Lightroom :: Duplicate Raw Files In LR5
Nov 8, 2013
I have just recently started seeing something strange in my lightroom 5 library. There are two copies of some of my CR2 files. One copy is the original import, such as flower.cr2. This file has none of my edits, just the import. The second copy is called flower-2.cr2. This file has import and all of my edits.
When I originally edited the flower file, there was only the original. Most of my photos are as they should be, with just one CR2 file that includes the import and all of my edits.what could be going on with my library/catalog?

I see I have some Files with a little notice on top saying 1of2. Now when I click the delete option, it only offer the usual way to delete from catalog or move from disk, but where do I choose to just delete one of the duplicates?

I'm using LR 4.3 and CS5, with ACR 6.7 installed. Whenever I'm using "Edit in PS CS5" comand inside LR, automatically I'm getting a duplicate TIFF file added to my LR catalog. How can I avoid this?

I moved my images to an external drive through LR5.2. Everything is working great except there are 6 files (organized by date) that LR says already exist on the external drive. They are not on the external drive and I can't seem to get LR to move them. Everything is in date order, so it's easy to see thay they are not there. How to move these files? BTW this has happened with more than one batch move... now I have a few dates from each move that remain on my computer leaving holes in the file dates on the external drive.

I am using Light room 5..upgraded from 3.Discovered Light room had been sending images into my music folder called 2013 as well as the picture folder I chose as export destination.Editing was showing in both.
I thought this was just virtual copy, not to worry.. until I tried to delete it in my music folder..and the recycle bin found the folder too large and only the option was to delete permanently? Seriously a huge file! (in a very short time) So I did delete folder 2013 ..and another folder was recreated in my music folder (2013) with the very next edit.
I created a new catalogue “going in the back door of Light room”.. and moved this "music folder" into pictures folder within Light room as well and then clicked the option of always load this new catalogue on start up. Tried another edit this morning.
If I import a whole folder of mixed RAW and jpeg images, but only edit one. The whole imported selection will be sent to my music folder..and where Lightroom can only find the images.
If I delete this folder and go back to the original RAW file in Light room..a preview of the image cannot be shown in develop module...although the image can be developed.
Plus...the original RAW file is still in the original folder within the picture folder as well...and the edited picture is in a separate correct picture folder where I intended it to go. So It seems I am duplicating the RAW files into this very mysterious folder as soon as I import them.

On import lightroom 5.3 still does not recognize previous imports of the same file name. I have the "do not import suspected" checked, but LR5 does not exclude the old files. Import has Copy, New Photos and Do not import suspected duplicates checked. No problem with LR4.4 on imports

I was working in Corel PaintShop Pro x4 when I noticed that there was an additional tab that was named the same as the file that I was currently working on but they were numbered 1 and 2. As I work on one file the other updates at the same time. I tried selecting "duplicate" under Windows but this duplicates the window as "Image #" and does not update when I change the original file.

An IPN file is showing multiple assembly files in it's browser even though I have confirmed there is only one of the assemblies in the IAM file.
I'm not sure if it's causing any real difficulty in the IDW views but it's not giving me any confidence.
When is the poor, undercared-for part of the software going to get an overhaul?

I have a bunch of photos that are duplicates -- exact duplicates, with the same filename and date taken etc, but stored in different folders.
The Duplicate Photo Search function finds pictures that look the same.
Why isn't there a function that finds photos with the same filenames and date/time? That way you could easily delete the duplicates.

So, I use many of the same brushes. If I copy a path from a file that uses a certian brush to another file that uses the same brush, I get a duplicate of the brush in the brush panel.
Can I stop this from happening?

I'm using Elements Organizer 11.0 with Windows 8. These temp files have been a problem in at least the previous three versions of PSE with the previous three versions of Windows.
Scenario: Suspiciously low on disk space
Problem: Found thousands of duplicate image files in Windows temp folder (ex. C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalTemp)
PSE creates these files and never deletes them AFAICS after exiting the program, rebooting, using the Windows 'Disk Cleanup' utility, optimizing the catalog, etc. I found no user preference for deleting temp files or limiting them to a particular size.
These can be created for many reasons, but one sure way to do this is to choose File>Save Metada to Files. (If you don't have any images selected it will attempt to do this for all files displayed.) In my case it makes a duplicate of my 29MB CR2 file and a backup of the associated 4KB XMP file. I've used Windows' fc.exe utility to verify that the CR2 is exactly the same, byte for byte.
Is PSE designed to leave these around for us to clean up after they consume the entire hard disk? Am I missing something?

The new ability to allow duplication of an adjustment brush marker is great, but I can't seem to find a way to place/move the duplicate. It seems to just get dropped right overtop of the original which makes it completely indistinguishable. Seems the only way to access the original marker(s) underneath is to delete the one(s) on top. Am I missing something?

I have recently undertaken to run a serious test of LR 1.2--as I did with previous versions-- to see if it was at the stage of development where it would improve my workflow over my present applications. Most everything is much better than before, but I have discovered a killer bug.
I work in a group of four other photographers. We are constantly mixing and matching images from our various DBs/shots for client presentations, frequently mixing shots already in a DB with some that are recent and not yet DBed In the end, of course, we want one DB that incorporates all our collective images. This arrangement lends itself to imports that often will contain duplicates of given, uniquely identified, images.
I discovered that even with the box checked to not import duplicates, that LR is hopelessly inconsistent in stopping the import of absolutely identical files with absolutely identical names, extensions, metadata, etc.
As a test, I imported a set of 50 images--various formats, etc--all of which were in LR already. I ran the test three times. The first test resulted in LR identifying 3 dups, the second test 17 dups, and the third 13 dups. I also tried this test using images that were in two separate LR catalogues--identical in every respect. LR did not identify even one duplicate image of the fifty in this case.

