Lightroom 5.3 stopped Importing photos and videos. Error message appears "Could not copy a file to the requested location."
I uninstalled and reinstalled LR 5.3. Problem still occurs. There must be residual problems not cleared out by the uninstall.

It itemised every image I am trying to import..I thought I would upgrade to LR 4 and the problem would go away - it didn't!!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI store my images on an external hard drive. I recently upgraded from LR 3.6 on a windows XP machine to LR 5 on an iMac. I moved my catalogue fine, I think, as I can see all my images in LR 5 on the iMac. The problem is that I suspect there is some problem between the iMac and the external hard drive. I cannot import my RAW photos from my CF card into LR and onto the external hard drive. LR tells me "could not copy files to the requested location."
Is there some problem because I changed from windows to Mac? Problem bc I upgraded from LR 3.6 to LR 5?
I've been geo tagging my RAW images before import. I copy them from the memory card to a temporary folder, geotag, then import, asking that images be moved to the "negatives" folder (organized by quarter). Things usually work, but several times recently I've been getting the subject message (with "xx" indicating a number of files). These images enumerated and named in the message are in fact moved, but are not imported.

One of the triggers for doing this was getting a Canon G15; and the fact that my previous workflow didn't work for the CR2 files that it produced. (Previous work flow [Mac Mini ... a bit creaky now, running OS 10.7.5]: Use Nikon's importing tools to import photos to folders & create back up at same time [external drive] Use Preview to select & just do basic editing if needed [e.g. cropping]), import (add, rather than move/copy) to Lightroom - though often I'd wait for a bit & do quite a few groups at at time, especially if Preview was ample for what I wanted to do at the time. While the Nikon import tool was fairly agnostic about JPEGs, it naturally didn't recognise the CR2 files
The Canon software wouldn't create the backup files that I liked. I've also experimented with Image capture, but again, no luck with creating the backup
So, on the upgrade to lightroom 5, I have started to look at using Lightroom (though it takes forever to load compared to Nikon / Canon offerings). I have now discovered, however, that the backup that Lightroom does creates folders named "Imported on 28 July 2013" - rather than the 2013-07-28 folder structure that I use elsewhere. I can't find a setting to let me create the backup folders based on the same structure as the main import.
(The only option I can think of at present is to use Carbon Copy Cloner & run it daily on the regular destination, unless others have other ideas ...)
[Time Machine runs, but I also want to have the photos in a way I can easily access them from Windows etc., as well as Mac. And I'm a bit of a back up freak. I like plenty of the things. Just In Case]
I have a brand new ASUS notebook Win 8 64 bit.
LR4.3 installed to the C: drive (default installation). I am now copying from my external drive all photos to the larger D: data drive.
Of course, I have the very latest catalog backed up to multiple places. The old laptop (Windows 7) was just a single C: drive instead of the two drives I now have.
2 Q: 1) To what location do I copy that backup LR4 catalog?
2) As I remember from some years ago, I also need to double-click on that LR4 catalog once it's in the proper place. Is that right?
I am printing a large amount of print packages for a Sports Club. The photos are not printing to the size request. 5x7's 8x10... Very frustrating. What am I missing? I am printing to a Epson Stylus Photo 1400 using Epson paper and ink.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI understand that Lightroom catalog backup saves only the metadata refering to changes etc. that have been made to photos. My question refers to the backup of the photo files themselves. If I do a Windows Defrag for instance, the photos will probably be moves in that process to a different location on my hard drive. Can Lightroom still find thesse photo files once they are moved? Or, if I restore photo files from an external drive to my internal hard drive which will probably locate them on different locations than they were originally, how does Lightroom associate the Catalog metadata with these newly relocated files?

I get an error code "file could not be moved to selected location" when trying to move an image or a folder from one hard drive to another within Lightroom.
I am migrating from a Windows-based PC to an iMac. I successfully used Lightroom to move all my images and catalogs from the PC hard file to a USB attached hard file. I was able to go to the iMac and move the Lightroom Catalog from USB attached drive to the Apple Macintosh drive. I was able to bring up Lightroom with moved Lightroom Catalog and work with all of my images. Then using Lightroom I was unable to move the images to the Macintosh hard drive without getting the error code above.
Recently I reorganized my system so that my image files were on a different drive that I had previously been using a backup drive, so no additional file copying was involved. When I ran Lr it did not find any images, as expected, at the original location and I told it where to find them by pointing it to the new parent image folder. That worked fine but then it seemed as if all of the previews had to be rebuilt on the fly by Lr as I went to each folder. Could it be that the previews in the preview cache are location specific to drive/volume level rather than just folder level ? Or is there a way to aim that ole preview cache at the new image locations ?
Likewise, would this apply to the ACR cache too ? i.e. if I point Lr at the same images in the same folder names on a different drive, will the ACR cache data still be relevant or should I just scrap it and start again ?
I told Lr to rebuild previews for many of my images and it did so overnight, but now the preview cache is about 30GB instead of about 12GB. It's possible that I picked up previews of images that were previously not in the cache, but would the new cache still contain previews of the now non-existant images at the old locations ?
I have previously reverted to system backups in which the whole drive volume had previously been been copied intact. Lr always worked fine in those situations. Is my present problem because I shifted the images folder relative to the drive volume where Lr is running ?
I'm using Lr 3.6 on a 2011 MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.6.8.
So when you copy and then paste a selection, photoshop almost always pastes way far away from where I copied. Why does it do that and how can I make it stop? I commonly need to be able to copy something and then paste in the exact same spot.

