After filling the inside of a line drawing, (cartoon "shape"), I'm left with the checkerboard pattern that indicates transparency. I'd just like to get rid of that checkerboard pattern so I can view my drawing the way it really looks! Can this be done in GIMP?

the line drawing has a dozen or so areas created by the intersecting lines. I would like to fill the various areas with different colors. How can I do that?
If I pour a color paint on the picture without doing anything, the entire page changes to the color poured. Not what I want to do. I want area A to be red, area B to be blue, and area C to be yellow.
I'm working on a project for work and I just started to play with GIMP for real after knowing about it for a few years.
Basically what I would like to do is take a background image, put a grid on it, and fill the squares in the grid with custom (not random) colors. Every spot on the grid will have a fill color.
I was thinking that I would use Excel to create a comma delimited file with each cell containing the correct color, and I want to know if there's a way for GIMP to read a hex value, color the square of the grid corresponding to the hex value, then move on to the next square.
I was thinking of something like photoshop can do. Have like a 32x32 pixel grid, then within that 32x32 square a 1x1 pixel grid show up? Of course a different lin maybe dotted?

However, when I click within an area I wanted coloured, I get a thin white line between the colour and the black outline. No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of this except to keep on clicking the colour until the line disappears. Is there a quick and more effective way of filling colour without this hassle?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a cartoon line drawing. The black outlines are anti aliased so the edges of the lines have different grades of gray pixels on them. When I use the fill tool, and adjust the fill with the opacity and tolerance sliders, (I think that's what they're called in GIMP), I still can't get what I want. Only some of the gray pixels are colored in. Others are canceled out. Completely covered by the color, erasing some of the line.
Or some pixels remain uncolored. Just gray instead of a combination of the gray AND the fill color. What I'm looking for is an effect that looks like I placed a colored gel shaped like the cartoon character over the drawing. All the different shades of gray pixels should still be seen. Even the ones that are lighter than the fill color. With a gel, those pixels would appear darker, even though they were lighter than the fill color without the gel over them. The darkness of the color PLUS the added darkness of even the lightest gray pixels should make all the pixels appear darker. And the line would appear complete. Not partially erased.
Is it at all possible to get this effect?
Paint Shop Pro X4 14.2.0.1 Vista 64. Suddenly I cannot erase parts of the background image and create the checkerboard pattern. The erased area becomes white regardless of pallette color settings. Just to make sure I wasn't losing my mind I tried the same thing in my old PSP 7 and the checkerboard pattern does appear when erasing parts of the background image. I have reinstalled the program with the same results.
Solved: Recently recalibrated my monitor. The default color of the checkerboard was so light that it appeard white!! Chose dark gray and all is well.

The dotted line is a path; so if I use a line for the dots, the bucket-fillworks.
But how can I step back after filling to change the path's line into dotsagain?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt's just supposed to be a plain black logo, which I've extracted from an image and smoothed/sharpened the edges (they were very rough even before the extraction process). But somehow I've introduced this faint ghost line about 1mm in from the edges of the logo, and I can't get rid of them even if I draw over the entire logo with jet black.
The ghost line becomes most apparent when I anchor the transparency to a white background. Here is zoomed segment of the logo demonstrating the issue:
There is none of this effect on my original full size transparency. It must happen during during the smooth process. Process I used:
- Alpha to selection
- Shrink by a few mm
- invert
- gaussian blur
- colour->curves-> and resharpen smoothed/blurred edges using the 'alpha' graph
every time that I want to expend my picture resolution I using the crop tool and make the photo bigger but PS filling the new area with transparency instead of white. How can I set it to be white by default ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm drawing some illustrations and want to fill overlapping objects with a paper texture. I have done this using the Transparency window and placing a paper texture image over each object. The problem is that where the objects overlap to create the whole picture, they are quite transparent and so you get the effect of layers of tissue paper. I want each object to look completely opaque, but despite opacity being set to 100% on each object, they don't.
I've tried filling the objects with lighter / darker paper texture images and tweaking the Transparency settings to Darker / Ligher / Soft or hard light, etc.
When removing a background..your left with a checkerboard background. When you try to take that image with the checkerboard background, and place it over another image..you can't see the image behind the checkerboard (under it)...how does one correct this...so one can see both images, without "any" background.

