AutoCAD Inventor :: Mirror In Assembly Drops Information

Jul 3, 2013

Often times when I mirror a sheet metal part in an assembly, several problems occur: The material thickness (in sheet metal defaults) gets reset to the default

Example: My parts are .1875". I mirror one part in the assembly (creating a new part), then when I attempt to create a flat pattern for that part, it doesn't do it right because the thickness in the "Sheet Metal Defaults" is set to .125 (my template default). The "Use Thickness from Rule" check box is NOT checked in my template, but it checks itself when I mirror a part.

The mates completely disappear meaning I have to reconstrain the part.

I have two custom iProperties in my sheet metal template: LENGTH and WIDTH (each set to <SHEET METAL LENGTH> etc.). It retains WIDTH but loses LENGTH, so I have to go manually create a new custom property to get my LENGTH back.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Vault Copy Design Drops Information

May 3, 2013

You create a part, or assembly, check it into vault, then do a copy design in Vault. When you open the copied assembly, any sheet metal parts have reverted back to default thickness, making it so flat patterns don't work right until you manually change it. Also half of my custom parameters (sheet metal length and width) go missing and I have to type them in manually. Why does Inventor 2013 drop such information?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Mirror Skeleton File For New Assembly?

Mar 12, 2012

I have used the derive component command to mirror parts many times but each time in the past I have had a desire for that part to be linked to the one I mirrored. I have a new situation where I would like to mirror a skeleton part file that I used on one assembly to make a new assembly.

For example, I used the part attached below to create a stair frame for a steel framed platform I am working on. It consists of geometry, work features, and sketches that represent the nosing line, guardrail, stair stringers, etc.

I have another stair on the other side of the platform that needs to be a mirror image of this one plus a few unique modifications. The new assembly cannot be "linked" to the other one as each of these assemblies needs to be modified independently.

How can I mirror this part to reuse work I have already done without having to create a new skeleton file from scratch? Using the derived part method, then breaking the link makes all of my sketch entities unconstrained.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: SDF File Information - Create Points With Custom Information

Aug 26, 2011

I am a AutoCad drafter for telecommunications and I have utility pole points (long/lats)

I can insert the poles via long/lat and all is great, my issue is I would like more information in those points.

For example, pole number, class, HOA, Make Ready. Currently I create a survey data store and import ASCII Points using PNE(comma delimited)

So with my Excel file (this is where I get my pole information from) I get a point/northing/easting to enter into the formatting section.

I would like to add more information to these individual points, like ploe number, class, HOA...

If I view the point table I see that there are a lot of other columns, can I use them or customize them? is there a quick tutorial on this issue?

AutoCAD Inventor :: 1:1 Mirror / Different Masses

Jan 8, 2013

In the weldment of a crane boom i have different parts. Some are identical, but (1:1) mirrored.ipt. Then I merge them in the BOM in order to set the qty on "2" in the partslist.

Here the error occurs: in the "mass" field in the parts list says "varies".

This keeps me from generating a good partslist and the total mass of the weldment maybe messed up. I personally think it has something to do with the fact that the parts are sheetmetals. i.e when I look atthe Physical properties of the folded / unfolded (of the SAME .ipt) they differ in the same way i see in the BOM.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Assembly Has Double User Request At Inserting In Assembly

Sep 18, 2012

We have an iLogic assembly with to parts in it. Maybe to cylindrical parts. The iLogic rules should do the following.

1. Start a Rule after open document.

2. This Rule starts a Rule in the first cylindrical component.

3. This Rule ask the user for a diameter.

4. The assembly gives this new parameter value to the second component

5. Then the assembly calls another rule in the second component to change it with the new parameter

Everything is working fine when the following combinations are taking place:

1. I open up the assembly out of vault or from a local drive or an accessible server drive

2. I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly from a local drive or an accessible server drive

It don't work with the following situation:

- I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly out of vault

Then the user becomes the dialog "Choose a diameter" twice.

I don't know why, but I have the idea it has something to do with the functionality of inventor to insert a component more than once. If you insert a component in an assembly Inventor gives you the opportunity to add more than one occurence after each other.

change that behaviour? Maybe a switch to change that inventor "add more than one occurence" behaviour.

As you can see, I have a rack assembly with a custom tube and pipe style. A wire as a tube in orange, and a tube support in white. Both have their seperate colorations at a style in the tube and pipe styles editor

When placing the rack assembly into the main assembly, it reverts to the coppor coloration I changed from the original style.

Steps I've taken:

Exported the styles .xml and Imported the styles into the master tubeandpipe.iam

Imported the user created .xml styles into the main assembly file nothing seems to work

AutoCAD Inventor :: Find Interior Volume Of Assembly By Subtracting Assembly From Block

Apr 23, 2012

I am trying to find the interior volume of an assembly (when am I not?!?!) by subtracting the assembly from a block that surrounds the most of it.  Somewhere the assembly has a "leak" and I have been trying to use the Cross Section Analysis to track down where the inside lump is connected to the outside lump to be subtracted.  Is there a less time consuming way to dynamically drag a plane across and get cross sectional views?

Even better is there a simple way to animate the analysis plane moving across the block so I can hopefully just watch and pause it when I find a leak?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Make Sub Assembly From Parts From Main Larger Assembly?

Oct 31, 2011

My assembly has grown (about 50 parts) to where I need to consolodate some parts into subassemblies for reuse and alternate iterations of the basic design.

When I import the original parts into a new assembly, all of the constrains I created are not there of course.

I've tried creating a new empty part and then deriving a new part from the assembly, but I can't add, delete or edit any parts.

I looked at using Shrinkwrap, Substitutes, iParts, Multi-body Parts, and Multiple Solids but I remain confused.

In retrospect, maybe I should have created the subassemblies between the part and assembly stage but I didn't.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Mirror And Flip A Feature

Jun 11, 2013

I would like to both flip and mirror (or pattern) a feature onto the opposite side of a rectangular extrusion.

For example (assuming a rectangular solid extruded in the Z dimension), I have two counter bored holes on the top surface of the solid aligned with the X axis and I would like a copy of those holes on the bottom surface but aligned with the Y axis. If I pattern the holes rotating them 90 degrees and then attempt to mirror them, I can only select all four or the two originals. Is there any way to disassociate the rotated copies from the originals while still retaining control over their dimensions from a single sketch?

AutoCAD Inventor :: 3D Mirror Does Not Inherit Part Changes

Jul 6, 2012

i am using Autodesk Inventor 2012 to design a pipeline structure. I have a problem when mirroring a 3D sketch with applyed frames. the problem is that if after the mirror operation i edit the original sketch, the modifications are not inherited by the mirrored part of the structure. in particular when i mirror a 3D assembly and edit the original assembly the modifications are made also in the mirrored part but the program does it in a wrong way as long as the constraints are not satisfied and the position of the parts are not the same as the original assembly.

How to mirror an object and preserving the link between the original and the copy in order to make modifications to all the parts mirrored in an easy way?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unable To Mirror Solid?

Sep 3, 2013

This is a part from an inmported step file. The Inv assembly consists of 1047 part files.

I did the following:

Immediatley grounded all parts in the assembly.Opened the 8 (of the 1047) parts that came through as surfaces, all the rest are solid.

Found missing faces on all of them. I found the most useful tool was to create a series of section planes and do sketches with projected cut edges. Then export the sketches and open in autocad. This way I can see a simple line section view.

I set about replacing the missing faces to get the surface to a solid. After a few attempts I managed what you see below, a solid part in the browser. The part will now mirror as a new solid, but will not join. I have tried mirror as single solid, derive as single solid and combine. All Fail.
