Illustrator :: Reduce SVG Image Dimensions?
Mar 5, 2014
I'm trying to upload a .svg file to a t shirt printing site. The image is to be printed on a sleeve therefore the dimentions need to be small (5 inch x 5 inch when uploaded). Every time I upload the file, it is returning information that the file is too big : 1261 px x 1323 px, 10.5 inch x 11.0 inch.
When I try to reduce the image size in Illustrator, the dimensions are still the same when I upload it?!?!? It is quite a complex design.
Using Illustrator CS3

I am a fairly novice user of Illustrator. I have my company logo in an .AI and .PNG format. I need to "shrink" the image while perserving the image quality. I am trying to design an ad for my business and the file is too big for the dimensions of the ad in photoshop. When i attempt to reduce the file size (Edit--> Free Transform) I am able to "shrink" the logo down to fit (about 70% reduction), but it turns out very blurry and not sharp. The sharpen filter does not seem to work.
I have been told I need to take the .AI file, and shink the logo there, then converting to a PNG to be placed into the ad. I **think** I did this, but the image still turns out blurry.

I am preparing images for the web and I really have 2 questions: one about gifs, and one about jpgs.My standard procedure is to reduce the image to the desired pixel dimensions at 600 dpiThat gives me a crisp small image. then I either use it as is if the file size is low enough (I try for under 600 kb) or convert it to a gif with the save for web and devices tool.
So here are my 2 questions (I will count this solved with either answer)
1) When I convert to a gif I have the 4 boxes: one with original size, the other 3 with options but often the options are too low res for me How do I change my 3 options to start at a higher gif res?
2) If I try to reduce the file size of the jpg in the image size box I set the resolution lower ( 400, 300), which lowers the pixel dimensions and the filesize, but I don't want to cahnge the pixel dimensions. And If I reset the pixel dimensions back to the size I want them, even though it is a lower resolution the file size doesn't change.
How to reduce jpg file size using only the resolution, not pixel dimensions? PS I have tried messing with checking and unchecking the 3 little boxes( scale styles, constrain proportions, and resample) but nothing has worked.

When I import images (by dragging image into document), these often start off at a scaled size and with fractional dimensions, e.g. width 117.84px.
Is there a way to import images at their original dimensions?

I have an image received from a client in .eps format. I need to get it into either a .gif or .jpg format AND the final file MUST be .8 inches x .3 inces, AND no more than 10K in size. How can I save it with these dimensions/constraints and not lose resolution? What I have tried - export to .jpg (file is 5 inches x 3 inches), export and change resolution to 100ppi (image is nearly the right dimensions, but blurry). The tools I have are AI and PS both version CS5

I have an image that I took in RAW with a Canon 5D. I then masked a large portion of the image using the adjustments brush. The result was what I wanted but the image is now very large. I exported the image to a DNG to retain editability. The resulting DNG is 53,679 kb. If I export the image to a JPG at 25% quality limiting the size to 2000 pixels on the longest edge I still get a 7,795 kb image.
I have had this problem with masking before. Is there any way to get rid of the bloat that the masking caused?

I was given an image with these dimensions:
w: 13.89 x h: 5.56 inches.
I'm being asked to make it fit these dimensions:
w: 8.5 x h: 5.47 inches
How to achieve this without the picture looking stretched, in terms of it's height. Everything looks constrained when you just do the image or canvas resize.

I have an ai file. It is exported from PRo-E, so there are lot of nodes in that ai file which makes the file size larger. Is there any way to simplify the ai file without disturbing the profile of the entities in ai file. I tried Simplify options. It worked a little bit. But i want any other option to simplify the ai file in order to reduce the file size in a larger extent.

Many of our AI-files have a tendency to 'bloat' to sizes above 60 or 100 MB, even though they relatively simple, all things considered.
The obvious answer would be to save with PDF-compability, but since we need to link the AI-files in InDesign-documents, that's not an option. We have cleaned the brushes, the symbols etc. and all pictures are linked, not embedded.
Are there any other ways to reduce the file-size?

I normally use InDesign. This is in Illustrator and the art work doesn't have a handle on the corners to pull in or out to size. Shift / Command doesn't work.

