When I try to copy and paste a graphic into another illustrator file I get the message: "Can't paste the objects. The requested transformation would make some objects fall completely off the drawing area?" Do I need to change a pref setting? I'm using illus cs5.
View 13 RepliesI'm working a drawing orginally developed in C3D 2013 and am now working in 2014. I have developed a speadsheet in Excel 2007 and have link pasted a portion of a worksheet into my drawing. Later, i have to re link paste the same portion of the worksheet after making some edits and the object will now not paste into the drawing.I have tried the following without sucess:
-Load drawing into C3D 2013 and try to paste
-Load drawing into C3D 2014 on another machine and try to paste
-Save excel spreadsheet as a .xls file instead of .xlsx and try to paste
-Run audit in 2014 (no errors) and try to paste
Other drawings loaded into 2014 work OK when link pasting.
I can't paste any object only in one drawing

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I click on a civil 3d object the contextual ribbon will light up (which is fine) but instead of my cross hairs comming back in the drawing window I get the pointer that would be used to select an item in the ribbon (in the drawing area) and I have to click in the drawing area to get my cross hairs back or to grip edit the object or to delete the object.
Is there a option/setting I need to change to be able to get me cross hairs back after selecting a civil 3d object?
Just move to Civil 3d 2012, this worked just fine in '11...

I have a type object with an opacity mask created in one document. When I copy and paste this object into a new file the text is pasted without the opacity mask attributes. I can separately copy and paste the opacity mask object but then I face a tricky realignment to repeat.
Is there a way to find the exact area of an irregularly shaped object? If there is, does the procedure work for compound paths (objects with holes in them)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn InDesign I can press W to show or hide everything around the page I am working on. In Illustrator I can't find a similar option. I am working on something and a lot of things are outside of the actual drawing area. The problem is that I see everything all the time and so I never get a good impression of how the illustration will look when finished/printed! I now have to export a jpg in order to get a good impression! Or I have to add a layer on top of everything and place white blocks around the actual drawing area in order to get a good impression of the actual artwork.

Is there a trick to pasting a pixel-perfect vector image from Illustrator into Photoshop as a smart object, and not introduce a bunch of anti-aliasing that was not in the original file? My images are perfectly aligned with the pixel grid in Illustrator, and the pixel preview shows them correctly.
This page is useful for dealing with vector shape layers, but the techniques he talks about don't work for smart objects. Strangely, he says he doesn't have a problem with smart objects, but I do.
Here is an example of what I'm talking about: a simple 13x13 pixel image in Illustrator turns to crap in Photoshop when pasted as a smart object (I know an image as simple as this could be pasted as a shape layer, but the real images I'm working with are much more complex, and cannot be pasted as simple shape layers).

I have to use a german version of Illustrator and will be translating names of menu items.
I'm working with an illustrator file with several drawing areas. I often need to insert a new drawing area. I then reposition the new area and the content of the old ones by the menu item "arange drawing areas" ("Zeichenflächen neu anordnen") and check the check box "move content with drawing area" (Bildmaterial mit Zeichfläche verschieben"). However, this does not move elements which have been hidden or disabled using the according icons in the layers dialog. How can I achieve this? Actually I would be happy if invisible content would be moved together with its drawing area, since it is somewhat logic that disabled contents are not moved.

I am working with Photoshop Elements 11. I have a picture that I want to place into a banner. When I do this I find that the height of the picture is fine but it is not wide enough. BUT to the leftside of the picture the background is such that I can cut it out and use it to fill the space on the left and right sides.
I know how to do selections with marquee tool etc but not how to copy and paste a selected area. Is there a tool or method that will do this for me?
I have to design some things that will be fairly complex and also completely symmetrical. if there's anyway to have Illustrator automatically mirror something as i draw it, how the object is coming along big picture-like. I know this is possible in 3d programs I've used like 3DS max, but not sure about Illustrator. Or is there another CAD type program they'll do it that I could then import into illustrator?

When I copy and from his drawing onto my clipboard and paste it into mine it is waaaayyyy small.
The scale his drawing says it is drawn in is 1:1
Mine is 1/4"=1'-0"
When I xreffed it into my drawing it did the same thing. What do I do?
After selecting the area type tool, I try to click and drag but I get an error message: You must click on a non-compound, non-masking path to create text inside a path. This worked before but I must have screwed something up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using InDesign CS5 and Photoshop CS5 and have scanned full color illustrations into Photoshop. I am preparing 7x10 saddle stitch and casebound books with the illustrations which need at a 1/8" bleed area. My problem is the illustrations have key elements right up to the edge of them. I need to add complementary colors to fill in the bleed area around them so I don't lose any of the originals. What is the best way to do this? Also, I need to copy colors from the illustrations and make separate pages of the colors to import into InDesign. What is the best method to do this? The colored pages will be the background with story text on them and reside opposite to the illustrations.

I am trying to put an angled border around a straight picture and remove the portion of the picture outside the border.
I can't figure out how to remove the portions of the picture which fall outside the border.
I need a sub assembly for a lane that you can specify varying cross fall. i.e it starts at -2.5% and ends at +2.5%.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using AutoCad LT 2013 at work. My issue is I have always been able to highlight and object and then enter my command and perform that command. Something happened and now when I highlight then enter my command and press enter it un-highlights the object and prompts me to highlight the object again. Also if I want to copy and paste a highlighted object it wont allow me unless I type in the command first. I can't figure out what I did.

I am attempting to copy and paste a part of a drawing from AutoCAD 2011 into ms, Excel or Word. I am able to copy within a vport so my whole screen is not copied. My problem is only 2D objects show up when I paste. I tried different visual styles and colors but still cant get my solid objects to appear.

Newer AEC objects will be disallowed from participating in this operation”. And I cannot paste the object copied from other file. This happened to me when I work with Autocad2010 using drawings saved as Autocad2004 in Autocad2013.
