To transform patterns but not objects when using a transform tool, hold down the tilde key (~) while dragging. The borders of the object appear to be transformed, but when you release the mouse button, the borders snap back to their original configuration, leaving only the pattern transformed. URL..
It seems this shortcut works only with US and UK keyboard.
I'm using a french keyboard where it doesn't work, probably because there is'nt any key especially dedicated to the Tilde sign (~), and you need to combine multiple keys to get this symbol (Alt GR + the key 2 above the key Z) .
I finally found the shortcut on MAC which is the keyboard key with the britisih pound sterling symbol (£). But not on PC !!!how to get this shortcut on PC with a french keyboard ?
Is there a way to change the shortcut for this very useful option, without having to take care of the kind of keyboard ?

Sep 27, 2012I created a square in which I have to draw vertical lines in it. I want the first line to start at 2.5 cm from the left segment of the square.
In a different way to say it just to be clear enough, I want to align the segment (inside the square) from the left vertical line of the square, put 2.5 cm to the right, and then there's my line.
When I try to align it using the align tool, I use the square as a key object. But it select ALL the square, so it puts my line 2.5 cm but to the far right of the square, outside my artwork. I'd want to select only the left line of the square.

Jun 28, 2013I have a complex object (a plot with a bunch of text labels, etc.), and I want to stretch it horizontally or vertically without distorting text. I have an option to scale or not to scale strokes,. However, whatever I select here, the text always ends up distorted.
Is there a way to stretch it so that the text retains it's original shape?

Jun 19, 2012If I copy object and text at the same time, it will only paste the text and the object is disappear, but it's no problem if I copy them separately. Besides, If I copy multiple text objects, they will be combined to 1 text object and the font will be changed when I paste.

Dec 11, 2012I have some 3D sand in a bottle and I'm trying to map a sand symbol to it, but it's coming up way to large. Illustrator will not let me duplicate the image when I try apply it through 3D extrude & bevel - map art option. It doesn't seem like this should be a difficult task. Basically, my sand picture is 1000px x 1000px. I saved it as a jpeg, then imported it into my swatch gallery in illustrator (pretty sure that's the correct way). When I try to apply it to my sand using "map art" I have the option to "scale to fit" which distorts the image horribly. I want it to be a 1:1 ratio, if that makes sense, only smaller and duplicated 10x or whatever to cover the whole object. It's not a seamless picture that I'm mapping, so if there's a filter that I can apply that would make it less noticable. I'll attach a screenshot of the sand to show you what I'm talking about. The top layer of sand looks almost perfect, but the bottom one looks terrible because I had to stretch symbol to cover the whole object. If you can tell from the image, each grain of sand is stretched horizontally by like 10 so it doesn't even look like sand.

I am having trouble makeing this look right when the perspective is skewed a lot (see right brick wall), the left brick wall isn't too bad. I used an envelope mesh 1 2 rows and 1 column. Oct 29, 2012I created a pattern in illustrator, and then I created an object, and I wanted to fill half of the object with the pattern, so I used a clipping mask to do this.. however, now when i try to group everything together, the clipping mask in released and the pattern spills all over the artbaord... when i try to copy and paste into a new document, everything is pasted as white instead. When i try to merge the layers, the clipping mask is released...
How to keep the clipping mask from releasing.. Also, I tried rasterizing but that doesn't work either and it makes my shapes all rough and choppy!

