Illustrator :: How To Join And Eliminate Part Of Path
Jun 24, 2013Illustrator CS6.
I did the fish body outline. Then I decided I needed to change the path by the head. I want to join the inside line to the body outline and eliminate the path on the head portion. I need the finished outline to e a closed path so I can do a clipping mask. I have tried the "join" cmd but it wants to add a straight line between the bottom and top.
Is there a way to accomplish what I am wanting to do?

Aug 21, 2013I am getting an error message while trying to use the Path/Join function in Ai CC6. While working on a new layer I try to Path/Join the vectorized image and the message states that "The selected objects cannot be joined as they are invalid objects." What am I doing wrong?

This might sound more obvious than it actually is in this case so i'll explain. My partners artwork contains a lot of linework and unfortunately, i can't get the degree of accuracy i need with a continous path. Therefore, the problem i have is joining lots of paths (some of which have endpoints joining midway through other paths) to make a single object with the strokes preserved, so i can apply a fill to the overall object or to individual sections.
I've tried unite, join and all the other commands that i'm aware of but all give undesired effects. I've tried using a compund path but all that does is make them act as one but still doesn't do what i need with regards to filling the object.
A simplified example of what i need to achieve is this...... create a square using 4 seperate paths and then a cross through the middle using more seperate paths to create a 4 box square. I need to be able to make this one object so i can fill each individual square a different colour if need be?

"The join option only results in a corner join regardless of whether you select anchor points to join or the entire path. However, for overlapping anchor points, if you want the option to select a smooth or corner join, then use Ctrl+Shift+Alt+J (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Option+J (Mac OS)."

Jul 25, 2012I know in photoshop you can make shapes with the pen tool and then covert them into a selection path.I was wondering if there is such similar feature in Illustrator
For example with the picture I posted here, what I want to do is be able to select the objects that are in contact with the black object on top without having to individually select them or use the "lasso" tool
It would make things easier with a "Select all objects under or above" option, theres only the "Select next object under or above"

You can see that the red circles intersect the blue one twice each. One of these intersects (the lower one) should be below the blue circle while the other should be above the blue circle. How can I make this happen? Can I use the shape builder tool somehow?
AutoCAD 2010 :: Dialog Boxes Not Displaying?
Feb 27, 2012When opening AutoCAD 2010, I get an error message "Unable to load profile...". This happened unexplicably. I have been using AutoCAD several months with no problems. One annoying consequence is that dialog boxes do not display. For example, running DIMSTYLE does not open the Dimension Style dialog box; instead, a list of options such as ANnotative, Save, and Restore appears. How do I get back to normal?

Oct 1, 2012I have a created a spiral path and added type to it. This spiral circles a planet-like object. This object is not completely circular, therefore overlaps some of the spiral. I would like the type on the spiral to wrap these protrusions. And I have tried the usual way of applying a text wrap (object > text wrap > make). The type on path doesn't seem to recognize the text wrap.

Mar 17, 2012I'm trying to extrude a circle around a path in all dimensions, so I drew my path in lines, filleted the corners then tried to join using the PEDIT - Join command.
Firstly, the join says something like "2 segments added to 2 polylines" when really all I want is 1 polyline.
Second, when I try to insert my circle for extrusion I OSNAP to the end of the line, then when I specify the radius it draws in the wrong plane. So far the only way I have gotten around it is rotating the ucs. Is there an easy way to do this? my Dynamic UCS is on.

1. Select the object
2. Copy and Paste in Front
3. Select > Object > Direction Handles
4. Cmd+X (Cut); do not deselect
5. Object > Path > Average: choose both axes
6. View > Guides > Make Guides
All is good & well except that step 5 never gets recorded as an action step.

Mar 13, 2012I'm trying to bring a lsp routine up to date and it's almost as if I'm a newbie again. A dialog image worked okay in 2005 but in version 2012 displays poorly. So I made a new slide in 2012 and saved it to the same name as the old one, HobMasterDialog.sld, and placed it in the same folder as the old one. However, when the dialog appears the rectangular area for the image is blank.
What am I forgetting?

Dec 24, 2012What happened to the option/enter command in the move object dialog that has been around since the early days of Illustrator??? Instead of having to mouse click the "copy" button in the move object window, one could just hold down option with Return or Enter and the Copy command would happen rather than a simple move. Immensely useful for prepress work!

AutoCad :: Join Polylines To Convert Cube Contours To Single Object
Oct 16, 2012I drew a cube using polylines by changing ucs. I want to join the polylines so that the cube contour becomes one single object.
Since the lines are in different planes I can not join them. How could I unite those 12 lines so they become a cube non solid(I plan on placing a sphere inside some of the cubes and then use "shade" for visualization so if the cube is solid I won't see the spheres).

I had no problem turning other arcs into polyline...

Dec 14, 2001I have a AutoCAD MAP drawing with the pipe size assigned as object data to various lines in the drawing.
Is it possible to display the pipe sizes as a text entity parallel to the line? How would I go about doing this. First prize would be if the value of the text changed whenever the object data is changed.
3ds Max :: 2012 / Select Object Marquee Not Displaying Correctly
May 24, 2011When I use select object, it never displays the marquee correctly. One of two things will happen.
It will
1. Not even display the marquee at all e.g. I use select object by rectangular selection and the rectangle marquee box is invisible (although I can still select things)
or
2. If the marquee does display it shows it behind the objects, instead of in front of them, as scene in the image below.

Both of them are .svg files, but whenever I press Ctrl-J it gives me a error: The selected objects cannot be joined as they are invalid objects(Compound paths, closed paths, text objects, graphs, Live Paint group) You can use the Join command to connect two or more paths, paths in groups;or to close an open paths.
(By the way, I'm using Illustrator cs6 on a trial version)
