Illustrator :: Extract Path From Type On A Path Object?
Oct 3, 2012Once you've used a path to put type on, how do you get the path back? Everything I do to recover the path deletes it.

View 2 RepliesI have some negative space I created(black area, see first image) that I want to fill with type, not just a simple fill.
Basically I want to create the negative space from a bunch of small minus signs(-) that need to line up as they go across. If I type on each path one at a time as the text doesn't line up that way. This needs to be one continuous path. (see second image)
Unfortunately if I add them together, it creates a compound path, which you cannot type on, unless I am mistaken? So I need them to be a path, not a compound object.
I have a created a spiral path and added type to it. This spiral circles a planet-like object. This object is not completely circular, therefore overlaps some of the spiral. I would like the type on the spiral to wrap these protrusions. And I have tried the usual way of applying a text wrap (object > text wrap > make). The type on path doesn't seem to recognize the text wrap.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI created text on a curved path using the pen tool and the the type on a path tool. However, there are portions of the text that I want to taper. For example, my text begins horizontally, continues to the right, and gradually curves downward. As the text curves downward I would like it to taper smoothly into a narrower and narrower text.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to create text on a circle path, so drew the circle, went to the "type on a path tool" and clicked on the circle. I keep getting the message "can't create type". I have tried to use the direct selection tool to select the circle first and without the direct selection.

You can see that the red circles intersect the blue one twice each. One of these intersects (the lower one) should be below the blue circle while the other should be above the blue circle. How can I make this happen? Can I use the shape builder tool somehow?
I have to make an illustration with a 2D text that rolls on a 3D cilindric path. I don't know if is it possible on AI. Maybe I have to do this on a 3d software?

View 2 Replies View Related1.) The type "Mariners" sloping downward in an arc. I was able to get the Seattle part using type on a path on a circle and typing on top. Question is, can I also type Mariners on the bottom of that path? I recall that not being the case. Am I supposed to draw another circle over the one that Seattle is typed on and then on that one type on the bottom?
2.) For the stitching, am I supposed to create one stitch and then create a brush, draw a curve and then apply the brush to that curve?
I'm using Illustrator CS4. I am unable to Create Outlines for a font after I had used the type on the Path Tool. I had used the ellipse tool to create a closed circular path, then I selected the Type on a Path tool. I selected my text using the arrow tool and ctrl-shift-o (Create outlines) and then I receive the message: "Can't Create type outlines." Not quite sure why this is happening. Did I miss something? The thing is this - my type is in the position and alignment that I want and I don't necessarily want to work with the Type as a Font but as vector shapes.
View 3 Replies View RelatedTrying to mask type with a vector pattern (place a vector pattern in a type clipping path), but nothing seems to be working. Never had issue before. Tried path in front, pattern in front, converting type path to compound path, converting vector to compound path. A couple of times it looked like it worked, but the pattern was invisible within the path. Illustrator CS6, on a Mac.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to change the direction of type on a path. Basically it is writing the sentence backwards right now. I need it to type right to left instead of left to right so the first word of the sentence will be all the way left instead of all the way right.

