AutoCad :: USGS Maps With Aerial Photo / Linework Overlays
Mar 26, 2013I am looking for an inexpensive website that offers USGS maps with aerial photo and CAD linework overlays. I used to be able to purchase these files from Topo Depot but they closed their site down at the end of 2012.

Apr 3, 2012Also shift position (north/south). Have done this before in Autocad cannot remember process. It was a very simple procedure but I can not find any documentation on it. I do remember it involved picking the new position for each corner of the quad.
As well ,is there a way to clip the collar in Autocad. A clip that will not be affected by other clips necessary to other drawings?
AutoCAD Map 3D :: Draw Order With Display Maps
Sep 11, 2013We have a project where we have a combination of CAD data and shape files (connected) with various labels in both formats.
They are in the proper order for both 'Groups' and 'Draw Order' in the 'Display Manager'.
We have two separate viewports, created and named using 'Display Maps' with the applicable layers turned to visible as each viewport requires (some common shapefiles need to be display, some different, some different CAD data also). When we do a regen within one viewport the other non-active viewport immediately loses its draw order (CAD objects appear above the shapefile data). If we switch viewports and Regen then the first viewport will lose its draworder.
Could this be a case for Autodesk Subscription and the developer's to resolve?
3ds Max :: How To Display All The Maps Used In The Scene
Apr 9, 2013I have a model with jpg textures.
I renamed all the textures to tif textures and now 3ds Max tells me that there are still missing jpeg textures.
I followed the tutorials on the web to fix these issues : I mean by using the material/map browser but I can't find the "root Only" checkbox that is in 3ds Max 2009.
How can I display all the maps used in the scene ?
3ds Max :: Hidden Line Style Doesn't Display Texture Maps In Viewport
Apr 9, 2011It appears various people are posting things that are posted in the Readme. For Nitrous these are:
• To prevent issues with Nitrous, ensure you have the most up‐to‐date system drivers. For specific details, see the sections about 3ds Max 2012 / 3ds Max Design 2012 found at URL....
• Applying Unwrap UVW after painting in 2D with Viewport Canvas and painting on top of the Unwrap UVW can sometimes cause 2D paint to fail.
Workaround: If this occurs, apply an Edit Poly modifier on top of the Unwrap UVW modifier.
• Civil View parameters can cause a program error when modifying surface parameters.
• Object Color display will show the object’s material color when set to object color.
Workaround: Enable Use Environment Background and Display Background in the Viewport Background settings (Alt+B).
• Locking the computer can cause the viewports to stop responding in some cases.
Workaround: If this occurs, restart the program.
• Mirrored or negatively scaled objects might display face edges incorrectly.
• The Soft selection Shade Face Toggle does not always properly display the shaded faces.
• MassFX constraints can cause Dummy objects not to display in Realistic mode.
• Body Objects display tessellated/triangulated edges instead of the proper Body curves.
• Back faces display as transparent.
• Hidden Line style does not display texture maps in the viewport.
• Tone Mapper used with a Skylight set to use the mr Physical Sky environment will display a black background when enabled.
• Enable Gamma/LUT Correction does not work on stylized viewports.
• Very large textures (10K x 10K) can cause a program error. Workaround: You can control texture sizes with MAXScript:
NitrousGraphicsManager.SetTextureSizeLimit 512 true
NitrousGraphicsManager.SetBackgroundTextureSizeLimit 1024 true
Or by modifying the following keys in 3dsmax.ini:
ViewportTextureSizeLimitEnabled=1
ViewportTextureSizeLimit=512
ViewportBackgroundTextureSizeLimitEnabled=1
You need to restart 3ds Max after making these changes.-Eric

Apr 2, 2013I have a project that I need to map the terrain as a tin solid so that I can do some cut and fill analysis. I have downloaded a orthographic and elevation data from the USGS website. I cannot get AutoCAD civil 3d to create the contours properly.
My current workflow is: use mapwspace to bring up the task pane. Connect to the geotiff image in the 1-153383539 folder. Then I try to create the contours and the option is greyed out.

Nov 26, 2013I'm new to AutoCAD, and especially new to AutoCAD Map 3D. I need to make a plat showing a well location. When using Petra or DrillingInfo, a map can be printed to a DXF. DrillingInfo puts out a DXF with just the 0 layer, and the well spots come in as polyline circles. The DXF Petra puts out opens with different layers and symbology, which I like. It's just that the well spots are blocks, which I do not understand. When I open the Petra map with AutoCAD Map 3D, my well spots are unitless block references, and are tiny specks. I need to resize them so they can be seen.

I just discovered that they've been added to google maps and I was wondering if there's a way to import the cycle routes from an area on google maps into CAD. If not, I can draw them in on the OS but it would be time wasted if there's a way.
I thought maybe on AutoCAD WS on chrome, but it seems limited on the mapping features available.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Plotting Maps And Having Relative Positions Move
Jan 11, 2011I use FDO to connect to an image (NAIP TIF obtained from USGS Seamless Server) and other shape files we created using GPS surveying. I also have contours in the drawing created in Civil 3D and a polygon property boundary from the land surveyor. When viewed in model space everything is very reasonably aligned to the NAIP aerial image.
When I plot the drawing (tried DWG to PDF, our office copier, and a HP DJ500) the map data has shifted relative to the aerial image. The shift is visually quite large. It almost appears that the drawing layers are translated and rotated relative to the aerial photograph.

Apr 12, 2012A co-worker tells me when he opens a drawing then minimizes it and then opens a new drawing to fiddle around with, when he closes it and doesn't save and returns to the first drawing, when he runs commands he gets "No Null Object" errors. He can click OK or whatever on the error messages and continue, but they constantly fly in his face.
He's running AutoCAD 2011 Maps 3D x32 on Windows 7 x64.

I have a project that is 8 miles long so I created all the profile views (18) in one base map drawing using the plan production tool and then they are xrefed into my individual sheets.
I'm finding that doing a save or regen take approx. 30 seconds each time. That seems unusually slow to me.
I asked my reseller about it, and their comment was "We wouldn't recommend that many profile views in one drawing".
I assumed (maybe falsely) that if the plan production tool allowed it, then it should work.
AutoCAD Map 3D :: Manually Redrawing 19th Century Raster Maps?
May 14, 2013I have to redraw 19th century raster maps that cannot be vectorized automatically.
The borders of the parcels are heavily curved.
I insert the raster map and start to trace/draw on a new layer.
1. Now, if I want to draw a second parcel that has a common curvy border with a first parcel how do I best trace the common border? What I would like is that the vertices along the common border are all displayed so I could just click them rapidly to draw the common border of the second parcel. However I cannot find a way to display all vertices. Is there a solution for this?
2. For drawing a new parcel alongside multiple existing parcels, a beter/faster option would be that I just click the vertices on junctions of the common border and the software would automatically trace the line between the junctions, create all vertices and snap them to the existing vertices on the common border of the existing parcel.
AutoCad :: Maps Drawing Units In Yards - Lat / Long Coordinates

Without having the mapping toolbox is there any way to either convert the map units or convert the points? I'm not worried about spherical distortion as the maps are close in.

To use the above mentioned AutoCAD Online components through proxy servers with Authentication enabled, you should enable http (port 80) and https (port 443) access to the following domains in the proxy without Proxy Authentication (i.e. Access for “All users” or Anonymous access through the proxy):

*.cloudfront.net
We don’t proxy ports 80 and 443 directly (we use 8989-9093 for proxy ports), so I don’t see any way of meeting these requirements at the present time, at least in the wired Enterprise network.
