Recently upgraded and am trying to Import Raw photos. The are imported into Lightroom but show up as grey tiles and will not open. When I go to Photoshop CS-5, they open fine. I had this problem when I first opened the program and it was a monitor problem. I got it corrected with tech support then and as I remember it was sRGB problem.
View 1 RepliesWhen importing images, the filename prefix, image number, directory, and other attributes are "sticky" between imports (they're remembered so you don't have to enter them again for the subsequent import), however the keywords aren't remembered. I'd suggest they should, just as the other attributes are. Wandering through the discussions, it appears the import dialog keyword field was sticky in 2009. Did it change or is there an options setting somewhere I can't find that would toggle this behavior?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Lightroom 4 and CS6 on a win7/64 PC. When I edit a Lightroom photo in CS6 and save it back to Lightroom as a PSD, I notice that the PSD is slightly more yellow than the original Lightroom image. This is verified in the PSD histogram, where the yellow portion is a little larger and uniform than the RAW version histogram.
This happens whether I export in 16 bit AdobeRGB (1998), and Photoshop is also set to edit in 16 bit AdobeRGB (1998), or both are set to ProphotoRGB. The yellow shift can be seen when comparing a photo prior to and after Photoshop adjustment (no tonal adjustment made in Photoshop) in Lightroom and also when comparing the Lightroom photo and the picture in Photoshop as soon as it is imported. My monitor was calibrated about a month ago, so that is unlikely to be the problem.
Sometimes it claims to have imported but the files are not available. Sometimes it imports some but not all the files selected.

Luckily, I exported the edits as jpgs so at least have the edited images saved elsewhere, but only my most recent imports show up in the LR catalog. I'm a relatively experienced LR user, and don't know what suddenly went wrong.
View 10 Replies View RelatedYesterday I did a tethered portrait shoot into LR and at one point LR failed to capture some images. Therefore, after the shoot, I imported the CF-card using my card reader and ticked the "don't import suspected duplicates". Still LR imported all images and whenever it found a duplicate, instead of ignoring it, LR just renamed the file with "-2" at the end of the file name. This doesn't look right to me.
Is this a bug, should LR function like this or is there something that I've missed? Shouldn't LR at least ask me if I want to rename, overwrite or ignore?What can I do to avoid this issue in the future? When I try ti import I get this error message: 'Error loading toolkit script 'ImportCompactDataSource (not enough memory)' And I can't import anything. I can't seem to fid a common error online, either.
I've already tried purging the cache in preferences. Didn't seem to work.
I've been importing lots of photos from my hard drive into lightroom and been moving/renaming them in the process. I only got lightroom a few weeks ago.
This has worked fine but i've recently imported a few hundred photos off my iphone and doing the same thing - move and rename. The trouble is, these photos keep going into the 2009 folder, instead of the 2012 or 2013 folders that they should be. When i look at the photos, they have the correct name, and the capture date seems to be correct, its just lightroom keeps wanting to put them in the wrong folder by year.
naturally I want all my photos sorted into the right date folders as this is the way ive decided to organise my photos...
My photos are showing up in previous imports but not in their folder.

I have the "do not import suspected" checked, but LR5 does not exclude the old files. Import has Copy, New Photos and Do not import suspected duplicates checked. No problem with LR4.4 on imports
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've a CPU with four cores and also enabled hyperthreading.
But if I do an import by Lightroom it uses at best 25 % of my overall CPU performance.
If it would start many low prio threads, it would speed up my import a lot, as I've import very often 2,000 up to 8,000 pictures.
In my case it could speed up the process by factor 4. And that would be great, as also an Intel i7 with 3.4 GHz has a lot of work to do, so the import of 2,000 images takes in my case perhaps 15 or 20 minutes. I did not watch the time.
Is there any chance, to tell Lightroom to use more threads and spread them over all the (virtual) CPUs?
Why won't LR5 save my original RAW imports from D7100. I can import them and process them but the originals are then lost. What am I doing wrong? With every other camera the original RAW image is saved in the library.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI must preface this by saying that I am new to LR4 and I have been trying to follow instructions in a popular book as to creating collections, etc. I have been trying to create collections and organize photos. I recently shot a wedding and went through about 900 photos and whittled it down to 350 and now today for some reason I decided to back up a previous catalog and now everything I did yesterday appears to be gone and the only photos that I see in LR are those bridal photos in that catalog.
I know that this is the most amateaur of questions, but what in the world have I done, and can I recover that previous import and the changes I made to them?
can I alter the BACKGROUND COLOUR from the Grey to a lighter grey as in P/Shop Album 2.00 which is just what I want..I hate the darker colour as background..I have just purchased the Elements 11.

