I have a problem when I extract the normal map of mudbox. I see on the result a degraded in the normal, then when i put on 3d max i see a shadow degraded... Maybe i have bad parameters in normal maps extractor. extract the normal map on mudbox where resolve this problems.
I've been using Blender a lot recently, and, not wanting to front the money to buy a Normal Map generation program or (oh dear) use GIMP of all things, I decided to try creating a Normal Map in Paint.NET.
What is a Normal Map, you ask? Normal Maps are images that are used in conjunction with a texture to give the texture false 'depth', allowing, say, light to shine onto the bricks in a texture while not getting into the cracks between, or making light come from a specific side.
The original texture:
The normal map:
The result:
Not the best, as you can clearly see.
How could I make improvements? Is this even practical?
Im having a bit of an issue combining normal maps. Basically I am taking 3 normal maps that were rendered from a normal bake from three separate portions of the model... Using Photoshop i duplicate the layers over into a single file to avoid any overlapping or offsetting the maps, when previewing it inside MAX it does something crazy instead.
The maps display completely wrong even through the resolution and ratios are exactly the same. I have lined them up int the UV editor to verify. Do alpha maps in fact play a role im properly displaying combined maps (separating them from each other in a single file)? If this is the case, then how to i properly copy the alphas over into a single file using Photoshop?
I am trying to create a normal map from a model..when i goto "Render to Texture" and press render, i get an image with red color..In projection mapping, when i click on pick , i don't find anything to pick...create a normal map..
I encountered one problem with mudbox.I have finished sculpting and texturing my high-res model, but after extracting the texture maps, I realised there are some overlapping issues in my uvw map.
so i modified the uvw map back in 3ds max, exported the model, and import the new uvw map into mudbox. Due to the modification of the uvw map, the texture maps kind of screwed up on the model as they are not aligned to the new uvw map. I figure there might be a way to store the texture map information on the model into some place, then get it to reapply onto the model after i reimport the new uvw map.
I'm modeling in mudbox 2012 and extracting my normal maps for 3ds max and my diffuse and bump as a PNG.In 3ds 2012 the normal map seems to be changing to the overal brightness of the diffuse, changing it noticeably darker.
It's been ruled out that its not a bump map that's causing so its definitely the normal map.
We're experiencing some artefacts near UV seams on our baked displacement maps. We have a clean, multiple UV-tile model which is subdivided, sculpted etc. Baking uses subdivision method, smooth target mesh and UVs on (we render with prman). Edge bleed is default 2, anti aliasing to x2.
Then test the map out by bringing the target model back in, subdivide up to the corresponding level, and sculpt using maps. The artefacts are not everywhere, just on some UV boundaries in some areas, very strange. The UV boundaries are clean quads, same spacing, good use of UV space. My concern is its in sporadic regions, and not globally over all seams.
I created a normal map in mudbox for baking in maya but when i bake it on the face, it has some distortions. I tried to correct whatever i cud in photoshop but there are still parts which look very patchy. My question is, whats the proper way to correct such kind of patches though i have tried hard in photoshop. I am attaching both the extracted normal map and also how it looks after its applied over the face. Open the attachment and you will know what i am talking about.
Mudbox 2012 SP3/2013 SP2 Linux version freezes at 99% when generate maps and shows Tangents calculating ...
Not sure about Windows version but Linux versions (2012/2013) on my computer have this issue. The actually maps can be generated even it freezes at 99% and shows Tangents calculating... However, it is very annoying because I have to force Mudbox to quit everytime at this step.I even tested with a simple tube in Maya and brought it into Mudbox for testing. It gave me the same result and froze at 99%.
I am trying to create a AO and Normal map of the same model with different sub d level but with different UVs but when I do both my UVs are all mixed up. Is it possible or i need to have the same UVs on both model? what are my alternative?
The same scene, same settings, produce 2 very different outputs in max 2011 and 2012, render to texture for normals is currently useless in max 2012.
The blue one is a correct tangent normal map created from a sphere in max 2011, the colored one is the the one created inside max 2012 from the same objects and settings, and the last is another sample of normals generated in max 2012.
I would like to know if I can import my AutoCAD 3d file into 3DS MAX, with the lighting maps and material maps intact. This is because I am doing my thesis on AutoCAD 2011 but I would like to use 3DS Max to do a walk through video.
how to add refletion to a material. In Cinema 4d I can simply click and reflection and adjust the parameters and i have it, but 3ds max is more complicated and has more things. So i go to "maps", check the box for "reflection", than i have to choose a map. But i want a map that gives me total reflection everywhere, no falloff or things like that. What map do i have to choose?
