Illustrator :: After Viewing And Closing File In AI - Can Delete It But Not Its Folder
Sep 13, 2012
I’m going through a bunch of old files to see what I can git rid of.
After I view and then close a file in Illustrator CS6 I can delete the file, but not its containing folder, which stays locked, even after closing Illustrator. Restarting and closing Illustrator again usually enables me to delete the folder — but not always. Sometimes I have to close everything and log out and back in to be able to delete the folder. (BTW, Acrobat and Photoshop also share this problem.)
When you have, as I do, hundreds of files to go through, this becomes a real hassle.
Today as a precautionary measure I downloaded the Adobe font test to do a scan on my fonts to see if any is corrupt. The test showed that all my fonts passed. 3 questions though:
1. Does the script work with photoshop CC?
2. Could I just delete the font test jsx file from the folder when I am done with the test? Or should I keep it there?
3. During the initial process, I was unable to proceed and got an error message "failed to get path for font cache files". As such I unticked the clear font caches to proceed. Would this have affected the results?
What if I have created 7 logo versions. I want the client to view these 7 versions as one file (maybe one PDF file with 1 logo per page). Each logo version is on its own layer in Illustrator right now. How do I convert each logo/layer to a multi-page PDF file? Since this is just for viewing, I don’t have to submit EPS files yet to the client.
I want to be able to look at all the thumbnails of images in a folder which in itself contains several sub-folders, rather than having to go into each subfolder to view the images. Elements 11.
Closing Photoshop CC seems to deletes all my files in and only in the Documents folder. The exact steps of what I did can be viewed here: URL.....This only happens to Ps, any other Adobe softwares will not cause this. I am 100% sure that it is the closing event that causes the deletion. After reading URL.. I tried to turn off the antivirus, reinstall Ps and creative cloud, but nothing worked for me. I also tried both 32 bit and 64 bit version, but both produced the same problem. This problem only comes up in Windows 8.1 and not Windows 8.
it is to change the folder name, but then I have to change the settings for other softwares which uses that folders and this is just stupid, I want a more robust solution and the cause. The only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling the OS.
My PC info: OS: Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit) Processor: Intel i5-4430 3.0GHz RAM: 1600MHz 8GB (dual-channel) HDD: 120GB SSD GPU: GTX 660
I have to reuse a old ai file with a linked file and make some modification. But I don't need the linked file in my revised ai file.
how to delete the linked file, so that I need not to click "ignore" button on the pop-up box of reminding me unable to find the linked file when I open the new ai file each time.
How do I delete a missing, unwanted linked file from an AI file? The referenced link is completely gone and is not needed. It can't be relinked or removed since it no longer exists. It is has been a phantom for as long as I have been using the AI file and I would like to clear the "Could not find the linked file" pop up every time I load the AI file.
I save a lot of files to "save for web". After saving PS asks if I want to save changes to the original file. I never want to save the changes to the original. Since the default is to change the file I am afraid I will accidentally OK the change without wanting to. I would like it to stop asking and just not save it. Is there a way?
I'm trying to use some images in my ScriptUI dialog, but I want to use a "relative" path name, and I can't seem to get it to work. For example, this myScript.jsx works just fine, but as you can see, I'm using an "absolute" path name to transparencyGrid.jpg:
var w = new Window ("dialog"); var f = new File ('~/Desktop/transparencyGrid.jpg'); w.add ("image", undefined, f); w.show ();
However, I want to be able to use a relative (to myScript.jsx) path to point at transparencyGrid.jpg, like this:
var w = new Window ("dialog"); var f = new File ('../../../transparencyGrid.jpg'); w.add ("image", undefined, f); w.show ();
But, I can't seem to get this to work because relative paths seem to be relative to the current folder, Folder.current, not the location of the currently executing script.I say that because when I do this:
alert(Folder.current);
The only thing the alert message shows is a backslash (/), indicating to me that the current folder is the root of my OS, but I thought it would be the folder where myScript.jsx resides.
So, is there a way of setting Folder.current to the location of the actual script?
New to this Photoshop lark, I imported a load of pictures (via PSE11) and then cut and paste them into a new folder in Windows 7 (I know, probably where I went wrong). So I have three folders on PSE11 that I want to get rid of. To be honest I still have the files on my SD card so I would like to get rid of all the files and folders I have messed about with today and start again.