This works perfectly for quickly assessing brightness and contrast of pictures.
In pse 10 however I could not find any button to change the preset lightgrey background colour to darkgrey.
I am currently running Map 3D 2012 with CadWorx and I am having an issue with one of my multi tab drawings. Any object set to plot grey (any grey), that is in paper space, is plotting black only in one of my layouts. similar objects in model space and in both spaces on other layouts are all plotting accordingly.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded to LR5.3 and have now noticed an issue when importing photos. When importing in to one folder (as a sub folder), the photos are imported correctly, - on disk they appear in the correct place, howevr in the folder panel, the sub-folder is shown outside of the main folder.
Imort settings are:
Note , on disk the folder '20131226 - Boxing Day' appears correctly (These are all under a root folder 'Photos - LR Masters')
However, in the LR Folder Panel, the folder '20131226 - Boxong Day' appears outside of the 'Photos - LR Masters'
If I attempt to move the folder by dragging, I get an error that the folder already exists.
I try to use the color grey its always redish grey and never grey.
I tried changing my color settings from photoshop but it still wont work.
lightroom 4. Every box in filmstrip or main is greyed out.
tried optimizing catalog, tried launching other catalogs. all is the same. i cant see any pics no matter what i doi re-installed the display driver.
everything else on the computer looks fine. its weird. histograms show in devolop module, and the folders show on the botttom. nothing reporting as missing. where i can look in win 7 system?
I have upgraded my Lightroom from 5.0 to the new update, so I am using Lightroom 5.2 . Yesterday I went into my old Lightroom 4 on my computer, retrieved a photo, exported it and shut down. Late last night I went to open Lightroom 5.2 and when I did all the photos are a screen of light grey with a light grey border. It seems all the date is there, but no photos show in either Lightroom 5.2 or Lightroom 4.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a large single catalogue of photos. Some of the thumbnails in the library are now appearing greyed out. I think they were all there a few days ago, and since then the only things I have done are upload more images, cull those I did not want and backup the catalogue. I do not recall having this issue with LR3, and they all seemed OK when I upgraded to LR4. I have restarted LR several times, and it makes no difference. My Mac tells me all programs are up to date.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I import images I cannot see them in the previews. I have set 1:1, standard, and minimal but it makes no difference. The images show as grey in the preview. When I go to the develop modual I can see the image I select but if I select another image the first goes gray again. For some reason I cannot render previews. Have I turned something off or on? Can I render previews after importing images? The files show up as DNG in my hard drive.

The upper-right thumbnail is most selected, and the one to the right of it is selected. But why do the remaining thumbnails have two different shades of grey?
Using LR 3, my finished JPG files, exported from RAW, still show a transparent grey area after image straightening/crop is applied. The problem only occurs once images are uploaded via FTP and viewed in Fotostation software.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have seen a problem like this before, and raised a question on the forum, but realised what was wrong (the problem happened on a full colour image, and once I set the Process to 2012 it went away). However it has cropped up again, and this time the image was imported directly into LR4 so Process was 2012 by default.
I have an image which is a glass with liquid in against a black background. I have made a few tweaks in LR and am ready to send it off for printing. I just though I would take a look in Soft Proofing to see how the coloured liquid looked. When I click soft proofing and choose the correct profile supplied by my printing company (which is a 'glossy' profile), the black takes on a milky grey appearance, but according to LR is not out of Gamut.
If I choose the matt profile from my printing company, the same effect is there, but less so.
I rather think that this is quirk of softproofing black, what with black not actually being a colour and all that. Since there are no gamut warnings, and I have never had a problem with printed images on a black background, then I think I should ignore this. It does give a rather mis-leading impression though.
Using Lightroom 5.2 on a Windows 7 PC. I used to see a grey icon in the upper right corner of an image on the filmstrip to show it has been selected as part of my quick collection. I could also click in the top right corner to add an image to the quick collection. Now no grey dot is visible and clicking in the top right corner does not add the image. My only option is to hit the B key to add. I suspect it is related to Flash. I have the latest version installed but in some cases when browsing in IE, I'm asked to install Flash even though it is installed and verified on the Adobe site.

Photos in whatever module cannot dispaly images after having worked properly for a while in any module no image display but grey rectangles... asking for "display in the explorer" shows in superposition that images are ther...
catalogue seems ok (structure and all, metadata are ok, in the development module memory has been kept of photos adjustment...
Re-opening catalog or optimizing does not have any effect....
Quiting LR is just abrupt with no asking for back-up...
A friend of mine has been happily using / importing Sony Nex 7 Raw images into Lightroom 4.2 / 4.3 for a long time when suddenly this happens.
Note the grey border all around the image.
This file was imported with: No develop presetNo metadata preset.Process 2012.Various std in the box profiles. Here is a screen paste of the file dimensions (also showing that it is a raw file and not cropped).
All Sony Nex raw files imported to a particular machine (Win 7, 64 bit) demonstrate this behaviour. So, in trying to trace the problem.
The crop tool was checked to make sure there was no crop applied. They grey border is not just a visual border. If you examine the jpg it is actually grey pixels consuming a large percentage of the native 6000x4000 Nex 7 resolution.The Reset button was pressed also,to make sure the raw file conversion was restored to basecamp.History reset.A raw image imported into the same machine / software from a Nikon D300 behaves perfectly.Previously imported Nex 7 Raw images are ok.When the images are imported into two other machines they imports perfectly.Scrapping the preference file makes no difference.Overlay mode was checked, an overlay image loaded and then overlay mode turned off… just to make sure this was NO overlay.Applying a crop and then removing a crop still leaves the grey border.Applying the crop reduces the image dimensions to approx.. 4946 x 3293. Exporting an image to jpg (as shown) leaves image with grey border. This grey border can be cropped out, but it means the resolution will reduce.Exploring various scene modes / in camera crops / resolution settings on the camera does not seem to make any difference.Formatting the card in the camera, take a picture, import directly from card. 3 different cards used. (No change).When using the Catelog on a different machine the grey border remains.
NB Camera set to RAW + jpeg. Jpeg's import without border.
So finally last night…
……. we uninstalled Lightroom 4.3 and re-installed into a different folder. (No change).
