Lightroom :: Move Photos To Another Location - All Are Disappeared?
Dec 15, 2012
was trying to move a photo to another location and I clicked on something and it asked if I wanted to create a new catalog. I said yes. Now none of my photos are appearing in my lightroom.

I imported them without moving them. So they're in the catalog. How do I transfer them to the drive which contains the entire catalog. (I should have hit "move" right?)

When I opened Lightroom, all my photos and folders had disappeared. I thought I might've opened another catalog, so I went to File > Open Recent, but there was only the one catalog listed

I am using Lightroom 3.5. I imported todays shoot into Lightrooms catalogue. They were converted from raw to dng. But only when the import was finished did I notice that all my collections and photos were missing. Before I went to my most recent backup I went to my catalogue and double clicked Karls catalogue.lrcat. This restored all my collections and photos, except for todays import.
When I open Lightroom I always hold down Alt so that it opens my catalogue rather than creating a new catalogue, but I must have not pressed Alt hard enough or something because I suspect Lightroom did in fact create another catalogue. I did a search for .lrcat in windows explorer and found my catalogue and 3 backups on my external drive, however I also found Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat in C;/Users/Karl/Pictures on my laptop.
How can I retrieve todays import and put it onto my catalogue?

I have 'User Order' sorting selected in a catalog of about 25,000 images and I want to move thumbnails around to specific locations in the grid view. Of course, I can select and drag them but I'm wondering if Lightroom has something like a move-to-new-location function according to which I can select photos to move, select the new grid position, and move the photos right to the new location. Phase One's Media Pro has this function but I'm not seeing it in Lightroom.

I've been geo tagging my RAW images before import. I copy them from the memory card to a temporary folder, geotag, then import, asking that images be moved to the "negatives" folder (organized by quarter). Things usually work, but several times recently I've been getting the subject message (with "xx" indicating a number of files). These images enumerated and named in the message are in fact moved, but are not imported.

When deleting photos I used to get a dialogue asking if I wanted to delete from catalog only or from disc as well. This dialogue has suddenly stopped appearing - very frustrating as deleting now only removes photo from the catalog. Clearly I will often want to get rid of the photo from disc to avoid clutter.

Under 'Edit' I clicked on 'new catalogue' and named the new catalogue 'Lightroom Sanbonani'. I am not too sure what I did after this (maybe pressed the 'enter' key) but suddenly Lightroom closed down. When I re-opened Lightroom, I saw that all of my photos that were on the left hand side in date folders had disappeared, INCLUDING all of my 'Collections' and work that I had done on the photographs.
The photos are obviously all in my 'backups' folder on my harddrive, but all of the work that I had done in adjusting the photographs in Lightroom are no longer to be seen. I now have to do the adjustments all over again.
Why did I 'lose' all of my photographs inside Lightroom?

On Windows, it is possible to move the presets folder to a user-defined location?
By default the presets folder is located at C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingAdobe. I use Lightroom on both a desktop and laptop and ideally I'd like to sync the presets between them by moving the presets folder to my SkyDrive folder. This way if I create a new preset on one device, it will automatically sync to the other device via SkyDrive.
Yes I realize I can store presets within the catalog folder and I could move my catalog to a SkyDrive folder which would technically accomplish my goal. However that would require sync'ing my entire catalog which I do not want to do; that would generate a lot of syncing traffic back and forth all the time. So I want my catalog and my presets in seperate locations, and I want to define where my presets are stored, which I haven't seen an option for.

I can't add sublocation (or any other) EXIF data to multiple photos after selecting them in library grid view. This happened recently; before that it worked. Keywords work, however, as they always did.
I'm running Lightroom 4.1 on MacOsX 10.7.4. Don't remember doing any OS updates just before this happened. I have 4 GB of RAM, 639.5 GB actual HD (135 GB unused).

I recently had to format the ext drive that my photos were on. after doing that i put all those photos back. i opened Finder, clicked ext drive titled Photos and placed the parent folder, My Pictures there.
When I now look at the folders panel the parent folder is Photos and then My Pictures. in older catalogs the parent folder was always My Pictures. there are no ?s anywhere. wondering whether i put the photos back in the right way or right place.
Even though i select a specific folder when i now import photos they go to a completely different and new folder and seemingly to a new drive titled Photos. that is also the name of the drive that all the photos are on. when i click "show in finder" all images show the original drive titled Photos. so when you look at the folder panel it looks like there are actually two drives titled Photos and the imported photos are now going to the second Photos drive. in reality there is only one drive titled Photos.
i can't get imported photos to go to the correct drive.

