AutoCAD Inventor :: Only One Constrain Disables Moving Of Part Instance Within An Assembly
Apr 26, 2013sometimes when using constraints the "movable" part is fixed after adding the first constraint.
If i use i.e. a surface to surface constraint the movable part should be free to slide on the surface.
To move the part in this case I have to add further constraint or delete the old one.
Furthermore sometimes constraints in assemblys do not update automatically. I have to click on the part and try to move it away. After releasing the part the consraint will be updated.
Are there any options to control or better change this behavior?
I am using Inventor 2013+Vault 2013.

I'm wondering if there is any easy/quick way to make certain parts (not all) automatically constrain/flush to the ground/XZ plane when I place them?

Dec 7, 2012It's a simple "wedge" assembly where the wedge is constrained to a single axis with a return spring keeping it biased one way. The are two blocks that are pulled tight against the taper of the wedge with springs that keep them pressed against the taper. When the wedge moves in they split, when it moves out, they contract. Simple, right?
For the life of me, I can't seem to constrain the parts correctly to the taper so it behaves correctly. The design is proprietary, so I've made up a "lite" version of it and attached it here.

Mar 12, 2012I have used the derive component command to mirror parts many times but each time in the past I have had a desire for that part to be linked to the one I mirrored. I have a new situation where I would like to mirror a skeleton part file that I used on one assembly to make a new assembly.
For example, I used the part attached below to create a stair frame for a steel framed platform I am working on. It consists of geometry, work features, and sketches that represent the nosing line, guardrail, stair stringers, etc.
I have another stair on the other side of the platform that needs to be a mirror image of this one plus a few unique modifications. The new assembly cannot be "linked" to the other one as each of these assemblies needs to be modified independently.
How can I mirror this part to reuse work I have already done without having to create a new skeleton file from scratch? Using the derived part method, then breaking the link makes all of my sketch entities unconstrained.

Jul 3, 2013Often times when I mirror a sheet metal part in an assembly, several problems occur: The material thickness (in sheet metal defaults) gets reset to the default
Example: My parts are .1875". I mirror one part in the assembly (creating a new part), then when I attempt to create a flat pattern for that part, it doesn't do it right because the thickness in the "Sheet Metal Defaults" is set to .125 (my template default). The "Use Thickness from Rule" check box is NOT checked in my template, but it checks itself when I mirror a part.
The mates completely disappear meaning I have to reconstrain the part.
I have two custom iProperties in my sheet metal template: LENGTH and WIDTH (each set to <SHEET METAL LENGTH> etc.). It retains WIDTH but loses LENGTH, so I have to go manually create a new custom property to get my LENGTH back.

Jan 10, 2012When I add a text to a sketch, I can constrain the rectangle to set its size, orientation and position.And I can set the text width to fit into the rectangle. But I wasn't able to set the text height to fit into the rectangle.
Am I missing something or is the fit text option doing only half the job?

Jul 6, 2012i am using Autodesk Inventor 2012 to design a pipeline structure. I have a problem when mirroring a 3D sketch with applyed frames. the problem is that if after the mirror operation i edit the original sketch, the modifications are not inherited by the mirrored part of the structure. in particular when i mirror a 3D assembly and edit the original assembly the modifications are made also in the mirrored part but the program does it in a wrong way as long as the constraints are not satisfied and the position of the parts are not the same as the original assembly.
How to mirror an object and preserving the link between the original and the copy in order to make modifications to all the parts mirrored in an easy way?

May 15, 2013Inventor doesn't allow me to mirror a part as a different part. In normal cases, I can mirror a part within an assembly and it allows me to give a new filename. Now, it thinks it is a standard part and wants to reuse it even if I uncheck the "reuse standard content and factory parts" box. How can I turn that off? Or mirror the component?

Dec 11, 2013I would like to simplify this assembly into one seamless part for FEM calculation:The assembly consists out of parts that, in reality, will be welded together. Due to their form, there is no way to place them exactly onto each other, therefore there are slight gaps between the parts:
Now when I try to merge the assembly into one part via "simplify" --> "create simplified part" and choose "single solid body with seams between planar faces merged", Inventor does not fill these gaps (even though it displays only one part in the bottom right corner of my window). Unfortunately, the remaining gaps brings "contact" problems in the FEM simulation.

Mar 29, 2012I have a part that has protrusions. When i mate that part up to another part that second part needs to have cutouts/holes to receive those protrusions.
i mainly use it in sheetmetal parts. and use the rectangular protrusions on de contour to mate up with corresponding cutouts in the other sheet. this works with positioning and also makes for a nice weld spot/area.
But also for making holes to accommodate a mold pin used in custom punch dies. I want the intervening part to receive a corresponding (propperly tolleranced) hole automatically. Much like a bolted connection does.
same for parts like circlips. i want them to automatically generate the seat in the part it's mated to. Rather than using the axle generator.
Ofcourse one can place the parts and do an in assembly interpart projection and go from there, but i want the part to generate the (predifined) modification to the other part. It would save time and also reduces problems as the parts are moved about or even removed.