I am having an issue with moving or adding DNG's to lightroom after a conversion is performed by Adobe DNG converter ~ lightroom is creating a 2nd folder within the folder I created ~ each folder is having the new, converted images uploaded, therefore creating duplicates.

When I go to import photos from my external drive into lightroom 5 i am unable to select any of the photos because it says that "this appears to be a duplicate of another photo in the catalog" . This means I may have imported them previously but I cannot find where i imported them to. Is there any way that i can find the photo in the catalog? When i click on Library and Find and search for any of the file names it none of them ever come up. I can uncheck "Don't import suspected duplicates" but i would rather make sure that i did my best to look for the previous import.

By mistake I have imported presets twice and as they are huge in numbers, I would like to know a method to delete those duplicate presets using an easy method.
Note: I don't want to find every duplicate preset one by one and thus asking for a solution to find all the duplicate presets at once and then delete it.

I have two machines running LR3, a mac laptop and a windoze desktop. Both are using local disk and a central NAS. All files use sidecar (XMP) files.
Frequently I'll copy my pictures directory over to the NAS to back it up or, if I'm upgrading the big windoze box, I'll copy it's images over to the NAS in a different directory. I've also been known to prune the local folders since I know they're backed up and because I need the space for a project. This creates a situation where one folder on the NAS may have duplicate subfolders (say "2008 May") same as the notebook but may also have folders (say "2008 November") that don't exist on the notebook.
I could live happily with this mess except that now I want to make one big master catalog of ALL the images on the NAS, minus the duplicates. In other words, I want to clean stuff up.
If I just import the photos (as opposed to the catalog) I get the duplicates removed but then I lose all the collection sets and previews. If I import the catalogs then I get the collections and previews but I also get duplicates.
What I want is either a tool, or a means in LR3 to eliminate (or merge) the duplicates.
It could be an external file utility that compares two directories and eliminates the duplicates (followed by a LR3 catalog cleanup of missing files) or a way to import the catalogs, remove the duplicate entries and then export as a single file structure.

How to instruct LR to import the RAW files only if JPEG duplicates exist and to import JPEG if there is no RAW?

I did a filter/sort across 100's of folders then exported the results to a separate folder. I later noticed way too many duplicates in the new folder. Does Lightroom have a feature to automatically remove or eliminate duplicates when doing such a process?

I keep recreating my directory tree to fix this, but LR keeps recreating a folder with the same name as my import folder. So imagine my overall structure is:
Mac Hard Drive
LR Photos
Many folders, including ...
Imports
---
LR will create a new directory reference at the top of the list of directories, in lowercase. So at the top of the directory list, you'll see, after an import ...
lr photos (note lowercase)
Imports
I'm attaching a screenshot ... (with lots of folder names deleted obviously)
It seems like it's related to the import process, but i never manually type or change during imports -- i leave it alone, and yet it makes this new lowercase reference. (it does not actually create new folders on the hard drive.)

duplicate folders being created with Lightroom 4.3 on import?
When I import photos, they go to a folder with a name "XXX" for example.
The folder is in a hierarchy of "2013, March, XXX".
Lightroom creates a folder here and above 2013! It is making a mess of my library.
Also, when I import using Photo Mechanic (great software that just works!) and then do a "synchronize folder" in Lightroom, only 1 photo is transferred.

I downloaded some camera profiles from the net, I placed the .dcp files in the right place and now I can use them, except for the following problem: TWO of these profiles having a (of course) different file name, share the same internal name ("Standard").I'd like to give credit to the original author and (say) rename it to "Standard made by XYZ". Is there a way to edit it? (Hex-editing the binary file is ok, but I'm not sure it will work... do profiles have an internal checksum?)

When I try to import a photo, Lightroom5 tells me that my photo is a duplicate. When I search for the duplicate from within lightroom, lightroom can't find it by filename. When I search for the duplicate using a file manager outside of lightroom, the file manager can't find the duplicate either. I don't believe there is a duplicate file that has been imported in Lightroom.

Lightroom creates new duplicate folders when I import photos.
My directory structure is:
~/Pictures
/Lightroom
/2012
/2012-1
/2012-2
etc.
/2013
/2013-1
/2013-2
etc.
When I import, Lightroom creates a duplicate "Lightroom" folder, which it places into the 2013 folder. Inside that folder it places a duplicate 2013-12 folder and inside that the photos.
Alternatively, it sometimes places the new folder (this time named "lightroom" [lower-case "l"] at the same directory level as the "Lightroom" folder.

how I ended up with a shared network drive duplicated under the folders area of Lightroom 3.6. Maybe it was a user error but now my network drive where I have 15,000 pictures appears twice in the folder area and it is constantly updating (since there are quite a few pictures).
How can I delete the duplicated drive? I have "removed" all the folders under the duplicated drive (and made it disappear) but the drive keeps coming back as the synchronization process will add all the folders that exist on that drive.
The two drives with "Volume_1" in the name are actually one shared network drive (I only have one). I actually removed my network drive mapping (N:) to fix the problem but that did not even work; LR still found a duplicate name for the same network drive and started to synchronize (again).