I use LR 5 and I cannot seeme to get my location data imported when I import my photos. The data is there because it show up in PS Bridge but it is not in the metadata record in Lightroom and the map module cannot find it. I looked through all of the setting and I found nothing that would preclude location from being loaded.

I'm experiencing a bit of an organization problem with Lightroom 3 which is probably rather easy to fix, but I just can't seen ti figure out how. When I import photos in Lightroom it automatically creates folders (2011-12-14 for example) and I would like to change the location on my computer for these folders, but I can't find where to do it. It now creates these folders in my regular Pictures folder which gets really messy due to this. How can I change this? And how do I relocate all the excisting folders on my laptop, without having to find all the missing photos afterwards.

I can manually import photos to the correct location, or using a new catolog move / add the photos return to the last catolog to find half my photos missing. at this point LR allows you to 'find missing photos' If you find one missing photo it magically finds other missing photos from the same folder (exact same date) If Adobe would only allow its app to go out a directory or two when finding other missing photos this problem would go away for me, and its super easy to do, and it does not open up adobe to any new issues, only fixes a huge amount of mistakes.

After importing 71,000 photos into version 4, I somehow ended up continuing to use version 3 (even though 4 was on my computer). Now, 1,000 more photos later, I discover that version 3 is still on my computer and is actually the version I am using! What is the smartest way to get the most recent 1,000 photos into version 4 and GET RID of version 3?

I have found that I cannot delete any photos from LR 4.1 using any delete command (from disc choice). Ctrl+Backspace method or right click -> delete method. No amount of fussing going to other files and then back to the ones I want to delete works. Rebooting the program doesn't work. Google search shows that this may be a known bug.
I cannot delete anything in LR (from disc) and can only delete one file at a time from explorer (directly from LR - that is, LR will not show me more than one file at a time in explorer). I am on new computer (never had this issue before): Windows 7 professional 64 bit, processor i7-3770 3.40 GHz, 16GB RAM.
Now I find that I cannot move files at all through the LR 4.1 interface.Perhaps windows is not giving permission to LR to move anything?

I'm using Lightroom 5 and moving photos to a sub folder. Here's where I'm running into a problem:
My photos are in a folder named "to file"Inside "to file" I create a folder named "2013-05"I select some photos from "to file" and click and drag them into "2013-05"They appear in "2013-05" as expectedThe problem is, they still appear in the parent folder "to file" My question is, once I move photos to a sub folder how can I prevent them from appearing in the parent folder?

I am using Lightroom 4.3 on a windows 7 64 windows computer with two hard drives. One dedicated to running programs and the larger one for storage of all my other stuff. Well my backups and download backups folders are on the smaller drive and I need to move them to the other larger drive. Can I do this without totally freaking Lightroom out?

FIRST: I cannot move photos from one folder to another, drag and drop does not function at all, and there is no 'move' command with a right-cllick on a photo. I can move folder locations, drag and drop on the folder view works, but I want to move individual photos. I am sure I could do it with previous versions.
SECOND: If I click on HELP, I simply get a box up from Adobe AIR saying: This installation of this application is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance. I am loathe to re-install as last time I did that, I had a grand hassle over number of activations, even though I am only running on my one and only machine.

For some reason I'm unable to move photos or folders from within lightroom 4. The drag and drop system from the library module does nothing for me. I'm pretty sure I just watched an AdobeTV demonstration where the presenter had no problem moving files inside the "Folders" panel in the Library. I've even tried highlighting the photos I want to move from the grid view, control+clicking on the folder where I want them to go, selecting "Move Selected Photos to this Folder" from the flyout, and nothing happens.
My cursor shows a green plus(+) icon when I mouse over the destination folder when dragging the photos, as if LR were going to add the files to the folder.... but then nothing happens.
Am I losing it, shouldn't this be a completely intuiative process? Is it possible I've locked my files/photos?
