Jan 16, 2014After installing 5.3 to win 7 I noticed the catalogue file and folder have been placed on the desktop. Is there any way to move this to another location ?

Nov 8, 2011I've been geo tagging my RAW images before import. I copy them from the memory card to a temporary folder, geotag, then import, asking that images be moved to the "negatives" folder (organized by quarter). Things usually work, but several times recently I've been getting the subject message (with "xx" indicating a number of files). These images enumerated and named in the message are in fact moved, but are not imported.

I tried to update the catalog.I received the message that LR encountered problems when trying to update the format of the catalog file and cannot use this catalog in this version of Lightroom. When I click on the See Adobe Technote button, I received the message that that file is unavailable from the Adobe Website. I don't want to loose all my catalog information from my previous instralling of LR2.7.

May 29, 2012I used a trial version of Lightroom 4 and imported about 300 photos from my internal imac hard drive to tinker with during the trial. So when I first set LR up, the catalog was connected to my internal hard drive, via the Pictures folder. Then when the trial ended, I bought the software and installed it but in the meantime had transferred all my photo libraryfrom my computer internal hard drive to an external hard drive. Now that I have the LR 4 software and am no longer using the trial, I'm ready to import all my photos to Light room. My question is how to I change my LR catalog (which currently contains the 300 photos I imported during the trial period) to link to my big photo library which is now on my external hard drive, instead of linking to my computer's internal hard drive

My catalogue is located in my f drive in a second internal drive on my desktop computer. Where is the best location for my catalogue backup? I figured i would backup the catalogue to this f drive,and also to my new 1tb external drive. I will do this also for my images only on both drives. also how would i set up my external editing info. the custom templates. Can this info be set up later on. Is there a good link as to what this setting is and how to set it up.? also on metadata presets what categories are mandatory to fill out. I am an amateur photographer and do not publish any photos so i do not need a copyright. So I figured i would just fill out the creator section only.

The total content of my single catalogue file is in sub-folders in my Picture Library. I have grown out of my 1TB drive and have just bought and inseted a 2TB disk. Now, I want to move the content of my total Pictures library to my new HDD but my LR catalogue must keep track of it.
How do I undertake this? (To me this is a huge undertaking and I cannot afford to make a mistake.)

By default the presets folder is located at C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingAdobe. I use Lightroom on both a desktop and laptop and ideally I'd like to sync the presets between them by moving the presets folder to my SkyDrive folder. This way if I create a new preset on one device, it will automatically sync to the other device via SkyDrive.
Yes I realize I can store presets within the catalog folder and I could move my catalog to a SkyDrive folder which would technically accomplish my goal. However that would require sync'ing my entire catalog which I do not want to do; that would generate a lot of syncing traffic back and forth all the time. So I want my catalog and my presets in seperate locations, and I want to define where my presets are stored, which I haven't seen an option for.
Lightroom :: 5 - CR2 File Don't Appear As DNG Thru Import As Catalogue
Sep 21, 2013Photoshoot last week and I shot tethered. I had the client go through some images at the shoot on my MBP.
When I got back to the office i exported the shoot as a catalogue and reimported as a catalogue into LR5 .
I noticed today that the files in LR still say CR2.
I am thinking images were never converted to DNG because they were never imported through the IMPORT module...
So perhaps that ios why I am having such a time seeing stuff I edit in photoshop that disappear when saving in PS....

If it is important I would save the image in a different folder from the other program directly. When I return to the library module I would like to see the same number of pictures in my catalogue as they were before I started to manipulate any of the files.

I have figured out that any photos to be moved in My Pictures, can be deleted first from the Lightroom Catalogue, then moved in My Pictures, then reimported into the Catalogue.

