I have created a sphere and mapped some type around it. However, I can't figure out how to knock out the sphere to 'clear' so I ONLY see the type and not the sphere (I'm placing the type on top of something else). I've done some searching online with no success.

Do my half circle and revolve it, map the art work and size to fit.However when I look at my grid lines at 100% they are pixelated. At 300% they are not.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to make an intricate vector design look at is if it curved, like on the surface of a ball. BUT, I want to keep it editable. I tried the Warp tool first, but it made a mess, stirring up the shape rather than simply allowing me to curve it.
So I tried making a 3D sphere, then mapping it onto that. It worked, but now whenever I try to move or rotate the thing, it doesn't work right. Also, I can't tweak the design anymore.
I have a revolved half circle and mapped a rectangle around it to form a spherical ribbon. Whenever I resize it, it looks different. How do I get it to stay the way it looks without losing resolution?

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I'm a novice at making 3D objects in Illustrator. I'm attempting to make a cut sphere in Illustrator. I'm not sure if what I want to achieve is best done through pen tool and gradients or 3D revolve. Here are some screenshots of my attemps thus far:

I'm trying to have a sphere within a sphere, with the outer sphere being cut revealing some of the inner sphere. The outer sphere will have a lower opacity.
I'm having a challeng with creating the look I want using 3D Revolve. The sphere is part of a logo, and needs to essentially match the color of part of the logo, but I also want it to have a smooth 3D quality. To start, here's the color I want to be predominant in the sphere: Here's what I've come up with thus far:This is as close as I've been able to get to the original color, but there's no gradation between the shades. Here are the 3D Revolve settings:
Surface: Plastic Shading
Light Intensity: 50%
Ambient Light: 70%
Highlight Intensity: 95%
Highlight Size: 95%
Blend Steps: 256
Shading Color: Black
And here's another experiment: This has the blend from dark to light I'm looking for, but the base color has become much more purple, and doesn't really match the original. Here are the settings for this version:
Surface: Plastic Shading
Light Intensity: 40%
Ambient Light: 0%
Highlight Intensity: 100%
Highlight Size: 100%
Blend Steps: 50
Shading Color: None
I've played around with diffuse shading, but haven't even come as close as these two samples. So basically, what I'm looking for is the base color of the first sample (maybe a little lighter), with the blend from dark to light of the second.
I've created 2 custom symbols to wrap around my sphere, but the more complex one will not map!

View 20 Replies View RelatedI'm using AI CC now, but I noticed this problem in earlier versions of AI: If I want to place a one-word label on an illustration I move the type insertion cursor to a speific point on the screen image and click, but then the flashing insertion point, where the label will actually start, pops up elsewhere, usually a line or two above where the cursor was, and a pica or two to the left, forcing me to type the label, then move it into position rather than simply typing it in the right place and moving on. The problem is merely annoying, but I'd like to fix it. It's probably a matter of ignorance-I simply haven't read the right documentation, but I don't know what to call the problem. Where can I find out how to change the position of the cursor relative to the insertion point?
View 2 Replies View RelatedEverytime I make a sphere, even if I restart illustrator and make a new document, I get that ugly dark spot in my image. I don't know what the heck it is. I've tried everything I could think of to get rid of it, but I can't seem to.
The way I made the shere was by taking an elipse, making it into a perfect circle and then using the scissor tool to make it into a half-circle, then using the Effect>3D>Revolve Menu option to generate a sphere.

I'm having a couple of problems: 1) if I put the network lines on the map it looks too flat so I think I need to apply them to a slightly larger invisible sphere; 2) when I add a blur/outer glow to the lines they do not wrap cleanly on the sphere, they kind of break up and distort. Plain lines do not seem to have this problem but objects with effects do.
I have created a sphere shaped logo for a client in AI. I've used the 3D revolve function and mapped clouds over the top of it (the clouds were drawn initially as a shape).
The client is suggesting that the sphere is not perfectly crisp and that you can see some slight stepping in the curve around the sphere and the curve around the clouds mapped to the sphere. I've not come across this before (not sure if she's just being really picky, blowing the logo up too large for scale, or I'm just missing something really stupid!).
Anything to tighten the curve of the sphere so that it is crisper?
I can definately see her point in the clouds mapped on top of it - perhaps if I try more anchor points on the clouds path, that may tighten the curve on the clouds? Is this something I can do automatically?
Also, what are the best settings to export out for the crispest format (ie, Progressive Compression + 300 dpi resolution + Art Optimised sampling?).....

