Photoshop Elements :: How To Resize Background Layer Without Having To Uncheck Constrain Proportions
Oct 21, 2012I want to keep the width pixel size the same but change the height of the background layer (canvas). When I unchecked constrain proportions and choose reshape, of course the proportions are off on the layers within and when I try to resize each of those layers, they become blurry.

Nov 17, 2012New user of Elements 10. I am trying to change an image size but NOT keep the current height/width ratio.
When I go into the Image Size option box, the Constrain proportions box is ticked, so when I change the width, the height automatically alters to a new figure (say 100 x 50 becomes 200 x 100)
What I need to do is to have different sizes (say 100 x 50 to become 200 x 160). I realise that the image will look wrong, but this is not a problem, in fact it is what I am trying to achieve.
What do I have to do to be able to uncheck this option within the Image Resize dialogue box.
In a previous version of Photoshop, that I had access to, this was achieved by simply un-ticking the option.

Apr 3, 2013I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled the free to use version of CS2 on my PC. I'm running 32 Bit Windows 7. Since the install Photoshop will not allow me to use Shift+ Cursor to resize with constrained proportions. When I press Shift the cursor freezes and I am unable to move it no matter how hard I press on the track pad. If I resize and then press shift the image will square out. It appears that only the scroll function is disabled.

I can use shift to type upper case within Illustrator, but its not allowing me to size things proportionally. I searched within many option and menus and googled this problems without any resolution.

Aug 10, 2007When I put photo's from my camara (Olympus C5060) on my computer, they have a doc. dimension of about 22" in Width and about 17" in Height, at 72dpi.
Then, if I want to change it to 300dpi for printing, the size will go to about 5" and 4", and I can accept that. But should I Uncheck Resample Image to keep the quality?

I reset the preferences, restarted which failed to solve the problem.However once I updated my Wacom driver from 6.3.3 to the latest 6.3.8-2 that seemed to solve the problem.

Oct 22, 2012I have been using Elements for quite a few years and have had no problem in resizing images until last week. I often use the option of resizing using the cm measurements I want. When I tried this on my laptop last week the programme would not allow me to change any of the figures in the resizing dialog box. I tried cm, pixels and percentage and none of them would work.
I tried a number of different images from one file but could not resize any of them however I opened an image from another file which I know i have resi9zed in the past and this time the function worked fine.
I copied the image I couldn't resize to my main computer which also has Photoshop Elements and the resize function worked fine on this computer.
I uninstalled Elements and then re-installed it on my laptop but still have the same problem. I also have Photosphop Cs4 on my laptop and the resize function has stopped working in this programme as well.

Jan 6, 2009In CS4 the drag-to-resize brush option should display as red (the brush preview default color) but no color shows up. Nor with the drag-to-set-hardness shortcut either. Both shortcuts work. I cannot see the hardness change on screen but a quick check of the brushes indicates that it did indeed work. Just no color indicator for either shortcut.

Photoshop :: Image Resize After Canvas Resize In CS6
Jun 11, 2012In previous versions I have been able to resize the canvas and then resize the image. For example resize the canvas to 250px x 250 px. Then resize the image to the same.
Here is the process I am using:
Duplicate the layer and then hide it. Resize the canvas (Image > Canvas Size) to 250px x 250 px. Un-hide the layer and then resize the image (Image > Image Size). When I go into Image>Image Size it says that the image is already 250px x 250px. However if I try to transform the scale the image is the original size and not 250px x 250px
The reason for needing this is I resize image size (in bulk) and the canvas size using the batch process (file>automate>batch) and actions. I loaded the actions file I used in previous versions, but that did not work correctly. I then went in to do this manually and got the same results.

Is there a way, using the _keyboard_, to select or toggle whether I want the window to resize when I use the zoom tool? I often want to go back and forth between asking for the resize and prohibiting it, but I don't want to have to go up with the mouse to click on that little check box all the time.

Dec 17, 2013Just updated my LR to 5.3 from the CC and noticed a weird problem that I never encountered before in LR4 or 5.x (before 5.3 that is). I usually export pictures from RAW format to either TIFF or JPG (100% quality) and depending on purpose I use batch resizing, e.g. 1080 pixels on short edge ... well that whole Resize setting gets ignored by LR 5.3! It still exports full size (full RAW size in this case) into JPG or TIFF, but it won't resize .
EDIT:
I found out that I checked the "Don't enlarge" box in Export dialog under Resizing, that's when resizing was not working. After I unchecked it then it works fine, but still what does that have to do with anything if we are talking about downsampling images from 5184x3456 pixels to 1620x1080 ...
GIMP :: Resize Option Bundled With Export Command
Jan 13, 2014This is such a common task, there may be cause to have a Resize option bundled with the Export command. Having to always perform them as two separate steps is an annoyance, but the possibility of accidentally saving the wrong resolution back to the XCF file is a danger.
A question that asked late last year as I had a need to resize and keep working on original. That's when I found the save for web had been reinstated as 2.6.
Part of the motivation for the save/export distinction in the firstplace is later being able to introduce such improvements to exportworkflows (as well as other neat things; like being able to choosebetween export presets, multiple named regions - and more). Without aclear conceptual internal seperation - such future improvements willbe much harder.