When i try to delete a file from LR using the delete from disk option the file does not so up in my trash. I have deleted 200 bad files and the never showed up in the trash. I have been trying to clear up some disk space but the available disk still shows the same so I know they haven't been deleted. Am using Lion on a MacBook Pro 15 and am fully updated. Am I doing something wrong?
Over time, I've organized related keywords into various folders for simplicity. I come to find that I don't care for this system and I wish to have all my keywords in a single list without being grouped into folders.
How do I move (not delete) individual keywords out of the folders where they currently are located?
Instead of "removing" a folder with thousands of photos I went in to Windows Explorer deleted the catalog, the locked file and a few other folders. However, when I try to delete the folder with all the thousands of previews folders in it I get a message telling me that I can't delete them because they are being used by another program. I don't have Lightroom open when I try to do this so my question is: how can I simply delete those folders from my hard drive?
Do I have to un-install Lightroom to do this? Hopefully not.
I made a project in after effect and it has alot of pictures. I'd like to delete the pictures from my project folder but when i do the pictures are deleted in the after effects project. Is there a way i can embed the pictures so i can delete them from my folder?
I have a problem with Illustrator CS6.When I try to save in .ai or other format, I have a Windows error message like "Illustrator has stopped working".And Illustrator close it.
Not sure of the version of MDT files, but they won't export into Inventor 2011 so they are older than MDT 2009.
I have been trying to figure out why client cannot see objects drawn in MDT when opened in vanilla Acad. I had him check what I believe is the main variable affecting this, proxy show, and it was set to 0. After setting it to 1 and doing a regen, still nothing.
I also checked proxy graphics and proxy notice and they are both set to 1, but neither affect this issue directly.
I've had a few people check this file on their systems and they can see the objects. Various O.S.'s were used to test the file, Win7/64 and 32, however the client who is having problems is using WinXP/32. I am also able to open and see the object on another WinXP system.
Something else to note, I realize this isn't the correct way to use aectoacad, but I tried opening the file in vanilla Acad and used that export to acad command and guess what? The client can see the object now!
I thought export to acad (aka aectoacad) was suppose to be used from what ever application the dwg first originated in?!?! If it works this way then so be it!
I have created virtual copies of an image in Lightroom 4 and I am wondering what will happen to these if I delete the folder containing the master image and its virual copies from the LR4 catalog? Will the virtual copies be automatically deleted? If so, is this reversible in any way? Will i recover these virual copies if I add the folder back into LR's catalog later on?
Also will Adobe Bridge be able to read these virtual copies in both before and even after the folder has been removed from LR4? Or is the 'virtual copy' functionality specific to LR and that the only way to preserve it is to keep the original image within LR and never delete it?
I'm having an issue with layers not opening properly. I have a file that is a .psd, and when I open it initially, the layers are there. Then, if I save it, it pops up a box saying "because of the limitations of the specified file format (and possibly the save options you have selected), group data will be converted to raster data. Would you like to continue?
If I hit "yes", when I reopen the file, it only has 2 layers. What do I need to do in order to save it with all the layers in tact?
I have this PNG file, when I view the image online or using the Windows default photo viewer, it looks perfect. I put it in CS4 and it looks jagged and terrible.
I get it on closing the Video Studio Pro 14.1.0.107.(S.Pac 2) I initialy got it when trying Corel's trial download so went and bought the Package, retail, thinking (foolishly) that that would solve the problem. I have spent hours on line with Corel Tech who said it was a conflict with jscript.dll in Explorer 9. I reverted back to Explorer 8 but no luck. It makes no difference whether V.S has files active or not so it is not a function of source files.
As youcan see on my profile - Windows 7, Home premium; 3.2 Gig Intel Core2 Duo; 3518 MB RAM; 500 Gig HD; 1024 MB NVidia GT 440 Video card.
Several times when closing an IDW the image of the file reamains on the screen. The Tab for the file in the lower left hand corner dissapears but the image stil remains on the screen. You have to navigate to another open invnetor file in order for this image to dissapear. If you are not paying close attention you can inadvertantly close several files by repeatedly trying to close the "image" that is still on the screen. I am only seeing this on one of our workstations. Coulod this be a video card error or a setting?
