View 2 RepliesBefore moving LR5 to the new computer, I backed up my photographs on an external HD and LR named it Merged catalog.
What steps do I take connect LR5 to the Merged catalog?
I have about 50 images in a LR3 catalog. I modified all the metadata for each. They are all jpegs and were pre-processed by a specialized image editing program before import. I now find I have to replace all 50 with new versions. I really don't want to re-do all the metadata. Is there any way to have LR overwrite the originals leaving the original metadata intact? The file names are the same.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen exporting videofiles (.MTS files, created with Sony NEX6) as high quality mp4 files, LR will not retain the metadata info (especially the DateTimeOriginal field) eventhough I ticked "Include all metadata". (is this a bug???)
I need this metadata to sort the exported files to use them in another app.I have processed the videos in LR, so I cannot export the original files. An alternative would be to let LR rename the output files based on DateTime, but LR will only use the date, not the time.
I recently lost some original files to a hard drive failure. Is there a way for me to retrieve some printable files from LR catalog files?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI received some exported jpgs with presets (edited files). I was supposed to receive the edited original raw files.
I am still learning LR but if they sent me the catalog file (lrcat) would that allow me to "zero" out all the edits they did to the files I have or would they still have to send me the originals?
My external hard drive accidentally fell from my desktop and now I have lost all my raw file. My Lightroom 2 still has the .dng files, can I recover my .dng files without the original raw files?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI edited some tiff files and then exported them as jpg files to a different folder. I want to go back and work on some of the original tiff files but they no longer show up in the lightroom library or develope modules even though they are still on the disk. Lightroom sees the original files in the import dialogue but will not let me reimport them either. The exported jpg files are shown in the library module. How can I work on the original tiff files.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI wish to create DNG files for my existing Lightroom catalogue, but also wishe to retain the original camera RAW images. If this can be done, how I go about it as I seem only to be able to find an option for conversion to DNG only.
View 2 Replies View RelatedKnowing that a retouched photo is stored in a specific folder, how to catalog old files that are not edited? The goal is to have a full match in the catalogs.
View 4 Replies View RelatedCurrently my Catalog and photos reside inside a directory c:/Current (path shortened for simpliicty!) and I want to move the whole lot to a new location on the same drive, c:/NewLoc.
I see many explanations of moving to other drives or machines but cannot find an explanation of a 'simple' move to another directory on the same drive!
Files don't show in catalog. Synchronization shows that the files need to be synched. Whe synchronizing, the files do not import or they show that they are already in the catalog. Yet they do not show in the catalog. How do I fix and not lose my edits.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently moved my photo files to a different harddrive from their original location. Some of these images had been included in "collections" prior to the move. Now, when I open a "collection", the photo files are no longer associated with the collection. How do I reassign a location to these files in these collections?
I have already reassigned the photo files in the catalog to their new harddrive location.
I have LR installed on my MacPro and the Mac just died (graphics card issues). I'm going to just buy a new Mac, though I'm trying to figure out the best way to access everything in LR until then. All of the images and photos are stored on a separate internal drive that I can take out and access via a docking station.
1. Does the license for LR allow me to install a 2nd copy on my Mac notebook?
2. If I place a copy of the LR catalog file on my Mac notebook and plug the photos/videos drive into a docking station connected to my notebook, will everything open up?
I’m teaching a college class and a couple of my students are shooting RAW. When they complete their assignment in Lightroom, they Export as Catalog, compress that folder and submit it to me through Dropbox. This worflow works great with students who shoot .jpg but the kids who are shooting RAW have files that are too large to upload.
View 2 Replies View RelatedLr 4.3 seems to reject (video) files it cannot open, in a Catalog.
A Catalog should contain ALL files, pictures, photos, videos alike.
I do not like the concept of rejecting files. This way e.g . old video files are excluded from a catalog.
How am I to catalog the rejected files?
I just mistakenly deleted all my 5000 dng files, and some xmp files are in the trash too. How do I get them back in the catalog? My last backup says it was after I had deleted them (apparently I set it to auto backup?) My only excuse is that I was in an accident 2 days ago. Maybe shouldn't be doing much in Lightroom~!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Lightroom 2. I have many photo folders on an external drive that show as off-line when I open Lightroom. I can see the photos in Lightroom but can not do anything with them.
