Lightroom :: 4 (Initial And RC2) Disappearance Of Images - Displayed As Grey Rectangles
Apr 29, 2012
The following happened in LR4, I installed RC2 hoping it may cure it but problem remains:
Â
Photos in whatever module cannot dispaly images after having worked properly for a while in any module no image display but grey rectangles... asking for "display in the explorer" shows in superposition that images are ther...
catalogue seems ok (structure and all, metadata are ok, in the development module memory has been kept of photos adjustment...
Â
Re-opening catalog or optimizing does not have any effect....
Â
Quiting LR is just abrupt with no asking for back-up...
Time and time again, I have come across the issue where the thumbnail being displayed in the grid view and loupe view is not of the image itself, but of some other image. So far, the thumbnail is typically from the same folder or collection and can be either from an image that still exists or from one that I've rejected and deleted from disk previously. Â If I go into develop mode, the correct image gets displayed, but the thumbnail rarely resets itself. Â I've deleted the cache on previous occasions to have LR recreate the thumbnails, but I never know when I'm going to encounter this issue. Â This becomes a paint when I am delete unwanted images. If the thumbnail is incorrect on my second or third pruning, I could actually lose an image I intended to keep. Â I'm running Lightroom 5.3 from CC. Â It seems that deleting the cache every day--maybe even several times a day--is a bit overkill, but seems to be the only way to deal with this problem.
Lightroom 4.3 version. All updates applied. Windows 7 64 bit. Single hardrive used. No problems on disk. Memory 8 gig. Speed 3 MHZ. OK  Here is how I use filters. Select folders/SE:ECT drive letter where it shows number of images/turn on filters/select metadata/ use flat or hierarcy does not matter, select a date. No problem, all the images from the entire drive relating to a day display.  PROBLEM - multiple images are displayed in grid or filmstrip. Search of the hard drive reveals those multiple images do not exist. Now what is the solution ? Metadata status ALWAYS displays image changed always. Status responds correctly when images are displayed - no problem there.  When Catalog is selected as above, same results are obtained. Does not matter - raw data or processed images into JPEG.  I can't express this problem any better - all the details are there. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? I need the metadata filter to use dates.
I have upgraded my Lightroom from 5.0 to the new update, so I am using Lightroom 5.2 . Yesterday I went into my old Lightroom 4 on my computer, retrieved a photo, exported it and shut down. Late last night I went to open Lightroom 5.2 and when I did all the photos are a screen of light grey with a light grey border. It seems all the date is there, but no photos show in either Lightroom 5.2 or Lightroom 4.
When I import images I cannot see them in the previews. I have set 1:1, standard, and minimal but it makes no difference. The images show as grey in the preview. When I go to the develop modual I can see the image I select but if I select another image the first goes gray again. For some reason I cannot render previews. Have I turned something off or on? Can I render previews after importing images? The files show up as DNG in my hard drive.
A friend of mine has been happily using / importing Sony Nex 7 Raw images into Lightroom 4.2 / 4.3 for a long time when suddenly this happens.  Note the grey border all around the image.  This file was imported with: No develop presetNo metadata preset.Process 2012.Various std in the box profiles. Here is a screen paste of the file dimensions (also showing that it is a raw file and not cropped).   All Sony Nex raw files imported to a particular machine (Win 7, 64 bit) demonstrate this behaviour. So, in trying to trace the problem.  The crop tool was checked to make sure there was no crop applied. They grey border is not just a visual border. If you examine the jpg it is actually grey pixels consuming a large percentage of the native 6000x4000 Nex 7 resolution. The Reset button was pressed also,to make sure the raw file conversion was restored to basecamp.History reset.A raw image imported into the same machine / software from a Nikon D300 behaves perfectly.Previously imported Nex 7 Raw images are ok.When the images are imported into two other machines they imports perfectly.Scrapping the preference file makes no difference.Overlay mode was checked, an overlay image loaded and then overlay mode turned off… just to make sure this was NO overlay.Applying a crop and then removing a crop still leaves the grey border.Applying the crop reduces the image dimensions to approx.. 4946 x 3293.  Exporting an image to jpg (as shown) leaves image with grey border. This grey border can be cropped out, but it means the resolution will reduce.Exploring various scene modes / in camera crops / resolution settings on the camera does not seem to make any difference.Formatting the card in the camera, take a picture, import directly from card. 3 different cards used.  (No change). When using the Catelog on a different machine the grey border remains.Â
NB Camera set to RAW + jpeg. Jpeg's import without border.  So finally last night…
……. we uninstalled Lightroom 4.3 and re-installed into a different folder. (No change).
I have 2 separate image files and wish to create one new image file comprised of the two initial images on the left and right. Is that possible (and novice practical) with the software?
I often use the export option "Choose folder later". When using this preset, however, the initial folder it navigates to upon clicking export keeps defaulting back to a library folder that I don't want exports going to. How do I change the initial folder on this export so it's the root photos folder, or desktop, etc?
In the side and front view, the references are displayed in the wrong place on the screen. It is fine on the perspective view, but not side or front. The outline if I select the image is in the right place, but the image is not.
Frequently when I import raw Nikon files to lightroom 4 I initially see a picture with tone and white balance I really like. during this time (2 to 10 seconds) the histogram indicates that it is calculating. When the histogram is finished calculating the picture changes with bad tone (exposure, contrast ...). You can go and manually change the tone settings but it can take sometime and I would rather be able to quickly return to the picture settings that was initially presented. Is there a short cut or easier way?
