I'm drawing some illustrations and want to fill overlapping objects with a paper texture. I have done this using the Transparency window and placing a paper texture image over each object. The problem is that where the objects overlap to create the whole picture, they are quite transparent and so you get the effect of layers of tissue paper. I want each object to look completely opaque, but despite opacity being set to 100% on each object, they don't.
I've tried filling the objects with lighter / darker paper texture images and tweaking the Transparency settings to Darker / Ligher / Soft or hard light, etc.

After filling the inside of a line drawing, (cartoon "shape"), I'm left with the checkerboard pattern that indicates transparency. I'd just like to get rid of that checkerboard pattern so I can view my drawing the way it really looks! Can this be done in GIMP?

I want to produce a white image of a stag without a background. I traced the image and have it rendered with a path using the stroke tool. You can see the stroke selected below.
My goal is to remove the green circle in the background and save the white stag only. Right now the stroke is not filled -- the white color is the transparent background. This is what the image looks like in Illustrator without the background and no color applied to the stroke.
Of course if I deselect the stroke, the object disappears, and when I save it, there's nothing visible. My goal is to print a white stag on a green T-shirt. Do I need to convert the stroke object to something else, then apply a fill? I don't know how to proceed.

I'm having trouble changing a black and white map to filling it with a color. In the materials palette the foreground and background remain in the greys/blacks and will not accept the change to a color.

My image is in grayscale though it's recognised as RGB. It contains structures in white which I would like to fill with a colour. So basically, I'd like for all the white in the image to show up as e.g. red.
How do I do that? I'm guessing it must be possible to have a red layer and somehow this will then fill the white, but I'm getting confused with background and foreground filling options and I don't know which transparency options I have to choose.

I'm migrating from web to graphics, and I have no idea
if I can save as/export documents in PHOTOSHOP making
the white background saved as transparency, as you do
with GIFs in Fireworks. This is VERY important to me as
I must make dozens of objects with transparent backgrounds
and many photos I get they have all that white background.

i have an image which is a large scanned hand-drawn housing layout, simply black pen outlines on a white background.
is there a way i can automatically turn the whole white background into transparent? i know how to use background eraser, but it would take me about a week to manually go round the whole image picking out the white bits.

i used the "magic wand" tool to take out the white backgrounds behind a few polaroid images i'm using on my friend's website and there seems to still be a white line still. it's very thin and almost unnoticeable, but you can see it as you scroll through. check out his site and go to the "life" section and you'll see what i mean on the polaroids as you scroll.
my possible reasons behind this are:
1) somehow the "drop shadow" effect creates the white line?
2) in my code i used borders and on the polaroids i set it to no border, and somehow this make there still be a white box around it?

How can I set transparency like when color is brighter it will be more transparent, eg. white is fully transparent, black is non-transparent, gray is 50% transparent, etc..
I would save png after that.

Why do transparent objects look different on white background vs no background like the image below?
If I flatten the transparency both sides of the gradient object looks like it's on a white background.
If I print it there's no difference.

Designer Pro 6: I've made round cornered pix for a catalog. I export as a PNG and the corners show black in the Web app I'm using, but they are transparent so it's OK. The last set of pix were done in Xara Xtreme 5, when I exported those as PNGs the corners were white, and the transparency was OK. My question is why the white or black corners, and is there something I can do that will control that? I used the same approach in Designer as in Xtreme 5.

I have an ink drawing intended for part of a comic book that I scanned in black and white (no grey) and I am just trying to replace the white areas with transparency so that I can come in with other layers and add color to the image...I am just wondering how I would go about doing this...

I am getting white lines around anything with a drop shadow or outer glow after flattening the transparency in Illustrator CS6. The only thing I have found that remedies this is to rasterize all objects with effects. Is there another way with out having to rasterize the transparencies?

I have been getting an immense number to images lately that have that wonderful white background.
I simply use the masking tools and cut/paste back into Draw to get a transparent background, but it is time consuming.
Any way to do this with Replace Colors?

For quite some time I've been trying to find the best way to remove a white background from images. I've checked out the sticky thread on this forum and as my image isn't of great quality and because it features quite a lot of white that won't apply.
Recently I found this tutorial which is supposed to work great (as seen in the comments). However, I think that because of a GIMP update that won't apply anymore somehow. I was hoping you guys might know what was causing it.
Everything works well until I get to step 7, where I have to select to Alpha. There it selects just the outlines, but my selection includes inner parts of the image, not just the background. And then after I invert and delete, the white that remains still has transparent parts that show up on the upper layer. So, am I doing something wrong with the Alpha to Selection, is that tutorial updated or is there a better way to remove the background from ie. a logo with just one background colour which isn't of great quality.

I created logo with a gradient object. The gradient is with a single color and transparency.
I can not export the logo, ( Ai, eps or pdf) in InDesign and keep the transparency of the gradient. Transparency becomes white. For the pdf, not only I do not have the transparency of the gradient, but I also have a block of white around my logo.

I have a file set up that has a white box with a 65% transparency lens. When I go to print, the white box and what's under it disappear and do not print. If I close the document and reopen it, the transparent box and what under it are back.
What do I need to do so this doesn't happen?

I have two pictures.
I would like the two pictures to blend in the middle from left to right.
The picture on the left will be sharpe on the left side but fade/transparent by the time it reaches the middle.
The picture on the right will be sharpe on the right side but fade/transparent in the middle.
I would think I need a gradient transparency (you always have to use a color)
I see pictures like this all the time, but can not seem to find the correct feature or combinations of features.

I need to have a border of about two inches around my painting in the same color as the background of the painting. In the past, I've cloned the color out to my desired dimensions,
I want to open a new window in photoshop of the dimensions I need.... fill it in with the color of the background of the painting, move the painting into this new window, flatten it and print it out.
How do I fill the new blank document with the correct or close color?

This is a basic question as I am a novice with both Illustrator and Photoshop. I have a vector shape of an apple in Illustrator. It is 2 piece- the body and the stem. I would like to fill this shape with a part of a photograph.
I'm wondering if I should do this in Illustrator or should move it over to Photoshop as a selection and then do it there? I'm also going to bevel the edges of the shape.
The next question is how to do it, which tool should I be using in either program? Is this considered a "fill" operation or am I cutting this shape out of the photo?

I created a pattern of concrete block coursing that I want to apply to a picture of the side of a building. The pattern is clipped so that it will repeat appropriately when filled into a large area. The problem is that depending on where I fill in the canvas, the pattern never fills in with the same start point. I want it to always start at the bottom left corner of the pattern (which is the bottom left corner of a block). Is there a way to set the point that a pattern moves out from? Also, does the pattern radiate from its center point or one of the corners?
In Autocad there is a snapbase command that lets you choose the start point for a pattern. This is exactly what I'm looking for in photoshop.

I am working in Photoshop CS4...have been for years. All of a sudden, when I try to fill a closed path with a color, it fills the entire art board with color, except not inside the path. I have not selected "inverse" or anything....and it has never done this before....I can't figure out why it has started doing this, and I can't get it to stop. Most of the paths in my file, I have made in Illustrator and then pasted into Photoshop...they work normally....it is just the ones I actually draw in Photoshop that are doing this....one thing I have noticed is that in the paths palette, the paths I pasted in from Illustrator have a grey background.....while the paths I actually drew in Photoshop have a white background.