When exporting an image into the External Editor for Nik Color Efex Pro I get the Warning Dialogue (cool) but when I click the tab (to read more) "Copy File Options", it keeps reverting to sRGB as opposed to "ProPhoto RGB" (my desired Space) and something I keep resetting in Preferences> External Editors>Nik... Why???
I'm hoping this will serve as a warning to other professionals to click that tab tpo make sure you are working in "ProPhoto" if that is what you desire. Because once the information is gone, well.....
I repeat that this was not a problem with LR4 and I was having NO problems with my External Editors. So from my computer, my standpoint, a bug has been Introduced.
We have upgraded to AutoCAD Mechanical 2012, and I am having a little trouble finding where AutoDesk has relocated a few of the 2009 commands.
Where is the new location for Copy With Base Point? I used to go EDIT > Copy With Base Point.
I am enjoying a lot of the new features of AM 2012. It will just take a while to get used to where everything is at.
I am trying to copy a part that is in my assembly drawing and then place multiple instances of that part at equally spaced distance between each other. I can copy the part but i don't know how to place the copied part at the distance i want to place it in.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have many files which I created by making a copy of the original and editing it. I have the original file with no edit history. The copy which shows the results of the editing is marked as a missing file and the edit history is greyed out. Both file share the same name with the exception that one is a copy. Is there any way to re-link these files? When I try to search for the missing file and point to the original, it tells me that the file is already linked to a file and can't be linked to a second file.

I have a second image, the same exact size and resolution as the first two layer image. I would like to paste layer 2 from the first image, into the same exact position on image 2. Every time I paste. it centers the text, whether it is just a ctrl-v, or a paste layer. I've even tried promoting the layer 2 in the first image then pasting as new layer into image two, with no luck. Everything I've done pastes layer 2 from image one, into the center of image 2.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the process of trying to find out how to name virtual copies I came across Julianne Kost's blog which explained it very well.
However, I can't find the rather useful option of showing "copy name or file name" but rather just "copy name" or "file name" on their own. Since I'm using LR3 (Mac), is this a feature available only in LR4 or am I doing something wrong?
I had copied a .PNG file into the source folder and wanted to import it into the Lightroom catalog.
However the import dialog does not show that file in the source folder at all.
I also tried the method of selecting the source folder and using the "Synchronize" option. But that did not show the .PNG file either.
My clumsy work-around was to open the file in CS6 and save it as a .JPG file.
So my question: how can I tell Lightroom which file types (extensions) I want to be able to import?
When copying a symbol (control c) then pasting (control v) I can move the symbol to another location and left click to drop it. Many times when I do this the symbol disappears and you can't see it. If I re (regen) the the entire model disappears. I can close out the drawing then open it back up the drawing has been restored and the symbol will be at the location that I had placed it at. With the same drawing, I don't have these problems with 2012.

I get a message saying : "Failed to publish DWF file."
I transfer my adjustments from lightroom to photoshop for additional editing. The adjustments show in the new Photoshop file. However, when I make a selection from that file and copy and paste it into a different Ps file, it does not show the adjustments. I even tryed saving the adjusted photoshop file as a jpeg and then opening it up and reselecting what I want.....Copy and paste it.....and the adjustments still don't appear on the different Ps file/photo. How can I keep the adjustments made in lightroom as a selection to copy and paste to a new file?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a file in photoshop cs5 that had come from lightroom 5.3. This was then saved (automatically becomes tiff file in Lightroom). I then wanted to make some more adjustments to it in lightroom (using local adjustment clarity). I then tried to copy the settings of the adjustment brush from the tiff to the original raw file. This is where it gets very strange. The adjustments are copied but they are rotated ccw by 90 degrees! I can replicate this every time.

Now I want to have a backup of the image file on the memory card additionally to downloading it. The tethering software digiCamControl can do this with my camera, so it is technically possible.
So how can I achieve this using Lightroom tethering?