Just upgrade my system to Vistax64 and installed my CS3 on here and its working great. There is however a strange thing going on with my palettes UI and it disappearing. I was just testing it out after the install (which installed fine) and have been using it now for about two weeks. I did try searching all over Google and stuff like that to see if anyone else ran into this issue but didn't really find anything useful. Attached are some screen shots so you can see what I'm talking about. As you can see, that is actually my Layers Palette has no top border, heading, nor tabs. It's just blank. If I click onto it, it will collapse (minimize) and everything will show up again (tabs, buttons to close the palette, etc) If i click on it again, then it'll just expand like it should look. It no only does this with the layers palette but with all the windows docked to the right side if expanded out. (not sure if I'm making any sense, pictures tell the whole story) I'm running Vista Ult 64bit, 8 GB Ram and 3.5 Ghz quadcore processor. It works and runs fine, this just happens every once in a while and its very annoying. Also happens in dreamweaver, flash, and illustrator. I did reinstall photoshop twice just to make sure that it just wasn't a faulty install but it works and works well. Just besides this UI bug. Drivers have been updated for my gtx260 card, all hardware drivers are good.
I've never asked about this but I've succeeded in doing this many times over the years. I have this habit of flying through my keystrokes and sometimes hit a key or a series of keys causing the entire Tool bar and Window presets to disappear.Â
Until now, I've reset each window to show my actions, history, etc. and re click on Tools in the Window scroll to have them show up again. The question is two-pronged: What am I accidentally hitting on my keyboard to make all these disappear at once and is there a keystroke I can use to bring them all up again?
Why do the dialog boxes and right click menus disappear underneath AutoCAD 2012? It does not happen every time, only most of the time. I can roll the mouse pointer over were the box or menu is supposed to be and some of the buttons and textboxes will reappear but not all.
Sometime the ViewCube disappear from my screen, so it is not possible to rotate my drawing so see my objects in 3D.
The same ViewCube is in my Viewport and in this case I would like to make it disappear due the Viewport is locked and the commands do not operate normally here in this area.
Just in case you do not know what is the ViewCube please check the images attached.
I have created a new layer mask of an image, but when I use the free transform tool to resize it so it is smaller, there is a faint grey outline left around the image. Why does this happen and how do I get rid of it?
The problem is almost prehistoric. It dates from the very beginning as far I can tell... whatever image you like to export and whatever its format: png, gif, jpg, there is always one grey pixel border line at the edges. This happens when AA is activated (and deactivate it is not an option if you know what I mean).
I have been reading some threads and no matter what I do: Exporting with or without the background or changing its color... it's always happening.
I Have now installed the trial version of Corel Draw X5 (sp1 included) as I do with every release in order to check out if the problem persist... but no luck for me: nobody seems to be taking care of this issue. I really don't know why Corel is bumping off some many (potentially) buyers like me and many others... why Corel is keeping this issue unresolved year after year, release after release?Â
How can I define my own set of metadata to be displayed in the metadata panel. I don't mean metadata sets to be applied to images. I mean the groups of metadata fields that will be displayed in the right hand panel.  LR came with some like QuickDescribe, Minimal, Default....
can I alter the BACKGROUND COLOUR from the Grey to a lighter grey as in P/Shop Album 2.00 which is just what I want..I hate the darker colour as background..I have just purchased the Elements 11.Â
I am currently running Map 3D 2012 with CadWorx and I am having an issue with one of my multi tab drawings. Any object set to plot grey (any grey), that is in paper space, is plotting black only in one of my layouts. similar objects in model space and in both spaces on other layouts are all plotting accordingly.
I am using Lightroom 4.1 on a vista computer. I am in the process of building a number of sub-collections within a main collection. About 400 pictures selected so far. I have set the view>options to view thumbnail badges in grid view. However, only one photo, which I have not done anything to, shows the badge for collections. I would expect that every photo I assigned to a collection would show the collections badge. When I deselect the thumbnail badge box, the badge disappears from the one photo that has it. When I turn it back on, only the one photo shows the badge.  How can I have all the photos assigned to a collection show the badge?
The print resolution is no longer displayed making it difficult to decide if I need to modify the resolution prior to printing. Second, Lightroom 5 no longer generates a print preview. I select this option in my printer interface but sends the image directly to the printer without generating the preview. I did not have these issues with Lightroom 4 or earlier versions.
When I make changes to my jpeg or psd files in Lightroom 4.3, these changes are not displayed in Bridge. Â I'v checked the appropriate box in Lightroom's Catalog
Settings "Auotmatically write changes to XMP". Â What am I doing that's incorrect? Â Digitalmac.
I want to wash my .jpg files through LR 5 in order to display the filenames. Via the Slideshow module I have been able to select and direct the displaying of the desired metadata option. When I export the files the displayed metadata information does not make the trip.
I recentely upgraded to LR4.1 and it seems to have done something strange with my Folders. As you can see in the earlier version all of my harddrives are displayed as panel items in the folders panel. However now it's only displaying the boot drive and i have to drill down to the volumes folder to get to my hard drives..This is pretty annoying since i work on multiple hard drives.  I have read in earlier versions that people found a workaround by using the "Promote Subfolders" option until all drives were displayed. However this option doesn't seem to be in LR 4. None of my hard drives are compressed, and they are all internal.  It may be worth noting that when I went to create a new catalog it didnt show any hard drives begin with.  Original Display of the Folders Panel  Current Display of the Folders Panel - as you can see only one drive is displaying.  I am running Mac Os X Lion 10.7.4, LR 4.1
In lr4 when I import photos in portrait form they are displayed in landscape. This didn't happen in lr3. Is there a solutionn to this problem other than manually rotating them?
lightroom 4. Every box in filmstrip or main is greyed out.
tried optimizing catalog, tried launching other catalogs. all is the same. i cant see any pics no matter what i doi re-installed the display driver.
everything else on the computer looks fine. its weird. histograms show in devolop module, and the folders show on the botttom. nothing reporting as missing. where i can look in win 7 system?