So I somehow managed to add multiple libraries to my material editor. I think I didn't realize they were added so I kept adding them. Now I want to delete them because I'm not using them, and they just get in the way for when I'm trying to get to the default maps.
I have installed LR4 X64 on a brand new Windows 7 ultimate laptop. I can't see the maps. I have updated to LR4.1 RC still can't see the maps. I have checked the firewall logs and added LR to allowed programs. Still no luck. I have turned the firewall (Windows) off. Still no luck. All other app access the internet OK. Other features in LR can access the internet OK, e.g. ftp to my website. I have searched google and this seems to be a problem for others with the X64 version.
In my old version of CorelDraw 7 there was a set of cliparts in the third CD with a lot of country and continent maps. I cannot find them anymore in CorelDraw X3.
i've tried using image ready... is there any way that i can make the text itself into an image map? i mean... i don't want to have to draw a rectangle around the text... or make guidelines around the text.... is there any way i can make the actual text into an image map?
trouble with displacement mapping. I am trying to cover a very rugged cliff face with the Union jack (british flag). I am trying to get a sort of old faded spray painted on look, following the rock contours.
trouble applying a displacement filter to my flattened images. I think i know how to create the displacement map. I right click on any one colour channel; duplicate it; save as a new channel; and save this new b&w image as my disp. map.
But then i go back to the image that i want 'displaced', click on the appropriate layer, go to Filter>Distort>Displace, click OK on the little dialog box and then open the previously created disp. map. Then nothing happens.
I tried rendering a sphere with an multipage pdf earthmap over backburner. The map is only loaded and rendered in lowres. Rendering on each workstation locally works fine and highres and as expected.
I've made a model I'm content with - editable poly, and have added a UVW Map modifier and Unwrap UVW and subsequently rendered the UVW, taken it into photoshop and done what I would like to it then brought it back in as a diffuse material - all worked fine.I'm going to be using the asset in a prototype game so want to decrease the number of triangles rendered. So to decrease the polygons I've added an Optimise modifier. This is great for decreasing the number of polygons, but unfortunately as it changes the underlying geometry, it appears is mucking up the UVW coordinates and my material is all over the place.
What is the correct process or technique to decrease the polygons and preserve the UVW map appearance on the object, which was set on the higher res version? I've tried changing the modifyer stack order but as the shape has a number of irregular surfaces, the unwrapped UVW in peel mode is a real mess and would be extremely difficult for me to texture with any consistency.
I renamed all the textures to tif textures and now 3ds Max tells me that there are still missing jpeg textures.
I followed the tutorials on the web to fix these issues : I mean by using the material/map browser but I can't find the "root Only" checkbox that is in 3ds Max 2009.
How can I display all the maps used in the scene ?
Im trying to merge 2 maps together so that I can combine the info from the 2, unfortunately one of the maps has been adjusted to the curve of the earth while the other is flat. I've been able to get it fairly close with the perspective tool but I was wondering if theres any way to make it match points on the maps to merge them down to the same size and shape so that they flat map has the same curve as the other map.
I'm new to AutoCAD, and especially new to AutoCAD Map 3D. I need to make a plat showing a well location. When using Petra or DrillingInfo, a map can be printed to a DXF. DrillingInfo puts out a DXF with just the 0 layer, and the well spots come in as polyline circles. The DXF Petra puts out opens with different layers and symbology, which I like. It's just that the well spots are blocks, which I do not understand. When I open the Petra map with AutoCAD Map 3D, my well spots are unitless block references, and are tiny specks. I need to resize them so they can be seen.
After just reading all 146 messages in the topic, "No more ImageReady in CS3 - VERY FRUSTRATING", I am seriously bummed, but left with unanswered questions.
Specifically, has anyone found a cheap, practical alternative for creating simple image maps with polygonal click regions? I want to create an actual map, where you click on a city name and go to a web page on that city. Rectangles do not work, as the real world regions are not shaped that way -- it has to be polygons. Nor do I want the map to be physically sliced apart and reassembled with table elements. I just want to use the HTML map and area tags.
Photoshop 7 (my last version) could do this simple, useful task. My Photoshop CS3 "upgrade" cannot.
creates simple map & area image maps -- or perhaps an add-in or standalone? Something other than a $300 piece of otherwise useless (for my purposes) bloatware.
