On import lightroom 5.3 still does not recognize previous imports of the same file name. I have the "do not import suspected" checked, but LR5 does not exclude the old files. Import has Copy, New Photos and Do not import suspected duplicates checked. No problem with LR4.4 on imports

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just recently started seeing something strange in my lightroom 5 library. There are two copies of some of my CR2 files. One copy is the original import, such as flower.cr2. This file has none of my edits, just the import. The second copy is called flower-2.cr2. This file has import and all of my edits.
When I originally edited the flower file, there was only the original. Most of my photos are as they should be, with just one CR2 file that includes the import and all of my edits.what could be going on with my library/catalog?
I see I have some Files with a little notice on top saying 1of2. Now when I click the delete option, it only offer the usual way to delete from catalog or move from disk, but where do I choose to just delete one of the duplicates?

View 16 Replies View RelatedI moved my images to an external drive through LR5.2. Everything is working great except there are 6 files (organized by date) that LR says already exist on the external drive. They are not on the external drive and I can't seem to get LR to move them. Everything is in date order, so it's easy to see thay they are not there. How to move these files? BTW this has happened with more than one batch move... now I have a few dates from each move that remain on my computer leaving holes in the file dates on the external drive.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using Light room 5..upgraded from 3.Discovered Light room had been sending images into my music folder called 2013 as well as the picture folder I chose as export destination.Editing was showing in both.
I thought this was just virtual copy, not to worry.. until I tried to delete it in my music folder..and the recycle bin found the folder too large and only the option was to delete permanently? Seriously a huge file! (in a very short time) So I did delete folder 2013 ..and another folder was recreated in my music folder (2013) with the very next edit.
I created a new catalogue “going in the back door of Light room”.. and moved this "music folder" into pictures folder within Light room as well and then clicked the option of always load this new catalogue on start up. Tried another edit this morning.
If I import a whole folder of mixed RAW and jpeg images, but only edit one. The whole imported selection will be sent to my music folder..and where Lightroom can only find the images.
If I delete this folder and go back to the original RAW file in Light room..a preview of the image cannot be shown in develop module...although the image can be developed.
Plus...the original RAW file is still in the original folder within the picture folder as well...and the edited picture is in a separate correct picture folder where I intended it to go. So It seems I am duplicating the RAW files into this very mysterious folder as soon as I import them.
Recently upgraded and am trying to Import Raw photos. The are imported into Lightroom but show up as grey tiles and will not open. When I go to Photoshop CS-5, they open fine. I had this problem when I first opened the program and it was a monitor problem. I got it corrected with tech support then and as I remember it was sRGB problem.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen importing images, the filename prefix, image number, directory, and other attributes are "sticky" between imports (they're remembered so you don't have to enter them again for the subsequent import), however the keywords aren't remembered. I'd suggest they should, just as the other attributes are. Wandering through the discussions, it appears the import dialog keyword field was sticky in 2009. Did it change or is there an options setting somewhere I can't find that would toggle this behavior?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Lightroom 4 and CS6 on a win7/64 PC. When I edit a Lightroom photo in CS6 and save it back to Lightroom as a PSD, I notice that the PSD is slightly more yellow than the original Lightroom image. This is verified in the PSD histogram, where the yellow portion is a little larger and uniform than the RAW version histogram.
This happens whether I export in 16 bit AdobeRGB (1998), and Photoshop is also set to edit in 16 bit AdobeRGB (1998), or both are set to ProphotoRGB. The yellow shift can be seen when comparing a photo prior to and after Photoshop adjustment (no tonal adjustment made in Photoshop) in Lightroom and also when comparing the Lightroom photo and the picture in Photoshop as soon as it is imported. My monitor was calibrated about a month ago, so that is unlikely to be the problem.
LR 3 just recently stopped saving my imports into the folders. Luckily, I exported the edits as jpgs so at least have the edited images saved elsewhere, but only my most recent imports show up in the LR catalog. I'm a relatively experienced LR user, and don't know what suddenly went wrong.
View 10 Replies View RelatedYesterday I did a tethered portrait shoot into LR and at one point LR failed to capture some images. Therefore, after the shoot, I imported the CF-card using my card reader and ticked the "don't import suspected duplicates". Still LR imported all images and whenever it found a duplicate, instead of ignoring it, LR just renamed the file with "-2" at the end of the file name. This doesn't look right to me.
Is this a bug, should LR function like this or is there something that I've missed? Shouldn't LR at least ask me if I want to rename, overwrite or ignore?What can I do to avoid this issue in the future? When I try ti import I get this error message: 'Error loading toolkit script 'ImportCompactDataSource (not enough memory)' And I can't import anything. I can't seem to fid a common error online, either.
I've already tried purging the cache in preferences. Didn't seem to work.
I've been importing lots of photos from my hard drive into lightroom and been moving/renaming them in the process. I only got lightroom a few weeks ago.
This has worked fine but i've recently imported a few hundred photos off my iphone and doing the same thing - move and rename. The trouble is, these photos keep going into the 2009 folder, instead of the 2012 or 2013 folders that they should be. When i look at the photos, they have the correct name, and the capture date seems to be correct, its just lightroom keeps wanting to put them in the wrong folder by year.
naturally I want all my photos sorted into the right date folders as this is the way ive decided to organise my photos...
Starting this week, when I print my note cards from LR, the greenish line (aproximately 1/8") is added to the top of every photo. It's not noticable if I do draft mode printing. Also, if I print to jpeg file, then print this file outside LR, it's not there. I blamed it on 3.6 upgrade first, rolled back to 3.5, but it haven't solved the problem. I'm on Windows 7 and HP Photosmart Premium C309a printer. I really need to print lots of cards and I cannot!
Addition on 12/17/11 - the line is not noticable on black or any darker color.
My photos are showing up in previous imports but not in their folder.

