Illustrator :: Place Image PX Dimensions At Its Native Size
Jun 2, 2012
I have a 900x900 px image, and a 900x900 px artboard.
When I place the image on the artboard, the image is 675.094x675.094 px
How can I place the image at its native size?

I have an image received from a client in .eps format. I need to get it into either a .gif or .jpg format AND the final file MUST be .8 inches x .3 inces, AND no more than 10K in size. How can I save it with these dimensions/constraints and not lose resolution? What I have tried - export to .jpg (file is 5 inches x 3 inches), export and change resolution to 100ppi (image is nearly the right dimensions, but blurry). The tools I have are AI and PS both version CS5

Image Sizing Dimensions produces wrong image sizes upon export for certain images.
Example, I have export set up for iPad resolution, 2048x1536px at 264ppi. If I now export an 3264x4928px image it should be resized to 1356x2048px. What I get is 1356x2047 instead, one pixel too short on the long side. This doesn't happen for all images source resolutions and ratios though. I haven't figured out the pattern yet.

I cannot find a way to keep the native resolution when exporting it to this size, even using the same as project settings, it makes it 720x480, when i look at the file when clicking properties it says uncompressed 1920x1080, how do i export it as such just a little more compressed?

I have to process a couple of thousand photos. What I need to do is get PS to resize the canvas so that Height=Width, no matter which is the larger. In the area where it increases the canvas size, it should then have white space.
So that for a 10x5 landscape picture, it resizes to be 10x10 canvas, for a 5x10 portrait picture, it resizes to be 10x10 canvas, etc.

When i import a DXF file into Illustrator created in AutoCAD, i have the problem that the positions of the elements (rectangles, circles etc.) are not on the exact position as created in AutoCAD. The variations are very minor (Centerposiotion of a element x 5mm y 5mm in AutoCad = x 4.969 y 4.949 after import in Illustrator). Sometimes the sizes of the elements variate also slightly (a line which is 102mm in AutoCAD is 101.99mm after import in Illustrator) but not generally.
I tried various files with different export versions from AutoCAD, including different measures such as mm to inch and points and so on. I tried also the different importing options in Illustrator. The closest i come is Centerposiotion of a element x 5mm y 5mm in AutoCad = x 4.969 y 4.949 but never exact. How to get a DXF file into illustrator by keeping every element in place and size?

"Image > Print Size" really IS the command you are looking for.
The key is to pay attention to the units-of-measure shown on the Print Size dialogue box:- The "Width" and "Height" values under Print Size are displayed in real-world units (inches, mm, etc.), not image pixels.- The "Resolution" values are displayed in pixels-per-unit.- You cannot change your image's pixel dimensions (aka scale the image) from the Print Size dialogue. That's what the "Scale Image" command is for.Remember the relation between pixel and print sizes is:(print size) = (pixel size) / (print resolution)
When you change the image's print resolution, of course the real-world size (the "width" or "height" shown in the Print Size dialog) of your image will update to reflect the new print resolution -- that value is calculated from your image's actual pixel size and whatever resolution value you just entered. This is totally normal behavior -- in fact, it's expected. If you change an image's resolution from, say, 150 pixels/inch to 75 pixels/inch, this doubles the print size of your image but only the print size; the image's pixel size remains precisely the same as before. (You can confirm this by comparing "Image > Canvas Size..." before and after changing the resolution.)
And as others have stated, if you're using the image for Web viewing then its print resolution has absolutely zero effect on how it will appear onscreen (print resolution only affects, well, actual printing), in which case you'll want to use the "Scale Image" command to actually scale your image larger or smaller.

Recently updated to CS6 but one thing very frustrating is that File>Place does not work. When I select it a window will pop up, but as soon as I select any image from the window the entire Illustrator application stops working.
I was forced to switch back to CS5.

When I open an image in PS CS6 all is well. Once I move the document, it snaps itself to the top left. If I move it and try to place it somewhere else, it moves itself a little higher to the top left. The more I move it the more it snaps higher. If I move it over 5 times it covers the main menu bar (File Edit Layer View Filter) and so on. This renders the app useless as you can no no longer access the native menu to do anything to the image.
I am on Windows 7x64 (SP1) with a Wacom Tablet. Within PS I've disabled, Tabs for windows (Both check marks) as well as Flick Panning, and animated zoom.