I regularly have to edit text within a grid of lines in illustrator. I can replace/edit text zoomed out, but when I try the cursor automatically changes to the type on a path tool. I then have to zoom in, edit text, zoom back out thousands of times a day. It would save me a bunch of time if I could set the type tool to ignore paths and only select text.
I could take the grid of lines on the files I'm working on and send them to back and lock them, but I am dealing with tens of thousands of files, and it's just not practical.
Any way to get rid of type on a path, or at least prevent Illustrator from automatically switching to that tool when I hover the type tool over a path?
In illustrator, is there a way to reduce anchors points in a segment path without altering the path?
Is there a better and more efficient way to reduce anchors points than using the pen-minus tool?
I've tried every permutation of copy and paste; I renamed the path to path. It looks like a path when I add stroke, but it does not behave like one. I can't cut it or join it to any other path. It remembers it's text path status. I'm running OS X 10.7.5.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI accidentally converted a path to a text path. I searched the forum for how to convert it back to a regular path. The answer I found said to select the path and hit Command+C+F. This gives me another text path! I now have at least 6 copies of the path in my files but they are ALL text paths and none are visible with a stroke.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got two paths. They don't intersect, exactly, a straight path ends at a curved path, but I need the end of the straight path to be curved, to make it look like the two meet perfectly. The two gray paths (a single path, then path->offset for the second) are the outside of a shield shape. The two black lines (paths) just surround text, but currently they overlap the gray paths.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI know in photoshop you can make shapes with the pen tool and then covert them into a selection path.I was wondering if there is such similar feature in Illustrator
For example with the picture I posted here, what I want to do is be able to select the objects that are in contact with the black object on top without having to individually select them or use the "lasso" tool
It would make things easier with a "Select all objects under or above" option, theres only the "Select next object under or above"
I want to put type on a perfect circular path. But first I need to stretch the type so it is longer vertically.Stretching type and using it as normal is easy. But how in the world do I use the stretched type on a path?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to record an action to find the center of a polygon with the following commands
1. Select the object
2. Copy and Paste in Front
3. Select > Object > Direction Handles
4. Cmd+X (Cut); do not deselect
5. Object > Path > Average: choose both axes
6. View > Guides > Make Guides
All is good & well except that step 5 never gets recorded as an action step.
I'm working on a project and I need to use the free distort tool + ctrl (command for mac users) but it won't work. I found out that I need to convert it to a smart object, from another disscussion, but right clicking the name of it in the layers menu isn't working. I'm using CS6 by the way.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWell, to join the two different parts i have choosen AE software (actually is After Effects CC).Well, as i said the animation and scenario are in a different project, and i have joined both in AE. But the scenario is not always just a landscape. Sometimes is a building that the actor walks on it, so i have (in some way) to put the actor "in" the building, and if i was working with images i would easly solve that problem: select and extract to another layer what i want to be in first place, or to be the landscape. At the same logic, how can i do this in After Effects CC?Can i extract some objects by color as i can do in Photoshop?
2º For storytelling reasons, i would like that , in some moment, everything turns gray , and the actor is colored. but there's more! i would like that the actor leaves a colored path (the path that he is taking in animation). Is there any way that i can do it?
If i cant do it, i have to re-build the entire animation in Cinema4D.
I'm trying to create an effect of small text following the outline of very large bold block text (see picture). The idea I had was to first create the 'ME' in very large font as text. Then convert that text to an object / path using "Object -> Flatten Transparency... -> "Convert all text to outline"". Then, select that path and use the "Type along path" tool.
However, when I use that process, the resulting path is a compound path that therefore the Type Along Path tool doesn't work. Any pointers on how to achieve this? The image below I just used the pencil to trace the letters (quick and dirty) but the result is choppy, etc.
Photoshop CS5. I am trying to type along a path but every time the text stops at the point in the attached screen shot, looks like a cross inside a small circle.

View 6 Replies View RelatedHas any body else noticed that if you create a work path, then create a shape layer (say a rectangle) and type some text on the rectangle (text on a path) that if you commit the type and switch to the Path Selection Tool to edit the path text (position of the starting or end points) photoshop cs6 replaces your previous workpath with a workpath of the shape layer you typed on?
Is photoshop cs6 supposed to work that way?
Windows 8 x64 and photoshop 13.01 new document a create a workpath create a rectangle shape layer and type on the rectangle shape layer path. The orginal workpath has been replaced by the rectangle shape layer path
I created a path with the type tool, selected the path in the Paths panel, I started typing on the path and the type followed the path, though I chose edit > free transform path and scaled it, though the text did not move with the new path and now it is no longer on the path?
1. Why did the text not stay on the path as I transformed it?
2. How do you hide the path so you do not have to see it? I want it there only as a guide for my text to flow across.
I have a sort of ring doughnut shape (just to be clear, a circle with the center cut out) and want to add text within this shape. To make the shape, I created a larger circle, then a smaller circle overlapping it and chose "Exclude Overlapping Shapes".
I can obviously click within the larger circle and then type along this path, either outside or inside depending on the baseline shift %, but the trouble is my text is multiple lines. When I press 'enter' I don't get a new line, I just lose the typing tool. Surely there's a way to do this? I'm using Photoshop CS6.
