Photoshop :: How To Reduce Image Size While Maintaining Proportions
May 16, 2012
I was given an image with these dimensions:Â
w: 13.89Â x h: 5.56 inches.
I'm being asked to make it fit these dimensions:Â
w: 8.5 x h: 5.47 inchesÂ
Â
How to achieve this without the picture looking stretched, in terms of it's height. Everything looks constrained when you just do the image or canvas resize.

When I enlarge a drawing or draw a large drawing to size, when I go to shrink it down to an exportable size on the page all the porportions of outlines and shades are all out of whack. What can I do to maintain the drawing to scale with all intact for different sizing of jobs, So I don't have to go in an correct the aspect of the drawing for each and every job.
Also if I export a drawing as a jpg and email it, On the droid phones it does not recognize the jpg file and it won't open.

What is the best way to reduce an image's file size (say by 50%) so that someone with limited RAM can work on the file and then when they are done restore the file back to its 100% size for final output--without sacrificing resolution or pixels. File is a layered psd and will eventually be going to print.

I have an image that I took in RAW with a Canon 5D. I then masked a large portion of the image using the adjustments brush. The result was what I wanted but the image is now very large. I exported the image to a DNG to retain editability. The resulting DNG is 53,679 kb. If I export the image to a JPG at 25% quality limiting the size to 2000 pixels on the longest edge I still get a 7,795 kb image.
Â
I have had this problem with masking before. Is there any way to get rid of the bloat that the masking caused?

I am a fairly novice user of Illustrator. I have my company logo in an .AI and .PNG format. I need to "shrink" the image while perserving the image quality. I am trying to design an ad for my business and the file is too big for the dimensions of the ad in photoshop. When i attempt to reduce the file size (Edit--> Free Transform) I am able to "shrink" the logo down to fit (about 70% reduction), but it turns out very blurry and not sharp. The sharpen filter does not seem to work.
Â
I have been told I need to take the .AI file, and shink the logo there, then converting to a PNG to be placed into the ad. I **think** I did this, but the image still turns out blurry.

this is a stroke of a path of a bicycle sprocket with 32 teeth, after removing 4 teeth from 4 different parts(there is a pair of 2 different type of teeth after every 6 standard teeth,i want to remove 1 of these 6 in each of the 4 parts).
Â
I do not know how to join up the open ends of the path to maintain the circular shape to produce a 28 tooth sprocket, the teeth size are not to change just the circle.

I have a question regarding the best way to reduce the size of a drawing from possibly 8” x 10” to 1”x1”. I am going to hire an artist to draw a characture of one of my clients
and use that as buttons for the website. I am thinking my options are to scan artist’s drawing into PS and reduce image, but I will definitely lose quality. Or I can retrace the drawing in Illustrator and develop a vector drawing, which I can resize . . . but how do I trace color?

when I was using Elements 5.0 I could open two photos, drag one photo into the other, then resize the photo by selecting it and using the handles. I can't find a way to do this in Photoshop CS3. Is this possible?  Am I missing a setting somewhere? I can drag one photo into another and move it around, but just can't resize it.

I have a question about the size of tiff files. I start with RAW (NEF) photos from my Nikon D800. These files generally import at around 40MB each and I am using Lightroom 4 to keep track of them.
Â
I'll use Lightroom's "Edit in PS" functionality, make a bunch of edits to the file in CS6, flatten all the layers, and then save the file (as a tiff). The original NEF file was ~40MB but the new tiff file (in this specific example) is over 200MB!
Â
How can I get the file back to a reasonable size for storage? I don't want to have to save it as a jpg - I want to keep as much information as I can.

I have load of files that I need to clean up to reduce file size (mb) without reducing image size. I have manually been doing this in tree steps; merging active layers and deleting hidden layers, deleting unused channel/masks and deleting all paths. For the layers part I have managed to create an action and run it on multiple files through the file>automate>batch menu, I would like to the same for the channel and paths or possibly all three in one.