I am trying to place an .eps image on an InDesign document, however, the blue bounding box in Illustrator is cropping part of the image. I can see the full image in Illustrator. Maybe the bounding box is too close to the edge of the logo? Below is the what it looks like when I place it in InDesign and what it looks like in Illustrator. Is there a way I can include the missing part of the image? I am not the creator of the logo and received it from another company.

I have received permission to use the attached logo (1st image) on a business card for a project.
I want to place it on a blue background, so I've copied the type in Illustrator switched the colors so everything can be read against blue and worked well. However, I can't seem to get whatever file type I place of the shield in Illustrator (tiff, jpg, gif) to not have white pixels around it. You'll see what I mean in the attached 2nd image.
I made a selection of the shield and then did a layer mask of the rest of the logo. There are some extra pixels but some are so small that I don't think I can get them all. I've tried placing the logo in InDesign too and there is the same issue.

I'm trying to upload a .svg file to a t shirt printing site. The image is to be printed on a sleeve therefore the dimentions need to be small (5 inch x 5 inch when uploaded). Every time I upload the file, it is returning information that the file is too big : 1261 px x 1323 px, 10.5 inch x 11.0 inch.
When I try to reduce the image size in Illustrator, the dimensions are still the same when I upload it?!?!? It is quite a complex design.

Is there a way with JavaScript to place an image with a calculated path and file name? I have 30+ artboards per document, each artboard named by product number. The actual file name of the master AI file is also already established (meaning every document I use this new script on will have already been saved).
Here's the scenario I'm hoping to create in the context of the documents mentioned above:
Run a script to "Place" a linked image based on the following calculated path:
["S:SAPCurrent Images in SAPStock Schools"] + [current ai filename minus the .ai extension]+[a hyphen like this "-"]+[currently selected artboard name]+[".jpg"]
This image link can be placed on a new top layer called "Images" or if necessary on the currently selected layer. Dimensions of the placed image should be a pre-determined size 8"x8".
Error if the ai document has not been saved yet.

A coworker and I are having the same problem with dimensions. For example, we have a polyline that has been dimensioned and then we will either need to trim or break a small portion out. When we trim or break the line the dimensions on that line fly all over the place so we end up needed to re-dimension everything. We have had this problem in AutoCAD 2008, 2010, and 2011. Maybe we need to change a variable? The polylines have a zero Z-axis and it does not happen everytime we trim or break but enough to become annoying. Our CAD Manager had as try to disassociate the dimension, break the line, and then reassociate it but that didn't work; the dimensions were still shifted around.

We have an issue here where a user has N/S/E/W elevations of a building or radial type layout. Then there are sections derived from these elevations. If you open up the section pointing north and south you can place radial dimensions on the view needed. If you go into the section pointing east/west you cannot. It starts the command, just doesn't allow you to pick anything. I will post a sample file in a sec.

I just upgraded to Illustrator CS6 on a PC. I try to save my graphic in Save for Web and want to alter the image size, but it won't change, it just goes back to the original size. If I change the percentage box, the values change. I have tried linking and unlinking the proportions and nothing. What am I missing?? I don't have time to guess the percentage to get to the exact width I need.

I have created vector art in Illustrator 5.5 that is exported as a PNG file at 96 dpi. When we open the PNG file in Photoshop, the image size is larger in Photoshop than it is in Illustrator. Width was 232.8 px on Illustrator document and 233 on Photoshop document. Height was 181.4 px on Illustrator document and 183 on the Photoshop document. If I export as a 72 dpi PNG file then the size does not change. How can I export the image at 96 dpi without changing the size of the image?

I am a fairly novice user of Illustrator. I have my company logo in an .AI and .PNG format. I need to "shrink" the image while perserving the image quality. I am trying to design an ad for my business and the file is too big for the dimensions of the ad in photoshop. When i attempt to reduce the file size (Edit--> Free Transform) I am able to "shrink" the logo down to fit (about 70% reduction), but it turns out very blurry and not sharp. The sharpen filter does not seem to work.
I have been told I need to take the .AI file, and shink the logo there, then converting to a PNG to be placed into the ad. I **think** I did this, but the image still turns out blurry.