But if I do an import by Lightroom it uses at best 25 % of my overall CPU performance.
If it would start many low prio threads, it would speed up my import a lot, as I've import very often 2,000 up to 8,000 pictures.
In my case it could speed up the process by factor 4. And that would be great, as also an Intel i7 with 3.4 GHz has a lot of work to do, so the import of 2,000 images takes in my case perhaps 15 or 20 minutes. I did not watch the time.
Is there any chance, to tell Lightroom to use more threads and spread them over all the (virtual) CPUs?
Why won't LR5 save my original RAW imports from D7100. I can import them and process them but the originals are then lost. What am I doing wrong? With every other camera the original RAW image is saved in the library.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI must preface this by saying that I am new to LR4 and I have been trying to follow instructions in a popular book as to creating collections, etc. I have been trying to create collections and organize photos. I recently shot a wedding and went through about 900 photos and whittled it down to 350 and now today for some reason I decided to back up a previous catalog and now everything I did yesterday appears to be gone and the only photos that I see in LR are those bridal photos in that catalog.
I know that this is the most amateaur of questions, but what in the world have I done, and can I recover that previous import and the changes I made to them?
when making no changes to an AI CS5 file, it still asks if I want to save the changes.
steps:
-open Draw- open an AI file- make no changes- when closing Draw, it asks --> do you want to save the changes?also, when you open "fileName. ai" Draw doesn't remember the file's name
I mentioned this in passing in another thread, and apparently this works with CS2 AI files. I'm using CS5 AI files... I don't know about the other versions. obviously, the name should be shown in the titlebar
and... when the file name is really really long / complicated it's handy if Draw remembers it so I can easily make a Draw CDR copy without having to type in the exact name again. Also, I shouldn't have to type in the name when I want to export as jpg (or whatever format).
How can I sort the files by filename in Media view in Elements Organizer 11?
I know I can do this in Windows Explorer, but it's important that I be able to do this in PSE, because I have a lot of files, and managing them is getting time-consuming.
I would like to add the filename to a caption - or even better, just the file sequence number.

I would like to find out if it is possible to rename filename in LR 5 (after importing the images) without changing the original filename in EXIF metadata? For example the original filename is DSC_1234.NEF and I would like to rename it to 'Hawaii_1234.NEF' in the catalog and also the filename in HDD, but woud like to keep the original 'DSC_1234.NEF' in Metadata.
Seems like LR will also rename filename in Metadata though I read previously renaming after import (through Library - Rename Photo option) will not alter the 'original' filename in Metadata.
I'm using LR 3.5, and am wondering if I can have the filenames show on the images when I export them. If so, how do I make that happen? I am already watermarking a copyright script, which I suppose I could change to include the image name, but that would be pretty tiresome to do. I assume there is an easy way to do this that I just haven't found.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've got a hard drive publish service setup, which renames photos using the "Custom Name - Sequence" option. After this option in the publishing manager is a "Custom Text" field where you can set the name prefix.
I've found that if you change this and save, the publishing service doesn't seem to notice - i.e. anything I republish still uses the old prefix.
Something funny is going on here, that text field isn't doing what it's supposed to do. It seems each published folder stores the "Custom Text" upon creation, and doesn't check the publishing manager for updates.

I use LR3 extensively for tethered capture and think that Adobe did a great job for the first release of this feature but one critical option is missing.
I use tethered capture with the 'shot name' option selected which is great becasue it puts the different shots into their own folder in the catalog but it would be even more useful if there was a way to have the shot name included in the filename that is saved. I have played around with the custom filename options, which are extensive, but the shot name option isnt available. Is there a way to do this?