Mar 16, 2013I have been using Photoshop elements for many many years and am now looking to use Lightroom as an Interface.
At the moment, I have a Folder structure on my computer. At the Top I have Photos. Under Photos I have 43 additional Folders such as ( Cindi/Ivan Pictures, Cory & Jess Pictures, Barry & Janie Pictures, etc..) Now for each of these folders, such as Cory & Jess Pictures, I have a set of folders basically broken down by month/year. Now in a Given Month/Year Folder, I have a set of folders with each one containing the pictures of a given event that occurred ( birthday, trip, etc…). Guess my initial question is how do I get these pictures into a Lightroom Catalog and do I continue to use the same Structure.
Another example - Under the Barry/Janie Pictures Folder, one of the many Folders in this Folder is called Trips. Inside the Trips folder, I have folders for every major trip that Janie & I have taken since 2004 (21 different folders) (For example there is an Isreal Folder). The Israel Folder is made up of a set of folders, for each individual event or place that we visited during our Trip - i.e. 59 different folders. How would this Trips Folder be brought into Lightroom?

Dec 23, 2013Got the <Unexpected error opening catalogue> dialog when starting Lightroom 5.2. Will not allow me to save a new catalogue. Deleted old catalogue thinking that might prompt Lightroom to create a new catalogue or allow me to create and save a new one.Create Folder with New Catalogue allows me to enter a new catalogue name but then Select Catalogue dialog box is empty. Program wont open!

What I want is to end up with 1 catalog with all my photos in LR 5 with all my previous edits from LR 2.7 and the keywords as well. By the way, my LR 5 has photos in it as well.
Lightroom :: 3.6 Encountered An Error When Reading Catalogue File And Needs To Quit
May 16, 2012Working in LR 3.6, Mac OS10.6.8, 8GB RAM, accessing from an external USB 2TB harddrive, and when opening an image I get the error:
"Lightroom encountered an error when reading a catalogue file and needs to quit.
"Lightroom will attempt to diagnose the problem the next time it launches."
I've run "Optimize Catalogue" and that didn't relieve the problem. Also have deleted preference files and still no joy. I also have upgrade to LR4 in hopes that it will fix the problem and it didn't. So I've removed LR4 for the time being until I can figure this out in LR3.

Jan 30, 2014Lightrooms crashed, which is a common occurrance. But, this last time was different. After I restarted it my catalog was not linked and all my settings were gone. I tried opening the catalog through the file menu, but absolutely nothing happens. I tried going to the folder and clicking on it but this only opens lightroom with no catalog. After having scanned this forum I found that I need to delete the .lock file, but after doing that the same things happen. how to open my catalog? Will reinstalling Lightroom work?

May 6, 2008I am downloading pictures from FOTKI. It is possible to download them to my desktop. When I go to ADOBE STARTER EDITION 3, they cannot be accessed in the "home" folder, showing all of my pictures.
When I try to import the picture into the Adobe Pictures folder, I can only see it if I use the "find" option giving the image number. I cannot locate it in the folder showing all of my pictures.
When I try to move the picture into the folder showing all of my pictures, I get a "photo already in catalogue, cannot be imported" message.

Mar 12, 2013I understand that Lightroom catalog backup saves only the metadata refering to changes etc. that have been made to photos. My question refers to the backup of the photo files themselves. If I do a Windows Defrag for instance, the photos will probably be moves in that process to a different location on my hard drive. Can Lightroom still find thesse photo files once they are moved? Or, if I restore photo files from an external drive to my internal hard drive which will probably locate them on different locations than they were originally, how does Lightroom associate the Catalog metadata with these newly relocated files?

Apr 4, 2014Lightroom 5.3 stopped Importing photos and videos. Error message appears "Could not copy a file to the requested location."
I uninstalled and reinstalled LR 5.3. Problem still occurs. There must be residual problems not cleared out by the uninstall.

Nov 8, 2013I get an error code "file could not be moved to selected location" when trying to move an image or a folder from one hard drive to another within Lightroom.
I am migrating from a Windows-based PC to an iMac. I successfully used Lightroom to move all my images and catalogs from the PC hard file to a USB attached hard file. I was able to go to the iMac and move the Lightroom Catalog from USB attached drive to the Apple Macintosh drive. I was able to bring up Lightroom with moved Lightroom Catalog and work with all of my images. Then using Lightroom I was unable to move the images to the Macintosh hard drive without getting the error code above.
