Lightroom :: Decreasing Dynamical Range In 3?
Nov 24, 2013
I'm trying to emulate this cool sort-of-film-like look that's been so popular lately on various places around the web, namely with decreased dynamical range. In Photoshop you can do it just by adjusting the output levels. How to do the same in Lightroom? The only thing I could think of was pushing the Fill Light slider to extremes, but it doesn't o the job. I'm on Lr3.

Just finished a quickie test drive of Lightroom 4, shown here for one particularly challenging wedding photo I captured a couple of years ago:
[URL]
I've read some claims that LR 4 gives 1 more stop of DR. I think they really mean that LR 4 puts the DR already present in the RAW file to better use than previous versions, but setting that quibble aside.

is there any way to make gradyally decreasing in size circles in photoshop. like on car windshields in edges if you noticed, starts from black and then it sort of fades away with pattern.
Falftone effect creates crappy jagged circles. I am attaching approximately what Im talking about, manually made every layer for it...

I have ProX3 and am trying to create .mov PhotoJPEG video clips. I'm trying to decrease the compression quality since I'm uploading these clips to stock video footage websites. However, when I go to export the video, under the Compression screen the Quality area is grayed out at 100% and won't let me move the tab over to decrease it. How to change it?

i've managed to layer a scanned drawing (and edit it and all) over the given template... but when i drag it over, it's HUGE. so of course, i haev to decrease the size so it fits on the t shirt template...
and when i decrease the size, it gets grainy and pixilated... and i can't have that happen! especially on a t shirt design... it's supposed to be a a solid, single line...

In my case value 1 is opacity which has range about (0;100>
I find [decrease value 1 more] shortcut not significant enough for it changes value by 10 points, while [decrease value 1 relative] when its value is (50;100> also changes it by about 10 points and even less when its value is below about 50.
My question is: Is it possible to set two new shortcuts (increasing and decreasing) value 1 by 25 points? Is there maybe a recording option in gimp like in photoshop.

I made a time lapse video which I then saved as a .VSP file. Then i open a new project and import the VSP file as a video. Then I made some color corrections including an extra point or two of saturation, contrast and brightness. After exporting the video as a 1920x1080 WMV or MP4, i notice a significant reduction in quality compared to the ones where i did not make color corrections. The video appears blurrier like it was exported at a lower resolution. Modifying any of the sliders appears to trigger the effect. I duplicated the problem with a time lapse project consisting of just 5 pictures so there is nothing else in the project. No animations, titles or anything.

I'm currently working on a model where I'm subjecting a vertical wire (5 micron radius, 20 micron height) to a transverse load. I made an assembly of a 18 micron length section and a 2 micron length section, so that I can apply my force to the 2 micron tip, while leaving the bottom face of the wire fixed. I am trying to find the minimal force needed to fracture the wire (i.e., altering the force until the max stress hits the material's ultimate tensile strength). However, I've realized that decreasing the mesh size drastically changes my results, Obviously, decreasing mesh size should increase the accuracy of the results. Instead, by decreasing the mesh size, I actually am diverging from my results.

I find myself in the unfortunate position of having to resize a lot of text by one point size. So I wanted to find the key command for decreasing the text size by 1 point. I found several things online that worked... except they decrease it by TWO points. Not one. They are:
Command Shift <
and
Command Shift .
Both work... except they decrease the font by 2 point sizes. How can I make it go down only ONE point size?
PS I'm using CS4. And I can't select all the text because I need some of it to stay as is... while reducing the size of other text. Oh, and I'm on an iMac.

I would like to be able to create a box around text that is able to resize when increasing/decreasing font.
My working solution is to create a text box with text then use direct selection tool to select the anchors and convert that into a shape, either a rectangle or rounded rectangle. This isn't bad since it allows an equal amount of space around the text but it does have problems. If the font size increases or decreases, the box remains the same. I have to use the Area Type Option to resize the box. Also, if I wanted to do this for lots of boxes then I have to select all of the individual anchors which will be time consuming.

I am trying to learn how to use colour range in PS 5.5.
I select the eyedropper & click on a spot inside the area I want to select.
The fuzziness bar in the dialog box is supposed to have a triangle to slide & a value box. Instead the fuzziness bar and the value box are grayed out. There is no triangle to slide. I am unable to set the fuzziness tolerance.
How do I get the fuzziness function to work?

