msvcr80.dll" SIZE="626688" CHECKSUM="0x40734795" BIN_FILE_VERSION="8.0.50727.42" BIN_PRODUCT_VERSION="8.0.50727.42" PRODUCT_VERSION="8.00.50727.42" FILE_DESCRIPTION="Microsoft® C Runtime Library" COMPANY_NAME="Microsoft Corporation" PRODUCT_NAME="Microsoft® Visual Studio® 2005" FILE_VERSION="8.00.50727.42" ORIGINAL_FILENAME="MSVCR80.DLL" INTERNAL_NAME="MSVCR80.DLL" LEGAL_COPYRIGHT="© Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved." Lightroom :: JPEG Export VS Photoshop Image Processor?

Nov 10, 2013

Long time photoshop and lightroom user (long time user of all things Adobe). First post here in the forums. I did a search for my question but I think it was too specific, so it returned zero results.

My question is about Lightroom's JPEG export vs Photoshops Image Processor. When I export a RAW file to JPEG from Lightroom, the file size is freaking huge. The JPEG is as big as my original RAW file (~25mb). Settings are set to default - 100 quality. Everything else remains untouched.

However, when I use Photoshop's image processor (I launch it through Bridge, easier that way for me) and process the RAW images that way, my JPEGs are roughly 5-10mb in size. Settings in Image Processor are quality 10 and thats it. No actions being run or anything.

why Lightroom exports JPEGs that are roughly 2-4 times the size of Photoshop's JPEGs? My initial thoughts are that the 100 quality setting in Lightroom is more like Photoshop's quality 12 (that always makes me think of Spinal Tap - "Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?" "These go to eleven.") Ideally, exporting out of Lightroom would be much easier for my workflow.

Photoshop :: CS6 Crashing Big File?

Dec 6, 2012

I'm a long-time, reasonably proficient PS user (since before CS) who is experiencing repeated crashes. Will paste in most recent crash log below. Today, I've been trying to merge six images into one. Photomerge worked, apparently, created a file 547MB when flattened and saved. Then cropped to trim edges, saved. Then selected Dropper - crash. Identical experience twice in ten minutes except on second one had saved at each step. Had restarted after first crash.

Before pasting crash log, am on Mac Pro with 2 x 3 GHz quad core Intel Xeon CPUs, 8 GB RAM, OS X 10.6.8 current on patches, many 100s of GB available HD storage. Recently installed updated version of Silverfast but it wasn't running at second crash.

In the crash log I see numerous "crashy" looking references but cannot interpret.Have been on CS6 as soon as it was released. Have 3 crash reports since 12/2/12 on CS6.

CorelDRAW X6 :: Keeps Crashing Upon Opening A File?

Oct 16, 2013

I am running the Coreldraw x6 suite on a PC laptop (I7 16GB ram 64bit) on Windows 8. I haven't had any issues lately until last week when it just crashed every time I opened a file. I tested it and if I create a file with just shapes in it, then it's fine. As soon as I add a font into the file it crashes and shows the attached image.

I checked the latest window updates and there hasn't been one recently that could have affected it. There was one for Flash and I removed it but no difference. I haven't made any changes to my computer in the last 2 weeks that could affect it and I don't have any viruses or trojans. I have also removed the Windows update from a while back that affected Coreldraw fonts.

I've even resorted to uninstalling and re-installing X6. I tried running the fresh install and the same thing happened again.

Photoshop :: 3D Operations On 16 Bit Images

May 17, 2012

I haven't had Photoshop Extended before CS6, so I've been experimenting with doing some simple 3D stuff, such as turning text into 3D shapes and trying to match it to a photographic background.

What I'm doing seems quite simple, and it seems to be working, but there's one glitch:  A few things seem to take a really long time.  At worst, Photoshop goes completely unresponsive for about 40 seconds.

A good example is this:  I have a photo I've opened in RGB/16 mode at 4096 x 6144 pixels, and I create a new Text layer over the photo with one word in it:  STOP

I click the 3D button in the Options area for the Text Tool, and wait a full 40+ seconds before seeing the pop-up that asks whether I want to switch to the 3D workspace.

I assume a 40 second delay isn't normal.  It's certainly not acceptable.

Once in the 3D editing realm, I can do most things with relative ease, such as moving the 3D mesh around, rotating it, changing lighting, etc.  The update time for any of those operations to show is maybe 1/2 second or so to show on the screen.  Some things are a little faster.  Even rendering it into a pretty clean state is fairly quick - just 10 seconds or so.

I've tested this in both Photoshop CS6 32 bit and 64 bit, and the performance seems about the same, as does the appearance of the long delay.

Other observations:

I also see the long delay if I click on a history step to go back or forward in the history. If I work on an 8 bits/channel image the 40 seconds is reduced to about 2 seconds. I have a decent 8 core machine, with (by today's standards) a modest graphics card:  ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 1 GB DDR5.  I'm on the ATI Catalyst 12.2 drivers because the 12.4 (latest) set has other problems.  But when I did try the 3D stuff with 12.4 the delay was the same.

Example:  Going from this screen to the one below takes 40 seconds.

...40 seconds later...

Ultimately tweaking it to look decent seems doable - no crashes or glitches...

Not knowing what to expect, or what I should expect to not try to do, what I'm doing seems pretty simple.  Am I trying something I shouldn't?  Is it just a given that to do 3D one is supposed to work on 8 bits/channel data?