If I create a new image, it is only as large as that image. If I move the image off of it the image is no longer visible.
I don't know how to use the checkerboard and how to manipulate it.
im writing text inside a shape and ive got that far ive even changed font sizes, now id like to write smaller text in the gaps between different font sizes. im using PSCS2.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am currently working on making a lens profile and the instructions are pretty annoying as they require the calibration chart to remain in the same spot while you tilt the camera as well as move the camera around to make sure that you are tilting the camera to bring the calibration chart close to a side of the frame but not clipping it and also staying within an angle of 10-30 degrees.
This seems overcomplicated, instead, why cant adobe make a single calibration grid where the camera is positioned in such a way that it fills the entire frame as much as possible without clipping, then it simply corrects using the single chart.
With the way it is now, unless you have the camera on a computer controlled dolly and computer controlled head, you will not be able to make a completely accurate lens profile.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHow do you draw a line within a shape? I know how to make a circle or rectangle (through the circle or rectangle select tool/stroke path) and how to draw straight lines. I want to take a box like this:

1 1
-----
and add a line through the center like this:
-----
1 1
1-----1
1 1
-----
And of course I'd prefer the line be neat, from one end of the shape to the other, not just a sloppily drawn line.
Of course I can do this very slowly by drawing the line, zooming way in, and manually moving the line into place. But surely there's a better way!
I guess we're talking simple vector graphics--I'm working on a rivets layer and want to add a matrix of dotted lines to complement a fuselage. My challenge is that most of the lines should be slanted. I've been looking for some "line tool" that creates a straight line between two defined points. It seems, however, that Gimp has no vector tool. Maybe I can address this by drawing a right angled matrix and then use a perspective tool?

So, I want to use a grid that I can fill in the individual sections of to create this image, and then remove the grid afterwards when I finish, or at least make it completely invisible.

how to mirror about a line, but the line was outside the object.
I now have a need to mirror about a line but the line is partially inside the object (so after mirroring the object would be overlapped). When I select both objects and try to create the mirror, the "axis" of the reflection is simply the edge of the object, not the line.
When the line was outside, that worked simply because when you selected both objects the line brought the outside of both selected objects to that point so it simply mirrored / reflected at that point (the line). So the line was not truly acting as a point of reflection. Hope that made sense.
I think I'm about to buy Cadtools from Macromonster but I would like to know if Draw has a way of acheiving this. Hey I may find out Cadtools can't reflect when the line is inside the object.
I've created a 2-point persective grid on top of a cube (see image below). I'm tyring to recreate the cube and have started by inserting some purple squares into the right side of the perspective grid. I've drawn an ellipse at the corner of the original cube that I'm trying to copy, to indicate where I need my squares to stretch to.
How I can stretch my purple squares in perspective so that they match the end of the orignal cube as indicated in the image below? I've tried skewing but this doesn't skew in perspective.
I just tried the pdf export of a multipage document. When I open it in Reader or Acrobat I see a grid where the page is not covered (transparency grid?). It has nothing to do with the Reader feature - the grid is in the pdf (I can see it with Pitstop in wireframe mode). Can't find where to turn it off.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to trace around an image to create a line drawing. The object I'm tracing has a lot of curves in it so using the Pencil Tool. Also, I've used the Paths Tool and then clicked "stroke path". That's all fine and well but it's taking FOREVER to trace the picture.
Since the image has a lot of curves is there a tool or gadget in Gimp that can provide a smooth curve, say, around a circle?
I'm wanting to do something seemingly very simple but I've never tried working with pictures before other than to resize or crop. How do I convert a simple picture to a line drawing?

btw, who forgot to implement the use of Illustrators colours into the transparency grid feature, leaving it using the Mac OS X UI colour pickers is a bizarre choice.
When I draw a character, i cannot change line weight of fill shapes. When I do so it remains unchanged, however once I export everything is fine and okay.