I was really excited to find that Max 2013 was able to import a range of CAD files, namely STEP.
Well, the good news is the import works well and the Body Objects look nice. The bad news is that there is no option at import time to specify course settings for the viewport display mesh. No problem I thought, I'll change them to "course" with the Body Utility and that should speed things up. Max crashed evertime I tried to do this, even with just 2 or 3 items selected.
Having given up with importing STEP, I tried the same assembly as a SAT file (about 100Mb). Importing SAT does give you the option to set the viewport model to a course setting (which is good) but only provides a marginal increase in speed. On the whole the model is unworkable. You can't select the component you want as the system will select some other part that you don't want and the lag is just unbelievable.
To put things into perspective I've used Max 2011 to import huge (1GB+) Formula One engine assemblies using nPower's Power Translators plugin. On the whole it worked well, I was able to work relatively fast and got the job done. While I understand that the Body Object is a subset of the nPower plugin, I think the implementation into Max 2013 has gone wrong somewhere.
My pain-free solution is to stick with Max 2011 until 2013 gets fixed, which is a shame as I really wanted to embrace the new version into my work.

This is the scenario.
I select a text in the doc, then run a command.
The command provides a unique id for the selected text range.
I use that id (may be at later point of time, may be after close/reopen of file) and run another command that selects that range using id and performs some operations.
Questions:
Is textrange associated with a unique id? (I am guessing yes, atleast internally) How do I get this id? Will this id be consistent accross sessions? (even if I close and open the file does it remain same)

Using Mac OS 10.6.8 and recently updated Photoshop to version 13.0.4. Select color range is not working properly. Won't select black or white in a black on white logo. Created layer with half green and half red. Select color range will work (in a strange fashion linked to the invert button on the pop up screen) for green half but not red half. Majic wand works fine for either but I must use select color range quite a bit in my work flow.
Is this a compatibility issue or a bug? Have found a couple of recent references to same thing specifically to Photoshop versions 13.0.4 on web but no information on cause or correction. Currently downloading 13.0.4 update again and will reinstall to see if that fixes problem but would like to know if I have to go back to previous version to recapture functionality.

I am trying to select all the objects in a particular color range and then export the color histogram stats of those objects as one object.. In my photo, the object is broken up but I can't seem to figure out how to group the different pieces together.. Currently, when I go to 'export data' after recording it, it gives me a histogram for every single thing selected.

I am trying to create a children's textile/wallpaper design portfolio digitally and I'd like to know how to change a scan of a hand-painted motif into a tonal range of 1 colour in photoshop.
I discovered the duotone trick, but this changes the whole file (whilst flattening all layers), whereas I want the flexibility of being able to change the motifs on each layer to different colours
I've tried options in the adjustment bar, however these just add colour to the existing colour. Say I have a pink image and want to make it yellow, using the adjustment bar options always seems to keeps an amount of pink in it so it never becomes a true bright yellow, it will always have a browny tinge to it. Also the tiny colour wheel bar in the Hue/Saturation option isn't ideal at picking an exact colour.
My main aim is to try and incorporate my sketches & paintings into my designs, to allow me to work quicker rather than purely working by hand, so I want the flexibility of being able to easily changing colours as I create each design.

When I want to use the "Eyedrop" tool to pick up the RGB value of a colour, and zoom in to pick up an individual pixel, the pixels change in colour to go with the shades of the picture. Is there anyway to expand the range of the tool to a greater pixel range to get the basic idea of what the value of the colour is?

After invoking the color range command, I movedmy eye dropper over the image, (in this case, the large cloud) and clicked. Nothing is selected...nothing appears in the preview window. Alone, the eyedropper tool works well.
I tried color range with different images with the same result. Using the same images with the exact settings, I then tested them using color range in CS5.2 . It worked properly.
I'm using CS6 13.0.4 x64 on an iMAC OS 10.8.2.

I have Adobe CS6 Design Standard student and teacher edition. The package includes Photoshop CS6, version 13.0.1 x64. In Photoshop CS6, when I bring up the Select Color Range dialog, I see the correct dialog box, but the main image of the photo on my screen changes to a black and white display that looks like the preview of a color range mask in the dialog box, instead of the normal full color image I should see. This occurs whether or not I have yet made a selection. Here is a screen photo of this incorrect display:
This problem does not occur when I use Photoshop CS2 on the same computer. Here is a photo of the correct display in Photoshop CS2:
On November 20, I spoke with an Adobe support person on the telephone. I was unable to describe the problem in a way that the support person could grasp, and the case No. 0184920291 description is now listed as "effect doesn't come with color sliders". It is impossible to use the selection eyedropper to select a color from an image displayed as a monochrome mask.