How do I reconnect this folders that show off-line and have a ? mark?
Is there an easy way to show all files in a catalog not currently assigned to ANY (non-smart) collection?
Can i set up a Smart Collection to do this?
I'm using 3.6. Can I delete LR2 cat, data and journal files?
View 4 Replies View RelatedImages on my laptop from 2 photoshoots in the studio today were EXPORTED from laptop as catlog and imported to desktop as catalog.
I imported without moving the files anywhere since I was instructed to move that folder to its final resting place.
The 125 images were importred into LR4 but I see they are still CR2 files.
Is there a way to convert these to DNG inplace? or is it safe to re-import these. I don't want the side car gig.
How can I EXCLUDE particular folders/files from being included in the Lightroom 5 catalog?
I want to be able to specify paths and/or filename patterns that should NEVER be indexed in the catalog: not that they don't show up under certain circumstances, just that they are NOT THERE (in the catalog) to begin with!!
I also do NOT want to have to respecify these criteria when "synching" the catalog; criteria should be PERMANENT (or at least 'til they're changed in LR preferences).
My catalog was corrupted, and i decided to create a new catalog from cratch. To my big surprise alle falenames was renamed from IMG_xxxx.cr2 to IMG_xxxx-2.cr2. This is i problem sice i still god the old catalog, and try to recover some of the old editorial settings, but since alle files are renamed the are no longer visible in the old catalog. just about 15.000 files are renamed!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running LR v3.4.1. I have had a single catalog for a long time and it has really effected performance, so I am wanting to move some files out into a separate catalog. Currently, my catalog is on my C: drive, but all of my pictures are on my K: drive, which is external. When I do the export as catalog, it creates the new catalog on my C: drive, but also creates a copy of all of the photos there as well. I want to point the catalog back to the original files on my K: drive so I can remove the ones created during the export process on my C: drive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf I do an import from my memory card, choose my external hard drive as a second location for the import, and then go into my catalog and delete the bad photos, is there any quick way to also remove those files from the backup on the external hard drive? I've got a ton of wasted space on my external HD due to things that I've deleted and don't know of any simple way to get rid of them short of formatting the drive and doing another export, which takes a long time and isn't something I want to do all that often.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a decently organized folder structure with all photos from about 2005 on being organized by year (moved to their corresponding year folder on import from memory card).
However i had about 10,000 or so photos which were placed randomly in folders and sub folders from various backup/restores etc, which were imported into lightroom but not moved into their corresponding year folders.
I just purchased LR5 and i wanted to finally take the time to organize my file folder structure and create a new catalog. Following a method i researched found here: [URL]....
Here is what i did:
1) In Lightroom 4 i highlighted All Photos and saved metadata to file for every photo. (thinking this would keep all original metadata and any adjustments i made on the files)
2) Fired up lightroom 5 and started a new catalog. I then proceeded to import folders from my photo file folder and use the Import and Move option which imported and moved the files into the folders by year.
3) This seemed to work well but it seems i wound up with lots of duplicates (the older photos i had often had filename1.jpg and filename1-2.jpg which were often a cropped dupe) which was not a big deal and still ok so far.
4) I really liked the ability to click on the Year folder in the library and see all the photos for that year but i noticed that TONS of photos were missing within each year.
It turns out that a TON of photos which were in one of their own folders (not by year) folder were moved to 2013 folder and the original capture date had been re-written as 7-24-13 (the import date) overwriting what it was originally there and ruining my organization!
My catalog is a mess, all the files have been moved to a year folder and alot of the years are just plain wrong. I don't want to sort through my entire collection (48,000 photos) and find miss-labeled dates and out of place files!
what can i do to restore the original capture date and put my collection back in the proper order?
I loaded Photoshop 10 and then imported/moved my catalogs from Photoshop 6. They are all scrambled - do not honor import dates/sequence and have dates and file names all intermingled. It is really a screwed up mess. I haven't found a way to unscrew it! - Or tell me I get to live with it!