Aug 24, 2012I'd like to scale, rotate, and/or reposition a pattern-filled Live Paint cell, without cuting the cell from the Live Paint object. Can I do that? I routinely do this in normal objects, using the "~" key trick, but this only seems to work globally, on a Live Paint object (scales all pattern fills, not just one cell).
I'm still using CS5, but am interested to know if it can be done in CS6 as well.
Photoshop :: Trick To Paste Pixel-perfect Vector Image From Illustrator As Smart Object
Aug 23, 2012Is there a trick to pasting a pixel-perfect vector image from Illustrator into Photoshop as a smart object, and not introduce a bunch of anti-aliasing that was not in the original file? My images are perfectly aligned with the pixel grid in Illustrator, and the pixel preview shows them correctly.
This page is useful for dealing with vector shape layers, but the techniques he talks about don't work for smart objects. Strangely, he says he doesn't have a problem with smart objects, but I do.
Here is an example of what I'm talking about: a simple 13x13 pixel image in Illustrator turns to crap in Photoshop when pasted as a smart object (I know an image as simple as this could be pasted as a shape layer, but the real images I'm working with are much more complex, and cannot be pasted as simple shape layers).
I'm using Photoshop CS4.
Illustrator :: Adding Grain Pattern - Unwanted Bevel Effect Around The Object?
Jun 3, 2013When adding a grain pattern effect to an object in Illustrator CS6 I get an odd bevel that surrounds the object. There is nothing in the Appearance window to suggest that there should be a bevel and I didn't add it myself.
Is there some setting I am missing or an easy way to remove the effect? For now I am masking the object with a slightly smaller object but it's starting to drastically increase the size of my file.

Dec 3, 2010I really enjoy this new draw inside feature in Illustrator. But, I find that it does not always work. It seems to be grayed out sometimes. For example, I have drawn a shape with my Wacom tablet using a blush. I then converted it to a shape instead of keeping it a stroke by expanding it. But it will not allow me to now draw inside of it, even though it is a shape.

May 26, 2012I played with the feature a bit and understand how to create the patterns. Problem is when I go to fill in my 12x12 space there are seams. I have chosen different sizes in the pattern window but all show up with seams when I fill the larger space. Jun 23, 2012I love the new Pattern Maker in CS6, but I keep running into a problem:
When I create a pattern that is NOT tiled in Grid (i.e. Brick), it usually works without any problem. But once I save and re-open the file, opening the pattern in PM again will show this message:
A clipping mask was created around the pattern tile bounds to preserve legacy pattern appearance. For best results, release the clipping mask when changing the tile size or editing art that overlaps the tile edge. I would then find that, instead of a single motif layed out in a Brick tile, I would have one complete motif in the center and four quartered motifs on the corners of one clipping box. This is tiled in a Grid pattern to emulate a Brick appearance.
So long story short, what's supposed to be a Brick tile turns into a Grid tile that's faking a Brick tile.
Is there a way to keep the simple Brick tiles?

Nov 15, 2011Okay I have been a avid user of Photoshop for years and I mean well over 10 years now. And I thought why not try something new, plus I saw something that GIMP could do that Photoshop couldn't so I went ahead a downloaded the program, but since I am so used to Photoshop I sort of expected GIMP to be almost the same as Photoshop and well it isn't. (Don't judge me now) so I have a few questions on certain things.
1: How do you select an object inside the layer, with PS you can just ctrl click in the window and poof it's there around your selected item, But GIMP doesn't do that so how do you do that in GIMP?
2: When using the circle tool, I get this green box thing around the whatever it's called and I don't see any marching ants. What am I doing wrong and how do I get that to go away if it's possible?
3: where is the crop tool? What does it look like?
4: How come some of the options for the brushes won't allow you the change them? like for instance, if I go to windows>brushes and double click on any of the brushes another window pops open and it says: Brush editor read only. What does that mean? You can't make any of the brushes in spatter brushes?

Jun 8, 2012so im drawing a 3d object in an isometric view. it is a 3d extruded object. essentially it is an extruded decagonal tube. i have, at the bottom, a line marking the center of the decagon so i can snap to it, draw a decagon for the base, and extrude it. problem is, i go to draw the decagon (or anything, for that matter), and i cant snap to the inside of the solid. autocad will only let me select the face of the object. is this a setting i can uncheck, or do i have to change the way i am drawing this?

I have been searching around and it seems like GetPrivateStream is the way to go.
Any working example of GetPrivateStream in vb.net and confirm if it actually stores the data inside the part.
I can't find a solution anywhere or any decent referencing material for this. If there is a better method of achieving this?