I want to create text on a circle path, so drew the circle, went to the "type on a path tool" and clicked on the circle. I keep getting the message "can't create type". I have tried to use the direct selection tool to select the circle first and without the direct selection.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Type Tool does not select type by double clicking or click and drag. (Windows CS 5 V15.1). This is what I have tried so far and the problem still exists.
Check preferences for "Text": "Select text-object by path only" should be off. Checked. It was off. Didn't fix it.
Check the toggle for Show/Hide Edges in the View menu. Cmd(Ctrl)-H. Checked. Edges Showing. Didn't fix it.
Trashed my Prefeerences. Didn't fix it.
Working on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.
By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.
I don't know what happened but I'm sure when I was choosing textures form my mapped drive I coudl see the mapped drive in "select bitmap image file" window. Same goes for saving renders , no sign of mapped drives. Now somehow it's gone. I have to go to network and choose destination from there. What I have to do to see my mapped drives ? I have windows 8. I had to make extra network location to have access to that drive but still it's workaround. Why 3dsmax can't see mapped drives?

AutoCAD LT 2007 on Windows 8 - I've mapped a drive to the server under drive letter Z:, then I tried B: just for grins. The computer sees the drive, but when you go to open or save in AutoCAD the drive is not there in the tree. I've also used MKLINK in CMD to create a virtual folder, and ACAD sees the folder, but won't open it or save to it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI choose the vertical type tool or the vertical type on a path tool or the vertical area type tool...and all I get are letters that are rotated 90 degrees clockwise that go down in a vertical line. The effect is the same as if I took one of these lines that I am typeing here and rotated the entire line 90 degrees clockwise. That is not the effect I want. I am tying to get vertical letters stacked on top of one another in a line going vertical. I watched videos and they simply pick the tool and it functions this way, but when I pick the same tool I do not get this vertical orientation of the individual letters, but the 90 degree rotated letter.

it is just taking a bit-map and turning into a vector image. Can you use photoshop or do you have to a vector based program like illustrator.
I have a small issue I think it has something to do with lighting or views. I have posted pics of what the materials are doing on the model. Is there some check mark that I need to uncheck so that the materials I am placing are always dark and they don't end up fading out? Note, if I rotate the my model the materials will reappear then fade out again when I stop rotating.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to work out the optimal workflow for doing HDR (using HDR EFEX 2) on a set of images. I can apply LR's Lens Correction (Nikon, 17-55mm F2,8) and chromatic aberation removal on the whole set set (using LR Sync) before I export to HDR - then turn off the Chromatic Aberation fix in HDR - and that gives me one workflow.
However, that makes a lot of changes to the TIF's before I go in - so I am wondering if it would be better to export the RAW files converted to TIF using minimal changes from LR e,g, no CA fix or Lens Profile correction; let the HDR do its thing and then make profile corrections, Upright, etc upon return from HDR. However, when I get back from HDR and go into Develop with the returned file and go to Lens Correction, I cannot chose the 17-55mm F2.8 lens from the drop downs. There are only about 4 or 5 lenses now showing as Nikon possibilities-and the 17-55 is NOT among them.
How come I don't still see the full list of Nikon profiles - shoudln't I be able to apply any profile to a TIF (even an incorrect one) ?
I tried pasting the Develop Settings from a virtual copy where I had set the Lens Profile to 17-55 F2.8 - but that only turns on the Lens Profile 'filter' and does not actually force-on the specific correction.
I want to put type on a perfect circular path.But first I need to stretch the type so it is longer vertically.Stretching type and using it as normal is easy.But how in the world do I use the stretched type on a path?

I know that I can lay in an AI type layer and save the file as an open .PSD file, or lay it in as a vector smart object and send it as an open TIFF file (along with the original AI file), but the client is using CS2 and can't deal with VSOs. The way around it, of course, is via a layered AI file with a placed image, but what is he referring to with hte term "vector map"?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have imported a path of GPS points and have them mapped in autocad where I want them, what I now need to do is place a symbol (a circle with an M in the middle of it) over each dot. I have the symbol as a separate layer but know no easy way to add this symbol to each dot so that the dot is in the centre of the circle. I can simply copy and paste the symbol and drag manually to each dot but this will take forever as there is over a thousand dots and accuracy of the dot being centered would not be spot on.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have cdx5 (fully patched) running on a windows 7 pro x64 machine (c++, directx, updates all current) that has an issue when saving a file to a mapped network drive. The file will save error free but when you try to open the file again at a later date it gives a c++ runtime error (this application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unexpected way).
If i save the file locally then move it to the network share it seems fine. It can be opened and edited with out issue.
CDx5 needs to save to the mapped drive as the server runs onsite and offsite backups. There is a large volume of files that are changed/created daily. Saving locally and then copied to the server manually is also not an option as the user cannot be relied upon to ensure the files are copied to the server.