I started using GIMP on a PC a couple of months ago after developing skills in PS over the years on my Macs at home and at work.
I like GIMP and it's stable nature along with everything else... in addition to allot of standard photo editing and graphics creation, I recently used it for some of the animation filters, which are nice.
The only problem I'm having is that when I create a path, or multiple paths, and have them in the paths palette, after I save and close the file that contains the paths, the next time I open that file my paths are gone... completely disappeared.
AutoCAD 2013, 60-90 days into it, upgraded from 2007.
I have 2 of 4 workstations with this issue, AutoCAD will automtically save the file when the files is closed, w/o any prompts to verify of we want to saved or not.
I have my Options|Autosave turned off, but this should not affect the save on close it should only create a continual ac$ backup file.
This is now the 2nd time this has occured. In early March we noticed this and in dealing with AutoCAD (Suscription Service) we finally deceided to restore AutoCAD to factory defaults, which did fix the issue at the time. However it also meant that I needed to retore all the pathways and our standards. Once completed, I paid particular attention to ensuring that AutoCAD was NOT saving the file on close and it was doing so up until earlier this week, when I noticed it SAVING on close again.
Now most of you might think, hey thats a good thing, however, we routinely will test modifications to our layouts on our working files, but dont want to actually modify those files and then we would simply close the drawing w/o saving thus ensuring that those mods were not saved.
In March, both 2007 & 2013 did this, however only my 2013 is affected now.
Trying to create a bit of code that when the 'OnNew Document' event is fired the code checks for a particular Custom Property. Depending on what the Custom Property is set to a form is then fired with relevant text to point the user to a specific area in the workspace. Al this works ok.
But if they press cancel i need the code close the activate 'Part1' which inturn then allows the user to select 'New' to begin again.
I have tried various scenarios but the main problem is that Inventor then crashes!
PublicSub applicationEvents_OnNewDocument(DocumentObject As Inventor._Document, BeforeOrAfter As Inventor.EventTimingEnum, Context As Inventor.NameValueMap, ByRef HandlingCode As Inventor.HandlingCodeEnum) Handles applicationEvents.OnNewDocument
I can not seem to save to web and be able to immediately view the image. I have Illustrator CC and as per my Instructor request to save to the web with Illustrator CS6. What happens is the image is not easily available and you have to spend a considerable amount of time trying to locate the image, this is not acceptable.
I am evaluating VS Pro X4 (trial version) and one of my tests consists in importing a .m2ts clip, strip some parts of the original clip and save it in the same formats (codec, resolution, aspect ratio, file) as the imported clip.
The original clip is a NTCS HDMV file format (with the .m2ts extension), H.264 video 720p60 (16:9), digital Audio Dolby (AAC).
I'm able to do the first 2 steps without any problem. However, when I want to save the result in a file, I cannot find any way to indicate the software to save in the same format as the original clip. So I am looking for any way to save the video in a 720p60 (59.94 to be accurate) with the same video and audio codec that can be read by a PS3 console (H264, AAC) as a .m2ts file.
Is it possible to do this using VS Pro X4? Or do I need to use a non-trial version? Or do I need to use the Ultimate version? Or is it simply impossible to do this (yet)?
Things I tried:When I want to create a video file, and choose "as per project's parameters". But it appears they are set to NTSC SD for DVD-like output. If I go in the project's parameters menu, there is no way I can set the resolution to 720p60 HD.Among the AVCHD outputs in "Create a video file", I only find 1080i and 1080p resolutions. Same for Blu-Ray outputs. Why is there no 720p resolution in both outputs? In the "Customized" output, there is no way I can set the resolution to 720p60 HD. Is it normal?
After downloading the Autodesk Inventor 2013, I was forced to download the hotfix. I completed the download, and started up Inventor. My force closed crash report directed me to the most updated update, which I then installed to no avail. I've sent an additional crash report, but I've yet to recieve any feedback. When I go to either load the .ipt blank file, or even close the welcome center tab (to be able to access the tools to troubleshoot) It shuts down.

If I were to work on a file and proceed to close it and then re-open it with the intent of undoing or recovering information, is there anyway to do this?
It may be useful for me and others to know if there is a way round in case this does happen.