What is the best way to reduce an image's file size (say by 50%) so that someone with limited RAM can work on the file and then when they are done restore the file back to its 100% size for final output--without sacrificing resolution or pixels. File is a layered psd and will eventually be going to print.

I'm using gimp 2.6 on ubuntu. i have some pictures i would like to enhance.
There's that image image 1
and i would like to make it look like image 2
As you can see the second image uses only about 7 or 8 different colors and the outer lines are nice and smooth not stuttering.
Is there a way how i can change the first image to something like the second one, maybe something like replace 10 different colors which are similar to each other with only 1?
I tried and played with the options (bucketfill, posterise, or the cartoon option from artistic menu, increase contrast, brightness etc...
Is there an option to smoth the outer lines etc? i just want the dog, the rest of the background is not so important.

I have about a hundred photos in high resolution that I want to reduce to (the same) small image size for a website. How can I do this several (or all) at a time, instead of individually editing each one, using my Photoshop Elements 11 or 12? I cannot find an action for this in the action menu. If not possible within Elements, is there anything "free," or do I have to get Creative Suite or the like?

Image Sizing Dimensions produces wrong image sizes upon export for certain images.
Example, I have export set up for iPad resolution, 2048x1536px at 264ppi. If I now export an 3264x4928px image it should be resized to 1356x2048px. What I get is 1356x2047 instead, one pixel too short on the long side. This doesn't happen for all images source resolutions and ratios though. I haven't figured out the pattern yet.

I'm trying to use adobe illustrator to color the background of a photograph green while keeping the person in the picture the same color.
I used live trace to get a vector image and then attemped to use live pain to finish the job, but I end up with thousands of blue lines and gaps that are too small to color in. Is there anyway i can reduce the number of gaps so that i can actually paint the background?
I've already tried the gap options and adjusting the settings to small medium or large did nothing. If this isn't possible, is there any other feature in adobe illustrator that would allow me to achieve my goal?
I have a photograph with a person in the middle; i want the person to remain the same and the background to be changed to green.

I have a illustration in .iso(isodraw) format. I'm exporting it to ai and opening in adobe illustrator for removing unwanted lines(becasuse the .iso is exported from Pro-E). Then Im reopening it in Isodraw to apply some line thickness. Because i want the file to be completed in isodrwa and export it to .cgm.
My target is to reduce the file size to very minimal. The entities in the drawing has lot of nodes. Im using simplify option in AI to reduce the nodes in turn the file size reduces.
What are all the other ways to reduce the file size without distrubing the profile of the illustration. Otherwise redrawing of the entire illustration will reduce the file size??
In a nutshell Input is .iso.......Output is .cgm. By using isodraw and adobe illustrator software which will be the best possible way to reduce the file size.

I am making a holiday greeting card. I have 16 very larged photo images "linked" (not embedded) into the card. The original images are very large (e.g. 4500 x 3000 px, 10mb) but I've placed them fairly small in the final card (only about 2" x 2" printed). Therefore, I likely don't need the full resolution of the original photos. I need to generate a final file that I can send to an online print shop, something that is ideally 10-25Mb in size, probably pdf. How to prepare the final file for export to pdf to generate as such? Right now, the final file is 275Mb because it is embedding the full size of each of the 16 images.
I'm on Illustrator CS6 on Mac.

I have a task I need to perform often. I create charts that have descriptive texts below bars. There are two lines of text... a company name, then data on the second line. The text is at a slant, so each bar has its own separate text (i.e., I can't create it as one continues piece of text... but the text below each bar —the two lines— are connected). I want the first line of text to be 8 points and 100% black. The second line of text is to be 7 points and 50% black. So let's say the text is 8 pt Arial. I highlight the second line and run the action on it to reduce it down to 7 points. No problem. Then I run a second action (ideally, I'd like to combine actions, but I can't as you'll see in a moment...) which turns that second line to 50% black. BUT... it turns BOTH lines to gray... not just the line I have highlighted. How can I stop it from doing this? It seems like if I have only certain text highlighted, it should only apply changes to that particulat text! Not ALL of it.
I'd like to combine both actions so that all I have to do is highlight the second line and run both actions. But I can't do that at the moment
I'll attach some photos that will hopefully make this make more sense.
I'm using CS6 on a Mac. The charts are initially generated online, if that makes a difference.
